Certificate of Excellence
Thala Beach Nature Reserve is a family owned 58 hectare nature and wildlife reserve 15 minutes south of Port Douglas. Get there from Cairns via a spectacular 45 minute drive along Captain Cook Highway. Elevated on stilts, 83 eco designed timber bungalows are discretely concealed within the forest canopy, blending in with the natural environment and feature ocean, mountain or forest views. Panoramic views are enjoyed from open-sided Osprey's Restaurant across the forest canopy and beyond to the Coral Sea. Guests and visitors dine amongst birds in the surrounding treetops, whilst enjoying modern Australian cuisine with friendly and attentive service. Granite boulders, waterfalls and overhanging trees create natural swimming pools blending discretely within the environment. Paths wind through rainforests and woodlands, connecting with secluded coves and beaches, passing through habitats for endemic birds, wildlife and flora. Guests enjoy complimentary guided nature tours by onsite rangers including tree planting, stargazing at an outdoor observatory, beach discovery, wildlife walks and bird-watching tours. A completely organic 650 tree coconut plantation is home to a unique coconut odyssey tour highlighting the extraordinary qualities of the 'tree of life'.

We loved everything about Thala except how short our stay was! The staff at the front desk were so warm and welcoming. Everyone is so helpful and really make a point of helping you relax while you’re there. The views are beautiful, the beaches, the rainforest, it’s all so magical

We stayed two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. On arrival we were greeted with a cool drink and a warm welcome. It’s quite a steep walk to most of the bungalows (buggy rides available on request) but worth the effort. Gorgeous wooden floors, wonderfully comfortable

Wondrous to fall asleep amidst the sounds of nature. Staff were very helpful, special thanks to Johan who drove us to PD downtown when our Uber failed to show up. Coconut plantation tour and Stargazing are unforgettable highlights, as well as the resident wild animal pets. Superb

I have two questions. 1. Is it possible to enjoy sea swimming in November at your private beach? 2.Is it easy to find programs to explore the Great Barrier Reef(eg. snorkeling, scuva diving...)once I arrive at your place or do I personally need to find them before visiting Port Douglas? Thank you
Hi Kyung thanks for your questions. We have a tour desk and very knowledgeable staff who will be able to advise the best Great Barrier Reef tours to suit your interests and budget. We'd be happy to help! Marine stingers are generally present across northern Australian waters from Nov to May. Stinger suits may provide some protection, though swimming is always at your own risk. We have two swimming pools as an alternative to ocean swimming. The qld.gov.au website has more information

I live at Trinity Beach and am wondering if there was a possibility of using the resort facilities. I would be interested in doing the guided kayaking and also getting a picnic hamper prepared to enjoy on the beach and maybe use the pool? But not sure if this option is only available to guest staying at the property?
You're welcome to use all the facilities at Thala if staying overnight as a guest. We welcome day visitors to dine for lunch or dinner at Osprey's Restaurant.

if we fly into the Cairns airport, what is the most inexpensive way to get to your resort?
Hiring a car is a good way to enjoy the area around Port Douglas, or you could catch an airport shuttle bus to Thala (both options should be pre-booked before arrival).

Hey! How long does it take to walk to the beach?
Hi Adrocked, as others have said, Thala is located on the beachfront and it's just a few mins walk to either Oak Beach or Pebbly Beach via the trails that meander throuugh the property. Some rooms are located closer to the beach, others are located closer to the Main Lodge

Hi! What would the weather be like between Christmas-NY? Would it be difficult arriving on Christmas Day, leaving NY day?
The weather between Xmas and New Year is usually hot and humid, as Thala beach is in the tropics. You would need to check with the resort about arriving on Xmas Day and leaving NY Day, they are both public holidays in Australia, but I don't imaging it would be a problem, as a lot of Aussies have holidays at this time.
