We were under the impression that we would be going to a quaint Christmas tree lighting. It was anything but that. My four and six-year-old could not even see the tree with the amount of people there were. The hotel was full of drunk people coming in and out at all hours of the night. With paper thin walls we barely slept. The couch in the living area was only a two-seater and not comfortable. As far as the location it's top notch but if you're looking for a comfortable bed and living area and a quiet sleep , I would not choose this hotel. There were also lots of stains on the carpeting. It's not the hotel's fault but the town of dahlonega should market their quaint Christmas differently. It's really mostly loud, drunk adults, did not see many kids. We really enjoyed the town the next day when all the drunk people left it was wonderful at that point.

The hotel has nice rooms and it was clean. It is close enough to downtown to walk which is convenient. We were surprised to find the restaurant closed both days we were there and several of the local shops as well. Bathroom needs a TP holder rather than a floppy metal stand and the toilet needs a lid as you run the risk of dropping towels in the bowl if you're not careful. And check to see if there is a Do Not Disturb placard if you don't care to have the room made up. Our room didn't have one and we were surprised they came in and made up the room while we were out.

Great location and super cute room. I stayed in a 2 bed/2 bath with my family, and our room was equipped with a full kitchen, living room, and balcony with rocking chairs. We were in room 124, literally steps away from the adorable shops and restaurants. It was very convent to walk out of our room and simply cross the street to have breakfast and meander the quaint shops. The room was competitively priced and was a good value for our money. Everyone was well cleaned and comfortable. We stayed 3 nights (Friday - Monday). Here's the downside to this historic hotel: No elevators. We had to climb 2 flights of stairs from the parking lot with our heavy luggage. If you are unable to climb stairs or carry your heavy luggage by yourself, this will be an issue. We arrived after hours (after 10 pm) and were told there would be an extra blanket and pillow in each room, which there wasn't. The beds only had a sheet and a very thin cover and only one of the rooms had an extra blanket. We were cold on our first night. When you stay with multiple people (there were 3 of us), agreeing on the temperature of the house can be challenging (there was one main cooling/heating system for the whole space). Housekeeping should ensure that each room has the amenities it needs. Something as simple as extra blankets should be standard. We were also told there would be bottles of water in our room, which there was not. That may seem like a small thing to mention, but after a long day of travel from the west coast and arriving late at night, it would have been nice to have some bottled water. Being steps away from the main square was a pleasant surprise and welcomed, but it was also very noisy. There were lots of people and street traffic noise on Friday and Saturday night. It was quieter on Sunday, but Monday morning we were awakened at 7:15am by the city's workers and their gas powered leaf blowers. For nearly 75 minutes they sounded as if they were in our room. I know the hotel has no control over this, but they could certainly invest in upgraded windows. The windows in the bedroom were drafty and old with no seal and no screens. Every little noise from outside felt like it was in our room. Waking up this way really soured the end of our stay. Overall, it was a good trip. If we every stay here again, we will be mindful of where our room is located and possibly request one farther away from the busy town square.

The only thing that was good at lunch was the fried chicken - and it was also the only thing that was hot. But worst of all was not being offered any compensation by the Manager on duty after re-voicing our complaints to her. To be fair, the wait staff did reheat the watered down gravy and potatoes; but even that did not make them edible. And you have to pay in advance for the meal and they do not tell you that a 4% fee will be charged for using a credit card to pay the bill. All in all, a very bad experience that will never be repeated.

Yes I did speak with you about the matter and if you would of taken this up with your server, they would bring more to your temperature liking. But when I did bring this up to you, you said you didn't want to be that customer that complains but here you are............

I was impressed how nice the rooms are in their new building. Nice design and everything was very fresh. Unfortunately, it was so fresh we found that the deadbolt wasn't installed properly to our door. The bold did not line up to the hole in the jam and we couldn't lock our door beyond the automatic lock of the door. Of course we didn't find this out until 11pm when settling down for the night. Everything else was good with the stay. I will warn future guests to make sure you do not leave your car parked in the garage if your check out is on a week day. In the AM when we were checking out we had received a ticket from the University for being in their garage on a weekday. We let the woman at the desk know about both issues but didn't seem like a lot was going to be done about it and additionally I sent an e-mail asking for them to fix the deadbolt and to make the parking situation more clear to guests but they did not respond to the e-mail.

Went to this unassuming place on a recommendation. Did not disappoint. The fried chicken was delicious. The food is served family style based on the number in your party. Don't forget to view the gold mine near the bathrooms.

Overpriced. Room should be bigger and at least have a microwave for this price. The exterior building looks pretty. My room is quiet. Convenient to the town square businesses. Bathroom floor is a little dusty. Breakfast is just cold muffins, fruit cups, and coffee.

The Welch Cottage by Smith House was perfect for our family during a recent wedding. The cottage offered privacy for all of our travelers, while incorporating gathering spots for group enjoyment (we especially loved the patio.) The photos don't do the cottage justice. If you love the charm of a lovely cottage, this is the place for you. Also, the staff was very helpful to us on more than one occasion when we mixed up our keys! Great place to stay, we will return.

During a recent trip from central Florida to North Georgia we made a stop in Dahlonega, GA. We chose the Smith House for our dinner meal (sorry to say). Their previous reputation was far from what we experienced during this visit. This was not the same restaurant we had visited in the past. Their quality had declined. On May 11, 2023, we arrived about 1:30 pm, and were met by the cashier to pay for our meal in advance, $46.93 for the 2 of us. Went into the dining room where there were only about a dozen patrons. We were seated and the waitress asked what we wanted to drink, brought our beverages (water) and a few moments later brought out the meal in bowls that would serve two. We were underwhelmed. The fried chicken was overcooked and dry, the thinly sliced ham was dry, the mashed potatoes were like water (overcooked), the green beans were overcooked. But the creamed corn, rolls and corn muffins were delicious, which we asked for more since the rest of the meal was far below any restaurant’s standards. We mentioned this to the waitress. Her comments were ‘when it was nearing the end of service, sometimes food would get overcooked.’ But there was no offer to FIX the items on the table to make them edible. Yes, we ate the chicken and the ham since we were hungry and had paid A LOT of money for our meal. We left with no recognition from the kitchen or wait staff about the quality of our food. What a disappointment and money spent down the drain. As a business owner, we think you should be ashamed to put this $47 + tip meal before your guests and not apologize and try to remedy the food quality. How can you justify this experience? We could have gone to Dairy Queen and had a more enjoyable meal for half the price. We shared our experience with the hotel personnel and were told they had also received some negative comments from other guests.

The Smith House was a cute little hotel in Dahlonega, GA. Its location was perfect to downtown, just a block from downtown. The rooms are a little dated, but they were clean. I would stay here again.
