We stayed at the Congress Plaza Hotel when in Chicago for the Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary shows at Soldier Field. It was perfect for our needs. Because it was cheap and based on other reviews, we knew it wasn't going to be fancy, but it was still clean, the staff was friendly, and it was a perfect Chicago location easily...

No where else downtown will you find such a great location at this price. Room was older and showed it's age well, but it was clean. If your looking for modern you won't get that here. While everywhere else close downtown was charging $550+ for 1 night during 4th of July, this place was charging half that. Keep in mind...

Rooms are extremely dark, humid and old. Mine didn't even have a window ( it had one but it was locked since the room face a wall...that's right: it faced a wall!). Not even a tiny bathroom window and the smell of humidity and disinfectant was overwhelming! Also service can be described as "the bare minimum ". Used to be...

There's some good and meaningful bad here. We had a reservation with an early check-in ($40), but no rooms were available when we showed up at 11 a.m.--it was a busy holiday weekend with the Grateful Dead concert in town...fully booked. So they removed the charge, we stowed our luggage in their room, and we came back at 3 p.m....

This fabulous place has history and character to it and we got a great Groupon discount on the Lakeview King room and our view was looking at the Navy Pier Ferris wheel, Buckingham Fountain and beautiful Lake Michigan from the 12th floor which was exceptionally quiet and clean and plenty large for us!! Please check Groupon rates and you will...

I can't say enough about this hotel. It's location cannot be beat. To the north skyscrapers and downtown loop; to the east Buckingham Fountain and Lake Michigan; to the south 3 major museums; to the west all elevated trains. Fantastic! Our room was large, comfortable, and clean. Its view was amazing. This hotel has culture and history which make it...

This historic hotel is very well located. The interior of the public areas is varies from ornate and interesting to fairly bland and and functional. The room itself was large, basic and generally worked well with a couple of quirks that made it less functional than might (bathroom light inaccessible when the bathroom door was open). This said for the...

perfectly good. great location. get a lake view, north tower or whatever. true, it's dated, but it's comfy and my room is huge. if you can afford the 4 seasons, go. if you want something a bit more homey, congress is fine. staff is exceptional. my room has new carpet, plenty of hot water quickly in the bathroom, which is...

Decent older hotel. The rooms with a view of the lake and fountain are the best choice if you plan to stay here. Close to the cool sculptures in Millennium Park as well. The halls in the north tower are extremely narrow, so the best option is the south tower. Hotel parking is right next door.

I was worried after reading some of the online reviews of the Congress Plaza, but I must say I was very pleasantly surprised. The place has lots of 19th century charm, an excellent location, and a very affordable price. While there were some (in my opinion minor) examples of cosmetic wear-and-tear, such as cracked bathroom tile and chipped woodwork paint,...
