Mavrokordatiko is a small hotel in the heart of Kambos, Chios. The place is an old agricultural mansion built in the early 1700s by the Genovese. The hotel was bought by Dora and Alp recently and went through a renovation. We met both of them. They are very friendly and helpful. This is not a luxury hotel, The primary attracion...

We had a wonderful visit. We were the only guests. The hotel is on an old agricultural property and it is currently operational as a farm. The host was very gracious and met all of our requests. He provided a computer and called to get us a rental car. He spent time with us and told us about the island....

Excellent place and location. Ther rooms are with high ceiling, very spacious. The owner/manager Dimitry is very friendly and helpful. He even collected us from a nearby location due to difficuly in finding the place. Breakfast could be a little better. The garden is great and very comfortable for the afternoons and evenings. One looks for a drink indeed.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in a 15,000-m² picturesque & quiet area, full of citrus trees, mulberry trees, fig trees, pomegranate, plum, olive, oleander trees and fields full of organic grown vegetables; Mavrokordatiko is a beautiful Genovese mansion, offering accommodation in a historical villa with free Wi-Fi and all the modern comfort. It is located in Kampos area of Chios Island. It is only 7 km away from the city & harbor. Staying at a real 18th century mansion built in 1736 by the Genuvese, is a unique and exciting experience that everyone would enjoy thoroughly. The environment will thrill your imagination and all your senses. The unique pastel-colored pink stone of the beautiful Chios Island is used for the construction of this incredible villa. These villas are called in Chios “Archontiko” . The citrus fruits of Chios have such a special flavor and taste that once you try them, you will definitely never forget them. At old times they were famous abroad and Chios came to wealth by exporting them to Odessa. The origin of the name "MAVROKORDATOS" goes to two great and influential Byzantine families. Mavrous and the Gordatous, which then became Mavrogordatos and eventually Mavrokordatos. The family members settled in Chios around 1570, when they developed commercial ties with the Genovese. The reason why they settled here in Kampos area, is that this whole area reminded them the Florence. Indeed this area is the Florence of Greece. This beautiful and honorable environment full of history brings the scent and memories of the past to you. One will definitely find peace of mind, harmony, tranquility and balance in this kind of environment. It is an ideal environment for alternative tourism and YOGA practices. It was the way the very rich lived at past times. We recommend you to get a taste of such an 18th century life style! The Family members were important ambassadors, translators, traders in Sultans Sarai during the Ottoman Period. Kambos actually means field. Such unique villas can only be found only in this area of Chios, which is under protection and is in the list of World heritage. There are a lot more to be written about this world heritage but the best is,everyone has to make his/her own experience. Only in a warm summer night under thousands of stars in the clear sky, in this quiet atmosphere, with the smell of jasmine flowers ; one would realize why so many philosophers came from this part of our beautiful planet. The air-conditioned lovely rooms, with comfortable beds and an apartment with 2 rooms at Mavrokordatiko Traditional House are warmly decorated. They come with an LCD TV, a mini fridge and a hairdryer. The rooms are between 15—30 square meters. The Apartment is 55 square meters. Guests can relax at the traditional pebble stone mosaic covered terrace or at our big terraces upstairs of Mavrokordatiko featuring chairs and tables. Breakfast can be enjoyed daily from 9:30 till 11:00 at extra charge if declared 24 Hours in advance. Free on-site parking is also available. Within 2.5 km, guests will find a super market, shops and taverns. Karfas Beach is only 1,8 km away, while Chios Town with all its taverns, music and the night life is 7 km away. We would love welcome you to YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME in CHIOS! ... more   less
