You need to set your expectations... It is rustic, a bit quirky and one of the funnest stays you will have. Not for those expecting a high end B&B...but a laid back experience with great hosts and food. Enjoy!

We just spent five days as our third visit to the Olde Squat Inn, and it was the best experience yet. It might have been the cooler weather in Southern Illinois that is just beginning to bring out the color on the trees. Or it might have been the early Fall mornings bringing the fog and mist that glowed over...

We 4 sisters really enjoyed our stay in the Oxford Trot. Welcomed by Katy when we first arrived with a box full of fresh picked tomatoes and peppers, our hosts,Katy and Jim could not have been more accommodating. Breakfasts were delicious and the grounds are so beautiful and peaceful. We didn't want to leave!

I have stayed here many times with my two large breed dogs and I could not ask for more. The owners are wonderful and have several lab mixes of their own. Our dogs enjoyed off leash freedom to roam and a great swim in the lake. The owners themselves are amazing host. They allowed us to pick dinner from the...

My sister and I stay at cabins alot and have never had this experience. Pictures are not deceiving, but the cabin we were in was dangerous to say the least. Electrical wiring exposed, not safe for children. Leak under kitchen sink. Bathroom was very dirty and shower had old spoiled rag still in it when we arrived. We did expect...

I visited the Olde Squat Inn for a mother-daughter weekend getaway. We stayed in the lovely church cabin. The quiet, peaceful seclusion was exactly what we needed. We enjoyed sitting by the fire and simply spending time together. Jim even brought us a puzzle to work on. We also enjoyed the quick drive over to Marion to do a little...

The Old Squat Inn offers beautiful hand-crafted log cabin rentals in scenic Southern Illinois. Our cabin intertwined modern conveniences with a vintage touch. Surrounded by logs dating from the 1850's, we couldn't help but speculate as to what these walls had seen. The elegant simplicity created the perfect environment for our getaway. The fun, friendly, and flexible owners make this...

My husband and I have stayed at over 20 cabins around the country. Most are modern and beautifully decorated with rustic accessories that are easily found at many modern gift shops. The Old Squat Inn, however, is a collection of true 1800s cabins, decorated with authentic, antique goodies, inside and out, that take you back to a simpler time. We...

We (a german family) were staying 6 days in "Uncle Jims" Old Squat Inn and we love it. Our children come back to the ground. After some days they are really happy children. The cabins are wonderfull and the breakfast is unbelievable. So much things and homemade. Applecake, muffins, pancake, eggsoufle, potatoes with ham and and and ... Katy make...

We were eager to see and stay in log cabins that date back to the 1850's. The Old Squat Inn did not disappoint. Our innkeeper is a collector of old cabins which he reconstructs on his property and situates around his lake. It is a real throwback to days gone by--the rugged individual who learns to do for himself whatever...

“It's good to be aware that a part of the experience of being at The Olde Squat Inn is that it is out and away from the busy-ness of 'normal' civilization. But, this also means that cell phone service can be problematic, which also means internet is the same. With AT&T service, we occasionally could get one bar to show but minimal access, and only email and an occasional IM. It's a great excuse to run to town once in a while to hit the wireless at Starbucks at the local Kroger store, or Barnes & Noble in nearby Carbondale.”
