The Spaulding Inn is so conveniently located. It is preserved in a pristine form and decorated with great attention to detail. However, the steps at the entry way are not very convenient for older individuals or those with disabilities. The home made bread was a dense and a little tough. I also found it wanting in the warmth and hospitality...

A recent trip to Grinnell for a family member's funeral, brought us to this charming B & B. From the time we made the booking, and until the morning of our departure, the owner ( Valerie) made our stay welcoming & comfortable. She fixed delicious breakfast each morning, and filled us in on the history of Spaulding Inn and Grinnell....

If visiting Downtown Grinnell or Grinnell College, very much worth the little bit extra cost to stay in such a nice place and to have a much more authentic experience than staying in a chain motel out by the interstate.

Booked at the last minute for a stop between Northern Iowa and Chicago. I called about 8:30 pm the night before; Valerie booked us for a night quickly and efficiently, and left instructions for us to settle ourselves upon our arrival the next evening about 9:30 pm. Breakfast was prepared and we chatted with Valerie the next morning, heard very...

Valerie and Rick are gracious hosts--we enjoyed casual conversation over breakfast since we were the only guests. They offered a garage to store our cycles overnight, a very nice gesture. Beautiful home...very enjoyable stay!

Warm, gracious, welcoming, beautifully decorated but not over the top as often happens at a BnB. Spaulding Inn was delightful. I chose this Inn because I have many allergies and I really appreciated the comfortable, organic bedding; attention to sustainability practices; farm-fresh, creative and accommodating breakfast to dietary restrictions; super clean rooms and bathroom. I was in a corner room...

I have stayed here a couple of times now and love it. When I visit my daughter at Grinnell, she wants to get out of her dorm and sleep in one of the cozy rooms too. The price of rooms is extremely reasonable. The breakfasts are lovely and Valerie is a wonderful host!

We had a great Easter Weekend at the Spaulding. It was very quiet there so we had breakfast in the privacy of the little room for two people just off the main dinning area. It was a very intimate setting we enjoyed very much. If you want to get to know what the heart of America is really like get...

My daughter and I stayed here during a visit to Grinnell College. We stayed in the Oak Burr room which has a private bath. The room was very spacious with a comfy bed, beautiful handmade quilt, sofa, walk in closet, TV and spacious shower with organic bath/shampoo products. The inn is very comfortable with many areas for reading, relaxing or...

Waiting for my college student, I delightfully spent a January morning in an overstuffed comfy chair, wrapped in two home-knitted throws reading country life magazines. Prior to this, breakfast started with good coffee & heart-healthy hot cereal with fresh bread & home-made raspberry jam. Beautiful well crafted home, but sometimes hard to appreciate. (One suggestion: let the architecture breath. Think...
