Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The main floor of the hotel is beautiful. It does give the sense of a busy ballroom, fancy restaurant, multi-purpuse, watch-don't-get-lost but beautiful. The rooms at the top floor where underwhelming. Not a bit of the grandiosity from the bottom floor reached the top. I have stayed in several hotels in Chicago, several areas, and by word-of-mouth I thought this would be my top experience. Howeverer, I will say that knowing that I was in a place with so much history did make me feel a little different, cozy, and the brownies did not hurt a bit.

Great hotel, perfect stay in a clean, convenient and comfortable historic hotel. Perfect location for walking to tourist attractions. Safe inside and out, great professional knowledgeable and friendly staff. Absolutely nothing negative to say!! Spacious rooms, comfy beds, great air conditioning with easy to control panel, and absolutely spotlessly clean! Shout out to Vanessa, LaShawn, and Courtney! And absolutely superb advice from maybe the best concierge in the city?? Deborah Sawyer was so helpful in helping make our girls getaway perfect! Will definitely return and stay and the Palmer House!

This hotel is terrible. Rooms are dated, carpet is dirty. Rooms smells. Staff is rude. Please avoid like the plague. The rooms are worst than a motel. I don't recommend this place under any circumstances. Pictures on booking website is not even close to the room they gave, when I requested a room like the one I booked they refused.

There were many errors in service at this location. Room change issues, poor communication, laundry/dry cleaning service errors. As a Diamond member I have an expectation of outstanding service especially since I have worked at hotel front desk in the past, I understand what they ensure. Even with this the front office director, Vanessa Rivera resolved all of my issues with all her resources. The service recovery that she provided was extraordinary. My colleagues and I frequent Chicago for business and because of Vanessa we will return. Kudos to you ma’am! Thank you.

The hotel building is one of the most beautiful spaces in the city. The history is incredible and you can't help but feel you've been transported into the 1920s when you sit in the lounge. We had an upgraded room on the 19th floor. The space was a good size and had beautiful city views from the multiple windows. I appreciated the large closet and additional seating. The bed was comfortable and bathroom was clean. The service was good although we waited more than 20 minutes at check-in.

The ambience and history of the Palmer house is great and very unique. We stayed on the 16th floor in a double with double baths (nice touch) the room itself was great with additional space. When it came time to sleep you could hear other people in there rooms and a tv in the next room over. You can also hear the train! Needless to say not a very good night sleep! I would suggest management try to do something with the sound piece to get better reviews and repeat clients.

We’re here for 3 nights. We often stay in historic hotels so we’re familiar with the quirks of grand old buildings. But our room is just odd. Why are there 3 mini fridges in it? Why don’t both sides of the bed have end tables and lamps instead of one giant side table with a corroded light? Why don’t all the outlets work? Why doesn’t the bedside clock light up at night? Why were we charged extra for a king bed but we have the tiniest bathroom I’ve ever seen in a hotel? Btw, the bath has plenty of chipped paint and tile and we had to call maintenance for a toilet that doesn’t flush properly. I think next time we’ll pay more attention to ratings. NOT a 4 star hotel!

It was odd to have velvet ropes for the 30+ minute winding line of people at check in, but they had a priority line for digital checkin so I was able ti dodge that luckily. I also thought it was odd that my room wasn’t ready when I arrived at 6pm. Then the oddity turned to real frustration, at 6am when I woke up and realized there was no in-room coffee, and room service won’t take the online order for another 30 minutes and then it’s a 45 minute wait, and the walk from my room to the lobby is 20 minutes round trip (yes it’s that big and poorly designed)….but front desk advised me they don’t have coffee out in the lobby either. There’s also a Starbucks here…but they’re closed. Have you ever been to a hotel that hadn’t thoughtfully planned multiple ways for guests to get coffee? This one planned multiple ways to keep me from it. I visit Chicago for work often. Last time at this hotel.

2 night stop as part of 28 day vacation in USA. Been visiting US for over 30 years and 3rd trip to Chicago, this is the worst hotel we have stopped at in Chicago and probably one of worst ever. Looks good and it’s got the history but staff very poor, ask a question, say good morning you will get a grunt. Room, corridors public areas cold. No coffee machine in rooms, water in sinks and shower tepid at best. Had breakfast both mornings, 1st morning poor, not very hot and fruit tasted as though not washed, strange metallic taste, toast good. 2nd day worse, think it was same fruit from day before, unwashed, and past it’s best. Eggs burnt on bottom and raw on top. Pancakes hard on outside probably reheated, not fresh. The only good thing I could say about this hotel was that Ashante who checked us in was professional, friendly and a credit to the Hilton organisation.

Dear jeffsI9263AJ, While we're pleased to hear that Ashante provided the excellent service we aim for at check-in, it is unfortunate that not everything about your stay was perfect. We sincerely apologize for any response from our staff that did not meet your expectations and that our breakfast selection wasn't to your preference. While we do not provide in-room coffee-makers at this time, Lockwood Express is off the lobby, and we recommend trying a delicious Lavazza coffee from them! Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and we hope for another chance to impress you in the future. Sincerely, Nate Hennig Hotel Manager
