We were pleasantly surprised by the Inn and our room. The location is ideal. The check-in process is inefficient but the staff are friendly and want to be helpful. The rooms (we were in the "new" part) were large, modern (enough) and clean. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast is included in your reservation. It's not a selection: you get what the cook cooks. Our offering was scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, sausage , and biscuits. The portions were fine for us but were pretty slim: a teaspoon (literally) of scrambled eggs, two slices of fried potato, one piece of sausage, and one biscuit. There was self-serve cereal. Adding small yogurts and/or fresh whole fruit would be a nice touch for modern travelers. The sole waitress said she was just called in and the cook pitched in on service. The cook was asked to make an all-white scrambled egg and to his credit he did. Both were friendly but obviously frazzled (most overnight guests get there at the same time). It feels more like visiting your aunt and uncle at the farm than being at a restaurant in the morning: sort of "pitch in, help yourself, huh?" Maybe, if choices aren't an option, set up a buffet and reduce the hassle for staff and expectations of guests. There is some room for ongoing improvement. The Old Talbott Inn should be a little gold mine due to its history and location. Investments (time and financial) will be needed. If your business model is to run short-staffed, staff must be well-trained, well-paid, appreciated, equipped with appropriate technology, and have a lot of enthusiasm and pride in their work. Specific protocols and measures to follow so their work is streamlined and nothing is missed are necessary as are processes to avoid guest irritants (regularly check TVs and change remote batteries, set clocks accurately to local time, explain checkout system, explain that there are very limited free parking spots, etc.). It's a really good place now and it could be great again. We'll stay there again.

We stayed one night there. Room was wonderful, BUT noisey. Breakfast was basically non existent. Maintaining man had to fix the breakfast because no one else showed up. So we felt sorry for him. But food was not good. Cold and lack of flavor. And our tv NBER worked.

Nobody at front desk in the mornings. Ice must be requested through someone, usually nobody around as desk closes at 8pm. Door locks are keyed with deadbolt. However, you have to lock it each time as the doors won't stay shut even if stepping to the hallway. Pictures of rooms not true of room amenities. On a business level, Bardstown is booming, 3 new motels being built and more coming. If Talbot owners don't get their act together the cheaper, more comfortable spots will close them down. They are going to need to spend some money and change schedules, without charging the clients more. 'Quaint and cute place' only goes so far. Probably won't stay here a third time. C19 has nothing to do with the deficiencies mentioned, they are simply lack of maintenance and staffing, and were there before the C19 problem.

We appreciate you taking the time to leave us feedback, Ron. We are currently renovating a space so our guests at the Talbott Tavern have 24 hour access to an ice machine. We apologize that renovation was not ready during your stay. We are also looking into a lock system as well. Your detailed feedback and suggestions are much appreciated as they will make a more enjoyable stay for future guests. Thanks again.

You do not go to this hotel for the food, tourist busses dropping people off should be your first hint, but for the location. Sure there are better hotels, more comfortable beds, but walking distance to bars, restaurants, bakery and easy commute to the distilleries. It has a nice selection of whiskey in the bar but, outside of the location, it is sort of a tourist trap. The rooms are nice and large but the closets in our rooms were armoires with no hangers. But, we enjoyed it and would recommend it for the location.

Pleasantly Surprised We booked an overnight stay at the Annex section. It was a double bed suite with a jacuzzi tub, walk in shower, mini refrigerator and microwave. Room was spacious, clean and beds comfortable. Check in was quick and staff friendly. Room included a full breakfast but we could not resist going to Hadorn Bakery for donuts instead
