Had a nicer stay here than the 3 stars might suggest, but because this property needs some love I can't really rank it higher. Plainly furnished, not spic and span; germophobes maybe wouldn't warm up to this place, but for me the positives far outweighed the dirty carpet; I just kept my socks on.
I like to patronize independents, and this one, with its friendly staff, made to order omelette breakfast, a great location overlooking the river and bridge and quick hop to Peoria's suprisingly cool riverfront and warehouse district - comfortable bed and good workspace in the room, gets my thumbs up.
Well my room was okay, but phone failed to work and clock and radio. Some updates are needed . The front desk was good and breakfast good. It is interesting how rooms are given. I wonder if anyone checks the rooms . I came from out of state and it us close to the downtown events.
The first floor looks charming, my room did not. There was popcorn under the table and by the side of the bed. The carpeting had more stains than I could count. The carpeting was also rumbled and not well installed. It’s not a place I’d book again.
I booked a room at the Mark Twain Hotel for one night as a half-way point between Omaha and Columbus. I wanted to treat myself to something more than a chain and this looked like just the place! Getting to the hotel was easy and free parking was a bonus! I was greeted warmly by the receptionist at check in and she offered suggestions for what to order from the hotel's restaurant. My room was comfortable and equipped with everything I could need for the night. I chose a room with the brick wall because I love that style so it was both modern and rustic. I loved the Bath and Body Works products. The bed was comfy and my room was quiet. Check out was a breeze and the free made to order omelet breakfast was fantastic. I will definitely stay here again. Oh and the lobby!!! Worth visiting just to experience it!
Let me say first, that the hotel is a “boutique” style older hotel and the upgrades are lovely. The breakfast was outstanding! Omelets were made fresh, and they had everything you would expect for breakfast. The dining room was gorgeous. The breakfast service staff was on top of things asking if we needed anything at all. I tipped them big time......now for the disappointing part. My mother and I had planned a riverboat trip with the Spirit of Peoria (awesome btw) and this hotel weekend for 6 months. We were assured that the shuttle service would take us the several blocks across the street and pick us up. I confirmed this several times, as my mom walks with a cane and is 91. They were having problems with their phones so she gave me a cell number. At 10pm, I called ALL the phones on their website as well as the cell number and couldn’t get through. Everyone had disembarked and we were alone in the parking lot. We decided to start walking while I kept calling. So, two women walking slowly, downtown Peoria, alone at 10pm, is a mugging or worse, waiting to happen. The gals at the desk were like- “I’m sorry”. We will never stay at this hotel again. I plan all logistics carefully concerning my elderly mother. The driver knew we needed a ride back and was probably waiting for the call that never came through. My mom barely made it back. I’m done ranting now
