Wonderful stay, came about as the result of a highly unpleasant experience at another hotel in the chain (Rowton) and I was invited to stay at Hatherley by way of putting things right. My friend and I had a lovely stay with staff taking the time to ensure our stay was a good experience- food and drink were excellent and the room was fantastic! Spa was one of the nicest I’ve been to and would have no hesitation in a return visit. Would absolutely recommend anyone to stay at Hatherley Manor.

We stayed here at the end of September as a treat for our anniversary. We had the post lockdown deal which includes spa access, a glass of processco and cream tea. We also upgraded to the executive plus room. The grounds and building are beautiful but the hotel only has 3 tables outside for you to enjoy the view which is a real shame. The hotel is really dated inside and needs a lot of TLC and updating. There are old sofas and dated artificial flowers awkwardly put in hallways as if they didn’t have anywhere else to put them for example. It is extremely dusty, dirty and unloved in the hallways with enormous cobwebs and paint chips. The hotel is being updated but again there seems no plan of completing one area and moving to the next, it’s all extremely haphazard. When we checked into our room there was a pile of laundry and rubbish outside our room. Not the best first impression as housekeeping should be finished by that point in the day and definitely should not be leaving waste outside new guests rooms. Our room was extremely disappointing to say the least. There was patched up holes on the wall with poly filler but not painted over, stains on the carpet, a disgusting amount of dust on the light fittings (to the point you could write dust me!), no real cups for hot drinks only paper cups and a terrible bathroom. The bathroom was extremely outdated and had not been updated with the room which makes the Room incomplete. The bathroom was extremely small, the bath is so small I couldn’t fully fit in it and couldn’t put my legs down (I’m 5’6). There was black mould in between the tiles and mismatching taps. The shower over the bath was very weak and there was very little room to stand as the bath is so narrow. There was a cheap shower curtain instead of a screen. Not the relaxing space you expect in a nice hotel, especially one that you’d like to come back and use after a day at the spa. The bathroom looks like something you’d expect in a cheap B and B. The room decoration was nice and was in keeping with the photos on their website but they failed to mention that the bathroom is TINY and not updated. Given the price of the room it was extremely disappointing. To put it into context as comparison we’ve recently gone on holiday to butlins for our little girl and the hotel room that we stayed in and the bathroom were far far nicer. It’s really saying something when a Butlins hotel is nicer than a 4* spa hotel. We had a cream tea as part of our deal and again this was a very disappointing experience. The cream tea was 1 scone each and a pot of tea/coffee. It came with a bowl of clotted cream and a bowl of jam, both just slopped on. The jam was cheap jam that had was a massive scoop. Slopped in a bowl. Having small pots of individual jams would of been far better and small pots of cream. Presentation was very much lacking. The glass of Prosecco we had included was not offered to us and instead we had to chase this up at the bar in the evening. A better touch would of been to have a small bottle of Prosecco on ice in the room with some strawberries. In the morning at breakfast the fire alarm went off. All the guests are looking around at each other as if what is going on and only when guests started saying shall we evacuate did a member of staff say it was a test alarm that they did every Monday at 9am. I’m not sure I’d be thrilled if I was still in bed and got woken up by that. The staff did not give any prior warning of the fire alarm which is poor. They could of easily given guests a polite warning that it was about to take place. The breakfast itself was nice and had a fair amount of choice. The spa was the only redeeming part of the hotel to be honest. It was beautiful inside and a very calming serene space. We enjoyed a couple of pink gins in the courtyard and it was very relaxing. The pool and spa facilities are also beautiful and it was a very calming enjoyable time. Staff were very friendly and helpful too. Overall the hotel and attention to detail was poor. We felt very disappointed and that the hotel was Nothing like the website. It definitely does not deserve the price that they charge.

It was fantastic to see that the hotel was selling locally sourced products. The Gloucester beer is a very palatable drink. (Please make it available in the Spa). There is a herb garden on the grounds that the chef can be seen visiting. All adds to the lovely country feel of the hotel. Keep up the good work.

We booked this break in July and were really looking forward to some much needed relaxation. The spa deal meant we could check in at 1pm and we had booked our 2hr spa access for 3pm. We arrived at the hotel at 2:30pm only to be told our room wasnt ready and they had no idea when it would be. Meanwhile guests checking in for the wedding were ushered straight through with no problems. We were given 2 different excuses why the rooms were not ready by the unfriendly duty manager and when I explained we had the spa booked for 3pm she then told to take our suitcases down to the spa and get changed there. When I explained this was unacceptable and the other guests were checking in easily she magically found us a room. On speaking to other spa guests they had the same experience with the duty manager and didnt get their room until 4pm. Spa was lovely, all staff (except duty manager) were friendly, rooms dated but clean, dinner was ok and breakfast, I wish I hadnt bothered. Wasnt the best sleep, children from wedding party running around, screaming and banging doors until midnight. Wouldnt stay again and wouldnt recommend.
