Kaariku Leisure and Sports Center has been Estonia's most popular sporting and resting places through the years. Front Staff told me nothing about the Hotel. She was busy speaking with her friend and while completing the guest check in form she impatiently wanted to give me the key so I would stop interrupting her chat with her friend. Later, I asked what food was available - absolutely nothing and I already had a beer so I could not drive 10K to another hotel with a restaurant. In the morning, I had breakfast which was free but lacked vegetarian options and was OK but nothing special. I asked the Hotel staff what time the skiing is available "about 10 o'clock". So I waited, only to be told by the skiing staff no skiing was available as everything was taken by a massive group of school kids. The hotel lacks communication which is probably a cause of absent ownership, management and direction. Staff seem disinterested in their jobs. What a waste of time.

The surroundings are very beautiful and perfect for outdoor activities in summer or winter. The lake is a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Different walking routes, tennis and ball courts. Also saunas by the lake. Rooms are basic but include all what needed. Not the best soundproofness but in general no partying at the hotel. Good strong wifi, tv. Breakfast is nice and include boiled eggs, porridge, fruits, yoghurt, breads and cheese, ham. Good option in the area, surroundings are worth the stop.

The place is excellent. My room was little, but clean and cosy and had all the necessary amenities. The place is situated in Southern Estonia where the nature is very clean and beautiful. There are skiing tracks in the forest and sauna near the lake. The staff was very nice and helpful.

Kääriku hotel is my absolute favourite: the best kind of architecture from 1960's, the history of the place: it used to be the resort and also sport center for University of Tartu during Soviet era. I've visited this hotel many times in the past. It has two saunas built right next to the lake and also in-house sauna in the sports building (unisex!). They offer cheaper prices for off-seasons like autumn and spring. The canteen house (the hall) is also a superb example of architecture just like the rest, especially the interior where there are many original details (wall of the hall, floor of the ground floor, some doors). Do note that there is an exhibition (history and photos) present in the ground floor in that building: in the corridor that leads to different workshop rooms. There is also a stadium right next to the lake, and recently renewed tennis squares, and probably much more than that. Last time I slept in a ground floor corner room and rain or something made noise there that wasn't helpful for someone with fragile sleep. Also, the view of my last room was right to the common walking area so I had to cover the windows for privacy; but most rooms are not like that.
