#1 of 2 hotels in Great Harbour Cay
'Carriearl' is a place to retreat from the world, to find the kind of tranquility no one can buy and to stay in a Hotel that's instantly your home. If you are looking for a culinary surprise in the Bahamas, this is the place to find it! You will experience the almost mystical energy that you can only find in the Out Islands of the Bahamas. The impossibly clear waters and endless beach are only for those who have, by some serendipity, discovered this little piece of Paradise. A 20 minute flight from Nassau and just over an hours flight from Florida, it is a perfect destination for the traveler who is looking for somewhere to chill and relax. There are four well-designed bedrooms, a beautiful fresh water pool, a terrific Restaurant and Bar (one with a great Rum selection) and a short stroll to one of the Island's stunning, deserted beaches. Angie and Marty are your hosts and with their wonderful staff have made Carriearl the epicenter of the Island, and Dronzi's Driftwood Bar is always full of travelers and locals, and Sunday Brunch with Marty our Chef Patron - a social requirement!

To the Barefoot Chef, Thank you for the most incredible trips & memories. Fishing trips, lover’s beach, Petit Cay..... this place is paradise. Bone fishing, uninhabited islands, so much to do! Running 10k to the cove, cruise ship views, Coco cay, Nassau. Always dreaming of coming back....

Wow, thank you so much for such a glowing review ... our dream has been that Carriearl is somewhere you have to visit if you come to the Berry Islands 🌴Great Harbour Cay has a lot to offer, but still remains a hidden piece of Paradise .. deserted beaches, turquoise blue ocean and lots of sunshine ☀️ We would love to make your dream come true, so come and visit us again soon. Cheers for now Marty ‘The Barefoot Chef’ and Angie

Martin & Angie are superb hosts, who accommodate your every need from marina pickups to laundry service. Stuart’s blackened conch is a unique appetizer which we requested night after night. The cuisine is fresh and unique and Stuart is happy to cook your fresh fish with tasty spices and roasted veggies. As King George sang in Hamilton: “you’ll be back....”

All of us at Carriearl really appreciate your comments. It was a pleasure to have both of you to stay with us, and we enjoyed your company and our exchange of stories. Both Marty and I love what we do, and great guests, like you both, make everything so much easier. We are delighted with our English Chef Stuart and his wonderful cuisine. He has really blossomed while working here, and just loves creating and presenting lovely dishes. He is also great company, and a joy to have around. Yes, our Blackened Conch has become a well requested speciality here, we are so glad you enjoyed it!! Thank you for staying with us and we would love to meet you both again, and maybe have to chance to meet your families. Stay safe, Angie and Marty

rarely can you find a true gem located on a 5 mile white sand beach that is usually yours alone! The Carriearl Hotel is such a place and I urge all of you to go visit before the world finds out about it. Marty, the owner, goes out of his way to make sure your every wish is granted and the current chef, Stuart, could easily find a job in any of the world’s best restaurants. In addition, Marty can line you up with one of the all time great fishing guides, Percy Darville. Don’t miss this one!

Hi, First of all my apologies for not responding sooner, but my I Pad would not allow me to do so and I am still in the UK recovering from my hip operation. I know I did not get the chance to meet you but Marty told me that you were charming guests and that he really enjoyed your company. So, thank you so much for your review and lovely comments. Of course the beach is even more deserted, but just as beautiful. Hopefully, we will be able to open up to hosting guests soon so that they can get away to chill and forget about the rest of the world’s problems for a while. Stuart is thrilled at your praise for his culinary expertise, and we do agree with you, he is such an asset and a delight to have around. Our Bone Fishing is some of the best in the Bahamas and as you say, Percy is an amazing fishing guide. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you again at Carriearl. Angie and Marty

I went with a friend to the Carriearl in early December for a very quick get away from the frigid Northeastern weather to see what Great Harbour Cay had to offer. We booked about a month out and Angie was very responvie and squeezed us in. They picked us up at the airport and got us around the island as much and as we needed. We did some fishing with the local island fishing guide and they helped with all of the arrangements for that as well. The Carriearl is fantastically located near a secluded beach on the East side of the island. It is the only decent restaurant in town and serves great food. We ate all of of our meals there and never had a bad one..... in fact it was hard to eat breakfast as we already had enough from the night before! The staff was excellent and we always had a drink and/or were asked about what we wanted to eat or drink. The chef did an excellent job and had enough variety on the menu that we were able to eat something new every night. The food really was outstanding and I felt lucky that we had this available as there are little to no options on GHC. The bar is well stocked; bottled beers, draft beers, great wines, a great selection of rum drinks and a great selection of spirits. Rooms were great. Ours was very clean and was cleaned everyday. We had a king bed and a day bed, both very comfortable. Overall this was a wonderful find. Angie and Marty are absolutely wonderful hosts and they have done a great job building a beautiful get away on a fantastic island! We felt very welcome from the time we met Angie at the airport, until Marty dropped us off at the airport. They really love this place, and it shows. We can't wait to go back.... hopefully very soon!

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us, we are so lucky to nearly always have nice weather here in the Bahamas. We are both in shorts and t-shirts when our Bahamian friends are wrapped up in woolly hats and jackets! Perhaps that is why we are called 'The Mad Brits'!! It must be wonderful to get away from the winter cold weather. We are glad you enjoyed the fishing here, Percy Darville is a renowned Bone Fishing Guide and everyone loves a day on the water with him. We are very proud of our Restaurant and our new Chef Stuart who is our protégée from England, he loves creating different dishes and is always surprising us with something new. We are just having an area around the pool decked so that we can offer more al fresco dining. It is going to look amazing and will be called 'Piddling Pete's' - after our replica of the Mannequin Pis from Brussels who 'piddles' in the pool all day long. Thank you for your kind comments, and we hope you really do come back soon! Happy New Year, Best wishes, Angie and Marty

My husband and I were involved in the initial development of Great Harbour Cay in the Berry Islands, Bahamas, in the mid-60's and I had always wanted to go back and see what had transpired since then. Marty and Angie, the proprietors of the Carriearl Boutique Hotel have done a wonderful job of renovating and enlarging the hotel. The staff were all courteous and friendly and their new chef, Stuart, was a smash hit.....wonderful food and fabulous presentation. The rooms were large and comfortable. I would go back to visit in a heartbeat.

We loved having you to stay with us and to see the wonderful photographs that you had from the 1960's. Thank you for letting us have copies of them. We are all fascinated about the development here and it was so interesting to hear about your involvement in the architecture. My brother was friends with Sir William McAlpine, of the Construction and Civil Engineering Company in England who built all the roads here in the 1960's and he sent me the original drawings etc. Thank you for your kind comments, and we are so glad you enjoyed our food and staying with us. Chef Stuart will be delighted!!! You are always welcome, so please do come back again, we still have lots to chat about. We hope that 2020 is kind to you and stay well. Best wishes, Angie and Marty
