Last spring, my husband and I made an appointment to view these cabins, hoping to reserve the one we felt would best suit our family, coming in from out of state. Upon our arrival, an angry man stormed toward our vehicle. He stated he was the owner and he was sick and tired of people thinking his place isn't good...

My husband and I were really blessed by our stay here. BUT: This is not for everyone. You must be open to the cabin lifestyle, not the Hilton. This place is rustic and cozy. We enjoyed the fireplace and the porch and the pond the most. Also, Katy and Jim were very kind hosts and Katy fixes amazing country breakfasts....

If you don't like solitude, peace and quiet, nature and history then this is not for you. Jim and Kati have done an amazing job keeping history alive here. The cabins are a testimony of skills of our ancestors and of Jim's as well. This has become our go to place to unwind and relax. We go here spring and...

Loved the cabins! Loved the area and the friendly couple who own it Jim and Katy! Katy makes a great breakfast, I dislike eggs and don't normally eat eggs, Katy's I did like a lot--breakfast potatoes were outstanding-everything very good- Cabins were clean, nice and just what we wanted- Close to stores etc.. But far enough away from the world....

We came up to Southern IL to see my Grandmother for her 90th birthday and the normal Cabins we stay in were booked so I found this and it sounded interesting. The idea of restoring these 1800's Cabins sounded really cool. Jim started a really cool project, but I just wish he had fully completed the plan. This place could...

I loved the rustic weekend in Gabe's cabin in March. The cabin was clean and comfortable and it was a perfect place to unplug. Jim and Katy were kind and helpful and the breakfast was obviously made with love! I am planning my next visit back with my boyfriend and friends.

A BIG thanks to Jim & Katy! My husband planned a night away from our 3 sons this past weekend with reservations at the Olde Squat Inn B & B. It couldn't have been more perfect! Jim meet us at the Lake Cabin with a wagon full of kindling for our wood stove. He sat with us telling us all...

First off, we left because we could not bear another night in the bug and mice poop infested cabin. We realize that accommodations were not going to be five-star, however, we expected a pleasant experience and were compelled to leave for these reasons: 1. Kitchen - I brought food to cook on Friday evening. You claim the cabins are fully...

We had the joy of being invited to visit the Olde Squat Inn. This place was perfect. Perfect setting, our cabin was awesome and the owners so personable and welcoming. The food was incredible and the whole experience was a weekend we won't forget.

This was either our 4th or 5th stay at the Olde Squat Inn. A few years ago I posted a more detailed review, I will merely add to it here. If you are looking to escape 21st century life and stress, stay here. If you are looking for the Ritz Carlton or the St. Regis type accommodations, go somewhere else....

“It's good to be aware that a part of the experience of being at The Olde Squat Inn is that it is out and away from the busy-ness of 'normal' civilization. But, this also means that cell phone service can be problematic, which also means internet is the same. With AT&T service, we occasionally could get one bar to show but minimal access, and only email and an occasional IM. It's a great excuse to run to town once in a while to hit the wireless at Starbucks at the local Kroger store, or Barnes & Noble in nearby Carbondale.”
