I arrived to join a hen party afternoon. Lovely looking hotel from outside, where there was a wedding going on and met by pipers and drummers. Inside it looks all new and we headed to join our party where we were having a prosecco afternoon tea. Cocktails were ordered (mine was non alcoholic as driving) - took wee while to...

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. drinks are a little expensive but it's a nice setting so we could cope with that. service in the past hasn't been great and a few times I've left feeling a bit annoyed that noone really attended to our table. it was a bit different this time and service seemed to be improving slightly.

Stayed overnight after attending a function. The rooms were lovely, very clean and well decorated. The hotel is very nice all round and the staff were all very friendly. At the function we attended, the meal was good and service was also good on the night for a full hall of people. We also used the bar after the function...

Excellent hotel, friendly staff and good food. The evening menu is especially good. Large range of whiskies too! We had booked a room for three adults, but as the receptionist judged that the extra bed may not be good enough, a second room was found at no charge. If you're ever in that part of the world it is heartily...

We drove over for a man early dinner having looked at the menu online. Dined here before and enjoyed it but not tonight. On arrival young waiter walked by us and left us standing in the restaurant. Eventually seated and menus provided/ drinks ordered. A few other diners around and the dining area is nice albeit quite dark. One prawn...

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent dining experience with us. Please accept our apologies on the young waiter not stopping to offer assistance when you arrived in the restaurant. We do normally have a host that would seat you and the only explanation for this could be he was leaving the dedicated person on...

Our group of 7 were put into the Dumfries Arms as the sister hotel had a problem but they honoured the deal which was excellent! Nice bottle of red in each room, dinner was delicious and great service considering there was a wedding on at the same time and the cocktails were lovely. Highlights were the lovely bathrooms and bedrooms...

Dear Ann, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit. I am glad to hear your think the food is first class. In regards to the price of alcohol we feel this priced very reasonable bearing in mind we are a four star hotel bar. We do understand we are slight more expensive than perhaps a public...

Stayed for one night with my husband and was very impressed. Initially we had booked a standard room however we upgraded to the honeymoon suite which was well worth it. Our evening meal/breakfast were both delicious. Staff were all extremely helpful and pleasant. Beautiful hotel throughout. Would happily recommend this hotel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fully renovated in 2011 the Dumfries Arms is a contemporary, stylish boutique Hotel with 26 stunning guest rooms, stylish restaurant and function facilities that ensure its place as one of Ayrshire's largest and most stunning wedding and events venues. Rich in history, The Dumfries Arms Hotel has stood at the heart of the ancient burgh of Cumnock, Ayrshire since the early 18th century and even predates nearby Dumfries House, saved for the nation by HRH The Prince of Wales and now one of the nation's most stunning heritage attractions. Over its 300 year history the hotel's guests have included some colourful and well known characters including our national bard, Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott, who made reference to his stay in Old Cumnock..."Where beds are as hard as a plank, sir". Much has changed since! However, as an important part of our heritage, due homage has been accorded with these historic words being embroidered on soft furnishings within our guest rooms. We should add that our beds are magnificently comfortable! We look forward to welcoming you to one of Scotland's newest, privately owned boutique hotels whether as a resident, diner, or to view our stunning function facilities if you are planning a very special event. A warm welcome is guaranteed. ... more   less
