This place really is magical. We had our third stay at the hotel a few weeks ago and it never fails to disappoint. Best to arrive as an independent traveller, taking the boat down Lake Brienz from Interlaken and then the funicular to the hotel (don't pay as it's free to hotel guests, you'll be given a hotel guest ticket).... On a sightseeing trip we stopped for lunch at the Grandhotel Giessbach. The menu had a position "For Families, 2 or more people". My spouse and I ordered the position "Hörnli mit Gehacktem" for 2 people at Fr. 19.00 each. We were told that the prices don't apply to us; we don't qualify as a family since we don't have... More

I took the boat from Brienz to the hotel dock and historic funicular. What a way to arrive! The hotel is situated in a most beautiful location between the waterfall and lake. The public spaces are elegant. I sat in front of a fire in the lobby fireplace listening to live piano music with a glass of wine. Lovely atmosphere.... More

This took the cake ! You say 687 wows ! Glory be and heavenly. Off the boat and onto the oldest funicular in Switzerland, like a toy that goes straight up the mountain. The dwarflike ticket man kept saying « Wunderbar ! » and he was right. The experience starts before you get there. Boat ride on the Brienz Lake, funicular up, very beautiful. We had a voucher so cannot complain but overheard some of the room prices and it seems a bit pricey. We spent one night at the Grandhotel Griessbach, on the eve of Switzerland's national day. Pros: Amazing historic property. This is a historic grand-hotel, that is superbly well mantained at the level of a very good 4 stars property. PROPERTY: Spotless, no rust, with beautiful gardens and flowers.
