The restaurant certainly isn't for the impoverished, but the fish dish was very enjoyable. The staff were very attentive and engaging despite my being a solo customer on a busy night. Dogs are evidently welcome in this establishment, which considerably enhances the homely atmosphere. The meal wasn't cheap, but when I made intimations of proffering a tip, the staff graciously...

Driving back from New Wine, Somerset to home in Bournemouth we came through Tollard Royal. We needed lunch so were pleased to find the King John Inn. We sat outside so that our dogs could be with us and had two delicious starters and a good pud as well. The food was of a very high standard and all freshly...

Stayed here for the first time, for 1 night only en route to stay in the Isle of Purbeck. We loved the village, both its King John history and its current natural, pastoral beauty. Our room was in the main building and was very comfortable and well equipped. Service throughout our brief stay was friendly and professional, with Oscar standing...

Over priced wine list, poor food, poor service, a 10 per cent service charge added to the bill which is a bit of a cheek and the place only had a few people there so that tells you something, we will not return

A beautiful well appointed room, a very comfortable stay whilst attending a nearby wedding at Larmer Tree Gardens.A hearty and tasty breakfast in the morning. All staff very welcoming. Could have done with a drink on our return from the wedding but no bar, or room service. A mini bar would certainly help on such occasions. Otherwise 10/10!! What is...

We stayed here the one night en route to Devon. We were given a room in a seperate building just a few yards across from the pub entrance. The room was a very generous size with nice furniture and furnishings. The bathroom was large and had some lovely Bramley bath products which was a nice surprise. There was also tea...

Wonderful meal yet again, great ambiance. Definitely a pub well worth a visit to! Nice and friendly staff who seem very hard working, a clean & well managed pub. Food and wine is exceptionally good here, prices aren't cheap but absolutely worth every penny!

Stayed here for one night as attending a wedding nearby. Booking and finding it was easy. The barman very kindly gave us a lift to the wedding venue as we'd not arranged a taxi properly! The room was nice, old fashioned bit very cosy with good selection of coffees and teas, and some biscuits. Bed was very comfy. Area quiet....

Stayed here as we were attending a wedding nearby, and a very charming little B&B it is too. The room we had was a good size, and had a nice bathroom with a large bath and good shower. Terrific selection of good-quality teas & coffees in the room, and a nice touch with some shortbread. Curtains were a little thin...

PROS: As others have noted, staff here are very good. Room was small but otherwise OK. CONS: Not a vast choice on the dinner menu. If staying for more than a couple of nights you'd soon run out of dishes that appealed to you. However for me (and I appreciate that this is a matter of personal preferences) the main...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated in the scenic village of Tollard Royal in rural Wiltshire, The King John Inn is a Victorian and award-wining country inn offering beautiful accommodation, delicious food and a warm, friendly service. Our eight en-suite bedrooms combine modern comfort with rustic elegance and feature luxurious linen, Nespresso machines, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, direct dial phones and luxurious toiletries. Our Head Chef is an accomplished fisherman, bakes his own bread, makes his own cheese and still finds time to get up early and catch local game when in season so you can expect that every plate on the King John menu is as fresh as it can be and is expertly crafted with a passion for the local countryside. We are proud to have recently received 1 Rosette from the AA. In summer, our terraced garden is the perfect place to dine alfresco while watching the chefs in action in their Victorian-inspired outdoor kitchen. In winter, relax near our roaring-log fires in our open plan pub or in the informal restaurant. The bar provides an ever-changing selection of imported drafts and local beers as well as an extensive wine list. Salisbury and its cathedral are only a 30 minute drive away whilst the beautiful hillside town of Shaftesbury is only 20 minutes. The King John Inn also sits within a 5-minute walk of the historic Rushmore Park, an area of lawn and open woodland home to the Rushmore Golf Club. ... more   less
