The NY Times wrote up this place as a "must see"... obviously whoever wrote the article did not do a "stay". We did and won't be back. It's a good think we enjoy an adventure! The only good thing I can say is that the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was close to inedible -- the fruit had seen better days...

We spent a night at Jailer's Inn in Bardstown, KY. Very cool B&B with a history of having been an old county jail. There have been many reported ghost sightings although we did not have that experience. The Inn is well located, clean, comfortable and was very quiet on a Sunday nt. The breakfast was fabulous.

The B&B was formerly a jail. It's a little quirky, but that was makes is great. Paul, the owner, is the perfect inn keeper. He friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the building and the history of Bardstown. The location is great. You can park in front of the building on the street or use a parking behind...

This quaint B&B is located in the heart of horses & bourbon. Paul, the owner, helped with suggestions for Derby & restaurants Breakfasts were above average and delicious. Clean, comfortable room. Outside areas provide a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast, read a book, or have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Within walking distance to pubs, restaurants...

Location is great. Paul, the owner, is very cordial. However, the property and furnishings are being neglected. All the furnishings are extremely tired - in fact - so dirty I did not want to sit. The courtyard where breakfast is generally served, is also in great need of attention. I planned this trip for 3 couples (that we do business...

My husband and I stayed in the Garden Suite. Very nice room. Very clean. Most comfortable bed I slept in on our week long vacation. Staff was very polite and accommodating. Breakfast was served on the covered patio and was delicious. The tour of the old jail was very informative. We highly recommend this Inn.

My wife and I stayed a night in the jail cell and had access to the entire cell block and we were very pleased. The room is quaint and comfortable--with a waterbed--and the cell area is very atmospheric. The innkeeper is very hospitable and knowledgeable. She is on call at all times and also prepares a very good breakfast, as...

Had been trying to book the jail cell room for a while, and found out that it is not rented in the winter months as it is unheated. We reserved the Victorian room. We showed up pretty late, but called ahead and the woman was still there to check us in. We had the run of the place and the...

We spent one night at the Inn while on The Bourbon Trail. We felt very welcomed, but not smothered. We couldn't stay for breakfast the next morning due to our schedule, but the night's sleep was great and due to the THICK limestone prison walls, it was VERY quiet in the Victorian room. If you go, ask for tour of...

Could have been a good place if the innkeeper and owner cared and fixed the place up. Our room was on the main floor and smelled like smoke even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room. The bed was terrible and needs to be replaced. Not much sleep. Sore back. The nasty old spa tub had a shower...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Iron bars on windows, 30 inch thick limestone walls, and a heavy steel door slamming behind you may not sound like the typical tourist accommodation. However, Jailer's Inn is anything but typical. The historic Jailer's Inn, circa 1819, in the center of Bardstown, Kentucky offers a unique and luxurious way to "do time." Jailer's Inn is a place of wonderful, thought provoking contrasts. Each of our seven guest rooms are beautifully decorated with antiques and heirlooms, and offer private bathrooms, some with a double Jacuzzi. All located in the renovated front jail, built in 1819. The back jail, built in 1874, is basically unchanged; you get a chilling, sobering look at former conditions in the old Nelson County jail used in full operation up until 1987. Catch a glimpse of life seldom seen in these two historic jails listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. On spring and summer mornings, as you sip hot coffee and chat with other guests over a full breakfast in the courtyard, it's difficult to imagine all of the previous uses of the courtyard, a place to visit forlorn relatives or even the centralized location of the Nelson County gallows. Come "do time" in jail and unlock an adventure in history. Whether you sleep in the elegant Victorian Room, rest and read in the Library Room or enjoy the peaceful setting of the Garden Room, it will be a "captivating experience." ... more   less
