We stayed two nights in this amazing hotel/garden/vineyard. It was perfect in every way from the food , the staff, the garden tour (a must) to the wine-tasting. I even rode a bicycle around the estate!

We have visited this beautiful wine farm various times. First two week of September it is time for the thousands of clivias to bloom and have not missed it for the last 3 years. The gardens are magnificent and pristine condition. The lunches served under the threes or in the glass house are really good value for money. Home made...

I think I'm easy going, but am a little fussy about Spa's. They are expensive so I expect the best. Not just the treatments. Theirr Spa is sublime. The layout and design is like no other. It is tranquil, stylish, unique The products they use the best, the staff friendly and professional. I'm going back....

Service excellent. Unfortunately the prices of the food to eat are a bit expensive. You should visit the Garden restaurant from 11:30, because their are many visitors on a sunny day. Free fruits are available, be on the look out for it.

Unfortunately the reviews here are a high percentage of day figures which give a distorted view of this place as a hotel destination. The rooms are very overpriced and were the most expensive of our trip and the most disappointing. The actual architecture is great, but they have no views, only a wall to the vineyard and on the other...

While the location and decor were beautiful, I found the food to be seriously lacking. When we got into the dining area, hungry, placed on the table were loaves of delicious bread with three coloured dressings after about 30 Min the most colourful salads arrived, very chunky a garden selection, more like platers of whole fruit and veg, no dressings...

Visited this beautiful farm for lunch. The setting, service and creative menu was amazing. The food spectacular. To top all that the two stores were a shoppers delight and the Babel recipe book a cooks dream!

I didn't stay at the hotel - but visited the property for lunch. Unbelievable experience: superb location and a highly imaginative lunch. We spent the morning wondering around the fields and gardens in near perfect conditions in a location that was truly memorable. After a short visit to the farm shops (well worth a visit) we sat down to a...

Dear Andy Housed in the old cow shed, Babel Restaurant is a wonderful mix of Cape Dutch architecture and contemporary glass walls that makes for a simple yet edgy environment in which to try our tasty yet often unconventional combinations. We have a farm-to-fork philosophy which means we like to serve food that is seasonal and that reflects our “pick,...

We were taken to Babylonstoren for a brief visit, wine tasting and a snack lunch, only to discover that it has so much to offer and deserves at least two days visit in its own right! Next time it will be upwards on our list of places to stay and visit.

There aren't really words to describe how much We enjoyed our meal at Babylonstoren. The setting is exquisite, so calm and relaxing and food is out of this world. Nothing was too much trouble and I'm not sure much will match up to this. Definitely worth being organised and booking well in advance (a couple of months in high season)...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just 60 kms from Cape Town in the Groot Drakenstein Valley, Babylonstoren - named after the small hill on the farm named by early Dutch settlers in honor of the Bible's Hanging Gardens of Babylon - dates to 1692. The 8-acre formal French kitchen garden at Babylonstoren, inspired by Cape Town's famous 17th-century Company Gardens of the Dutch East India Company, is the central focus of the farm. Today, cultivation of the freshest fruit, herbs and vegetables is paramount and the menu at the farm's restaurant, Babel, is driven by the seasons and what nature dictates. With over 300 fruits, vegetables and herbs to choose from, there is always be something fresh and surprising. Overlooking the vineyards and garden with the historic farm buildings forming a backdrop, Babylonstoren's 13 guest cottages echo Cape Dutch farm buildings. This style was developed in the Cape Colony in the 17th and 18th centuries: the outer walls are whitewashed and decorated with ornate gables and the interiors are pleasantly cool in summer (due to thick walls) and are heated by open hearths in winter. In these cottages we see 18th century-style exteriors boldly yet seamlessly married to the 21st century. Hotel guests are encouraged to pick fruit and veggies from the garden, explore the farm on bicycle, join our daily garden tour, enjoy our signature hammam treatment in the garden spa, or simply unwind with a glass of wine in the hotel's green room. The abundant harvest table breakfast is served from 8h00 - 10h00 in the garden's beautiful greenhouse. Guests can also enjoy dinner on the farm, either in Babel restaurant four nights a week, or in the farm bakery (Sun, Mo & Wed). ... more   less
