I wish we had discovered Matafonua ten years ago. We have been to multiple destinations on all the Pacific Islands but this place tops them all. Perfect holiday destination run by great people. All the other comments say it all so no need to add anything else to advertise it's "perfectness". I just hope {selfishly} it doesn't get too popular...

Matafonao sits right on a beautiful beach on the northern tip of Foa Island. Because of its location, you can easily watch the sunrise and the sunset and spend the rest of the day snorkeling (equipment is free to use), swimming, kayaking (also free) or just hanging out. Besides the location, there are two other reasons that you will want...

My husband and I spent 5 days here in September 2016. We swam with the whales twice and went diving twice. Swimming with the whales was amazing. The crews on both trips were wonderful and knew right where to go to find them. The baby and mother we found the first day wanted to play with us. When we were...

Heaven. Loved every minute of my stay. The food served up is delicious. Make sure you are there on the Saturday night when they serve up the fresh lobster caught by the locals.....the most delicious thing I've ever had. The lagoon protected by coral is fantastic for snorkelling and I spent hours finding new creatures. The resorts facilities were lovely....

What a wonderful experience this place was!!!! Originally we arranged to be at Matafonua for only 3 days - just enough to bracket a kayaking/camping trip we had planned. When our kayaking trip (with a different company) went sour, we reappeared at Matafonua and were welcomed back with open arms and big smiles even though we were not expected and...

When we chose Matafonua we mainly did so based on the many excellent reviews here. Our experience is definitely less positive. We found the accommodation uncomfortable, not particularly clean and infested with mosquitoes and insects. We often felt the resort (in particular the dining area) was an extension of the owner's living room. This created an atmosphere where it's difficult...

Thanks very much for your review. We are sorry your stay with us did not live up to your expectations. Usually we do not respond to reviews but felt that on this occasion it was important as you omitted some key factors. It rained for you entire stay here. Additionally while usually we are on the breezy side of the...

My partner and I had very romantic 5 magical days at Matafonua Lodge. The snorkelling, kayaking, golden beaches were all excellent and safe. The warm hospitality shown by Nina and Darren are second to no other place in the pacific. The friendly 'United Nations' guests from all over the world, also made our 5 days extra special and the wonderful...

My family and I spent a magical week at Matafonua Lodge. Darren and Nina made us feel so welcome and a part of their family. Our two boys got on really well with their kids, and JJ was especially kind to our boys, taking them fishing and playing with them. Hopefully their friendship continues for years to come. The location...

This place was amazing!! We had beautiful Fale's that were a stones throw from the waters edge, pristine beaches for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and exploring. Darren and Nina (plus the kids) were fantastic hosts- the food was delicious beyond words with a great atmosphere and deck to soak up the serenity. I cannot recommend this place enough! We are already...
