Dakota Edinburgh emerges as a modern retreat with a stylish ambiance, drawing praise for its immaculately clean and comfortable rooms adorned with cozy decor. While the hotel's staff consistently impresses with their professionalism and attentiveness, some guests have voiced concerns regarding value for money, pointing to overpriced services.
The high-quality dining experience stands out, although the dark-themed decor and lighting receive mixed reviews. Despite its debated location, some lauding its convenience and others deeming it too remote, the Dakota maintains its reputation for top-notch cleanliness and service.

Detailed Reviews
Beautiful hotel with a real attention to detail. We decided to spend a few nights here after our foreign holiday was cancelled due to Covid.
We both felt very safe as there is lots of space in the hotel with plenty of hand sanitizer stations, dining arrangements were well thought out and all the tables had plenty of room between tables .The staff are trying so hard to make it as enjoyable a stay as possible despite restrictions.
The hotel is in a fantastic location for exploring, we spent a day in North Berwick enjoying a lovely sunny walk along the beach. We also spent some time in South Queensferry in a lovely restaurant overlooking the Firth and watching the boats coming back and forth.
Great high end hotel in a fabulous location serving delicious food.

Just back from a great 3 day stay , we had a dinner bed and breakfast deal so we ate at the hotel every night which was probably ideal as the hotels in Queensferry so if you don’t eat there it’s a taxi into town which isn’t too far so that’s no big deal, having said that the food is faultless one of the best steaks I’ve ever had but of course what’s good food without good wine ? Well that’s ok because there’s a good if somewhat small wine list with some superb wines on it not to mention the cocktails.
We had a “classic room “ which was spotlessly clean well soundproofed but to be honest it was a bit small as was the bed when we stay again (no doubt about it we will) we will definitely get a bigger room if not a swanky suite.
Of course what’s a great hotel without great service? Well this is no doubt where the Dakota Edinburgh excels and it’s a real credit to the management who appear to value their staff as it was one of the best run hotels I’ve stayed at with every member of staff attentive and good at their job , all in all a great stay and I can’t wait to return , plus if you download the loyalty app you might even get a free stay after a few stays .

Stayed with my husband for a DBB stay in a junior suite.
I emailed ahead and Pre-booked dinner a week earlier due to it being a Saturday evening and knowing it would be very busy.
Due to Covid you are sent links prior to arrival to check in/pay and complete track and trace, when you arrive it’s a quick process at the desk of simply collecting your key.
Staff at reception are very polite, professional and swift.
We were in a junior suite on the 5th floor, beautiful. Big bed and a complementary mini bar in the fridge with drinks, mixers, sweets and crisps. There’s also an nespresso machine in the room, as well as a selection of teas and a kettle.
Rainfall shower is absolutely brilliant and there are all the usual toiletries available (I especially liked the Bvlgari shower gel, lovely touch!)
One thing I would say is that when we arrived we only had around half a loo roll and no spare but I’m sure had we required it we could have asked for it!
Prior to the meal we went for our complementary drink and nibbles that are included with the suite. This was in Meeting Room 2 due to Social Distancing rules and the reception/bar areas being busy, still very comfortable and sofas available to sit on.
One thing however we found was that the service for drinks was extremely slow.
We were shown to our seats in the Meeting Room at 7:45, a menu of drinks given and an order taken.
Nibbles arrived at 7:55 which we had to eat then as they were hot, still no drinks.
Drinks did not appear until 20:25 and we only received an update that the bar had a long queue of cocktails to make when my husband chased this up at 20:15.
The waitress who updated us was extremely apologetic and offered to ensure we were updated when our table for our meal was ready for us to save us having to stand and wait in the restaurant with drinks.
I do appreciate that a long list of cocktails for various tables will take a while, however perhaps we could have been updated on this without us having to enquire and also perhaps the nibbles would have been better brought with the drinks. As it was we were finished the nibbles with no drinks to have alongside it.
The meal in the restaurant was absolutely brilliant, seafood curry was absolutely amazing and I was surprised how full of various seafood it was!
Husband had the steak with peppercorn sauce, he asked for med-rare as he always does. It was slightly rather than he’d normally go for but enjoyed it all the same!
After the meal we were stuffed but after seeing the menu I couldn’t pass on dessert. We shared a chocolate pudding with salted caramel ice cream that was absolutely out of this world.
Breakfast was again great, full breakfast with tea/coffee and toast. There’s also continental options and various granolas, yoghurts etc on the menu.
All in all a lovely night at Dakota and we will definitely be returning!

Room was dark and not very warm although the bed was comfy. Key cards didn't work very well and had to get them reset twice Coffee and milk portions were a bit stingy as well though no doubt we could have asked and received more so won't hold that against them. We went for a drink in the evening but left after one when we spotted several different people who weren't together happily rearranging seating so they could all sit together and staff just ignored this. Hand sanitisers in good supply though the ones in lifts were empty in the morning. Breakfast was a disappointment the food was good quality but lukewarm and the coffee was extremely weak and tasteless. No one done a table check and when we booked out we weren't asked if we had enjoyed our stay

Dear Rab H, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with some feedback from your stay at Dakota Edinburgh. I am disheartened to read that you rated your stay to be disappointing and only worth 2 stars. We endeavor to create a relaxing ambiance for our guests and pay particular attention to the level of lighting used throughout the hotel. Regrettably this was not to your taste. Our team are continuing to go the extra mile to ensure all safety and hygiene measures are met. Any unused extras in your room such as tea and coffee are disposed of after every departure, thus being the reason you may have felt the portions "were a bit stingy" however our team are always on hand in delivery any additional amenities to your room if requested. We are following all the government guidelines in place, which currently state that a maximum of 8 people from 3 different households can gather which was the case for the guests in question on Saturday evening. Once again, I am sorry to read that you had a disappointing stay, however I do hope that we can have the pleasure to welcome you back to Dakota to experience a more enjoyable stay. Should you wish to return, please do contact the reservations team directly on reservations@edb.dakotahotels.co.uk Warm Regards, Guest Relations

I have stayed at many hotels however this was my first visit to this hotel and in fact any of the Dakota hotels.
The hotel has a great warm and welcoming feel to it.
The room was beautiful in decor and laid out beautifully my only downfall to the room If being picky was the bed Sheet that wasn’t tucked in and just dropped over the bed again though not a big deal.
Ordered the indulgence package for the room which unfortunately had not been done for us arriving however upon speaking with one of the receptionists (didn’t catch name) came up with a fast solution and the problem was erected without any hassle.
All staff were very friendly and also had a laugh with one of the waiters which is nice since a lot of these higher end hotels have staff acting like robots.
Covid-19 measures brilliant hand sanitizers in lifts and throughout the lobby along with every table in the restaurant I was informed not to use it as mustard with my dinner thankfully.
All in all 10/10 will be back and recommend to all.

This Hotel is one I have been putting on my wish list of places to stay. Needless to say we were not disappointed,it is a luxury experience from the first step into the hotel lobby, the grill and dining area. We stayed in the executive suite and was very very happy the bed was so big and soft. The little touches of lovely shea soap, lovely shower gels, large fluffy towels, slippers, gowns and toiletries finishes off the experience in the wet room.
There was a coffee machine to make our own fresh coffee.
The food was very yummy, fresh and well presented. My husband is a fussy eater, but he did not have any comments about it.
We will definitely be back to THE DAKOTA HOTEL.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and did not want to leave.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my partner. Staff were friendly and helpful. Decor is very modern but dark. The rooms have minimal lighting even with dimmers on full so I struggled to see my wardrobe area properly and had to use the bathroom for my makeup. I think if I was working on my laptop here I would struggle. The bed is big and comfortable although I could feel the mattress protector through the sheet and it woke me up a few times as was quite rough but I have fibromyalgia and am over sensitive to sensation so this might not bother others. Lovely bedding otherwise. Great shower, turn clockwise for the waterfall head or counterclockwise for the detachable shower head. There was also a grab rail in the shower which I appreciated as falls are common for me. Big fluffy towels and the toiletries smell amazing. Food wise we paid extra for breakfast to be included, whilst the food was ok, I feel the price point didn't reflect, my partner thought a tesco cafe breakfast would have been similar for a fraction of the price. I enjoyed the haggis and the eggs were good quality but my black pudding was burnt around the edges and the bacon was rubbery. Toast was lovely with selection of marmalade and jam. Tea or coffee and selection of juices. Otherwise a good experience. Nice selection of drinks at the bar and enjoyed our stay overall.

Dear minniela1, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed your recent two night stay here at Dakota Edinburgh. It's lovely to learn that you found our team to be friendly and helpful throughout your stay, and that you felt our luxury bedding, fluffy towels, and bespoke toiletries were a highlight of the room itself. I am however saddened that you felt our breakfast offering was not good value for money and that you did not enjoy your bacon or black pudding. I'm sorry for the disappointment this has caused and will of course pass your comments along to our Head Chef. I do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly on guestrelations@edb.dakotahotels.co.uk to make your next reservation. Kindest regards, Guest Relations

Stayed at this hotel for the first time and I am really impressed.
The initial welcome from the front desk is very warm and welcoming and this continues should you need anything from any of the staff.
The executive room I stayed in had a wide screen tv with Sky Sports! and all the usual amenities ( except for a hairdryer!!!)
I was really impressed at the hand written welcome note left in my room prior to check in as well as the small box of chocolates left on the bed.
The hotel has a very smart yet cosy feel to it and I would definitely stay again.

I always wanted to stay at this hotel having passed it on numerous occasions over the years. It did not disappoint.
Booked for 2 nights and enjoyed it so much stayed for another!
The property is well set up for Covid with hand sanitizers readily available throughout the hotel.
The food in the restaurant is excellent and the chef was very accommodating for my vegan diet. They made a vegan soup for me and even got vegan sausages for my breakfast!
Thanks to the chef and staff in the restaurant for going out of their way to help.
All in all this is a fantastic hotel with great staff. I will be making a return trip as soon as possible!

My husband and I stayed here for the first time on Friday night for my 40th birthday. It will certainly not be the last time we visit it was absolutely fantastic! From the moment you step in the door you feel like you're entering something special. The lighting is dark and it gives off a cosy vibe.
We had booked a Junior Suite as a treat and it didn't disappoint. We had a stocked mini bar in the room and when we went to the restaurant we were given a complimentary glass of fizz and haggis bonbons whilst waiting on our meal.
We were then given the most delicious complimentary goats cheese in a tomato sauce with bread. This was out of this world in flavour and a really nice touch. We both ordered steaks for our main course and it was one of the nicest steaks I've ever eaten. 10/10 for the meal 👌
We went back up to our room after our meal and chilled out for the rest of our stay. We were child free and had the most relaxing time. The bed was so comfy I can't even describe it. I didn't want to go home in the morning I was loving my comfy social bubble. However the real world was coming and we checked out and went home.
The hotel had extremely high standards and we felt COVID safe at all times.
I would highly recommend this hotel and we will most definitely be returning.
We had booked a Junior Suite as a treat and it didn't disappoint. We had a stocked mini bar in the room and when we went to the restaurant we were given a complimentary glass of fizz and haggis bonbons whilst waiting on our meal.

Why isn't the breakfast option available in Expedia ?
You can park to the side of the hotel on the main road. We didn’t pay and we left our car for 3 days. It was fine. No permits. Our taxi from hotel to airport was £25 .
I was in the executive suite, but viewed most rooms, decor & internals are mostly of the same high standard and except for maybe the few extra mirrors & walk-in wardrobe I would say the size is the most significant factor. In other words, unless like me (wedding ) plenty of space is not a priority, the standard room will be just as nice. Hope that helps.
