Namaste Lodge is good. I can recommend

I was trekking solo. Owner Tenzing was excellent & made big effort to be friendly & allow me enjoy the stay, which I did. His staff were working flat out to serve food, drinks, sort out the endless issues of guests etc

Solo trekkers, groups, guides & porters all there, mixing in

I had mild altitude sickness & Tenzing showed me into the clinic (located in same building) for a check-over (was impressed how thorough this was, at minimal cost)

Main dining room was kept well-heated with 2 stoves, with good social scene

I just came back from Gokyo and am really glad to see that Namaste Inn is on Tripadvisor! Now there is a new wing to Namaste Inn, called the Fitzroy Inn. My husband and I stayed there for 3 days and it seems that all the expensive groups have their lodging there as well as people who are prepared to pay more than the 2 dollars or so/night of Namaste Inn (low season). I cannnot rave enough about the place. It was THE highlight of the entire trip (apart from the views, of course). The people there, a family of three, parents and son Tenzin, are out to make everything possible for you - and that means EVERYTHING. I was so amazed. One day we walked off to Lake 5, a tough walk, because snow and ice made the path invisible and not easily walkable. Pasang, the mother at Fitzroy Inn, had somehow realized that we went without packed lunch and sent her son, Tenzin, on his way to find us - and he did. Tenzin had brought a thermos flask of hot garlic soup and toasted chesse sandwiches. And as a special extra, I was sent a tablespoon full of fresh chillies (they knew how much I loved my chillies). How about this for service?!!!! When we came back into the lodge, Pasang had fired up the stove for us and prepared hot water in a bowl, so that we could soak out feet in it. What a treat. All that was followed by our first 'meaty' meal of the entire trek - a Yak Stroganoff. Fantastic.
Our room was extremely comfortable. The beds have a normal Western thick and comfy mattrass (cannot get that anywhere else!). With those and hot water bottles in our sleeping bags we slept like babies. Cannot imagine how these mattrasses were carried up to Gokyo.... We also had an attached bathroom. The shower and sink are not yet installed, but the piping is already there (this wing of the lodge is brand new). The toilet is a regular Western style toilet and this too was heavenly.... If you trek up there and have to run to the loo in the middle of the night - outside your bedroom - you know what I mean by 'heavenly! So, anyway, I cannot rave enough about the place. Please say hi from Richard and Romana if you go there - wonder if they remember us? We loved it there and would recommend it to everyone.
My only complaint could be about a guest.... One night Tenzin helped a chinese couple down from Renjo-la. HE saw their headlamp in the night and went to help - and they needed it. They got given a hot orange tea and hot water to soak their hands and feet. These people looked really worn out and the girl was suffering from excruciating headaches. We gave her Diamox and panadol. She then lay down on the bench near the stove while her husband started negotiating a room rate. He started shouting at Tenzin with hard to ignore words of abuse - we could not believe our ears. Just rescued and now they want lodging for absolutely free!!! They wanted to pay nothing. This broke my heart. To see Tenzin give in in the end - just so that the Chinese would stop the abuse - and give them a room for 2 dollars was made me livid. Please, if you go there and want to stay there, consider how everything here gets carried up by people! The food, the furniture - EVERYTHING. Pasang and Tenzin and the father are such nice people - don't treat them like rubbish. They deserve every bit of respect you would want to be shown to yourself. And if you don't like it, go elsewhere (without screaming at anybody). You will love your stay there!

We were stranded in Gokyo for 2-3 days during a heavy blizzard, and as such, spent a significant amount of time in the relative comfort of the Namaste tea room, playing cards next to the stove..! What made Namaste special was their commitment to keeping the stove running all day, at a reasonable cost to themselves, which I'm told is common practice at this guesthouse, yet something that doesn't occur at other guesthouses in Gokyo. Furthermore, the head man Tashi Sherpa made our stay most enjoyable, he was very helpful and pleasant, and speaks proficient English. The kitchen staff are helper boys and girls, the food was standard fare, and the rooms are basic yet comfortable, although after you've made your own way to Gokyo, you will surely excuse the simple provisions :)

The worst experience in my many trips to Nepal.
The owner tenzing only thinks about money not clients.
Avoid this lodge.

Booked three rooms, but after crossing the long Cho La pass and the glacier, and arriving at 6pm, tenzing said there are no rooms available, because we had to arrive before 4pm. He tried to manage the situation and find new rooms for almost 2 hours and I got a bit angry for the long waiting and incompetence, as my group was very tired and also sick. He said there are two rooms available at a different lodge, but before going there, made me say "sorry for being angry" and beg for the rooms or "sleep on the street", in front of my group, which is completely unacceptable. The "new" rooms were small, old and dirty at an old lodge, completely different from the booked ones.
The next day he also avoided me in Gokyo and didn't come to talk about the situation or say sorry.

Hope this review changes someones mind about staying at Gokyo Namaste Lodge.

If a people always becomes money minded, then people do not believe on him/her. Likewise, I found money minded concept in Gokyo Namaste Lodge. Of course, people work for money but money is not everything. They give good service but I did not find friendly.

The lodge is quite nice and the food is ok. But the Nepali guides and porters where not provided with proper blankets over night and were not allowd to sleep in the dining room, where at least would have been a stove. In mid November in 4800m height I find this unacceptable.

We stayed in Gokyo Namaste lodge for 3 nights during our trekking in October - it is definitely one of the most amazing time I had during the whole trip! The staff is so friendly, helpful, always smiling and kind that I don't know how to express my gratitude for everything they've done to make our stay so magical :) the common area is very cosy and comfortable, great place to relax after an exhausting trekking day, read a book or talk with people - we met some cool trekkers there as well, had some rice beer together and when the owners saw we were enjoying the evening (despite quite late hour :) they offered us some chips and sherpa rum! (We were approaching the end of our 3-week hiking experience so it was a great occasion to celebrate :D)
One of the most amazing days of my life so far, would love to definitely go back there if ever I'm in Everest region again! <3

Warm stove in the morning and afternoon makes this place extra special. If you've trekked in Khumbo you know how rare this is! The Lodge managers are outgoing, especially Tenzing, and will do whatever you need to have a comfortable stay.

I had been this Gokyo Valley sever times since many year. Every time I would like to stay in Gokyo Namsate Ledge. The owner and staff are very cheerful and frankly. The use all fresh food, green vegetable and quality ware. They have warm dining with warm washing water and clean toilet. They kept extra blanket in room. They served us hot tea with breakfast even early mooring when we want to climb Gokyo Ri for sunrise view. This is best hotel we found in Khumbu region.

Both are possible but I suppose having a guide makes life a bit easier/comfortable.
