We stayed in a King Balcony Suite at the Park Plaza. This 100 year old hotel is very charming. It's like an old European boutique hotel and like stepping back in time. The lobby decor is lovely and the rooms are furnished in dark period furniture. Things we liked: the huge four poster king size bed with a great mattress and pillows; the antique elevator that was an adventure in itself, the friendly, attentive staff at the front desk; the central location on Park Ave with three restaurants within a block and a chocolate and ice cream shop just across the street; the continental breakfast delivered to our room on request; the outdoor space on the balcony hung with ferns overlooking Park Ave (or some things about it) Things we disliked: the noise from the street below and train out back (ear plugs are provided by the hotel); the tiny bathroom with the worst shower ever that went hot to cold without touching the knobs and that had absolutely no surfaces to put your own stuff; the worn creaky, uneven floors; the louvered shutters that didn't work properly; and the dirt and grime on the balcony and balcony chairs. Our balcony had so much dirt and leaves that mushrooms were growing in the cracks between the boards and the "white" wicker chairs had filthy arms from others' soiled hands. When we mentioned the chairs at checkout, we were assured new ones were on order but that didn't help us this time. The cons were topped by not having maid service one day even though we left and put out our sign to make up the room at 8:30 a.m. and greeted the maids as they were arriving and getting things from their staging area just past our room. Returned after noon to put our feet up and rest and found we had had no cleaning service despite being gone all morning. The maid's excuse was "we had to wait for linens" - disappointing. So, in the long run, the charm of this unique hotel was outweighed for us by the inconveniences. Some people love it; some hate it, obviously for the pro and con reasons above. We probably would choose a different hotel next time.…
Loved the feel and decoration of the room! We booked a room with a balcony facing Park Avenue. The bathroom is dated for the period of the home but that made it fun. The breakfast delivery was nice with coffees, juices, and warm croissants. Coffee was available in the lobby at 6 a.m. Friendly staff, an opportunity for valet parking too so that we didn't have to keep feeding a meter or moving the car. The drawback is the noise. It's not the hotel's fault, but they have single pane windows and the street is noisy. Very inconsiderate people have their car radios blasting until all hours, musicians stand on corners in the park with amplifiers until 10 p.m., and the restaurant across the street is noisy with people and music until midnight, even during the week. Didn't make for a good night sleep. They give ear plugs in the rooms, so this noise problem is obviously well known. The windows and balcony door did nothing to block the noise. It's a shame because the hotel is absolutely lovely. Maybe a room further from the Park or in the back would be better.…
Great location, interesting lobby, nice staff. I was told it is one hundred years old and I can believe it. Considering the upscale nature of Winter Park, I think the owners could consider some upgrading. Note: the water lines are reversed so you can leave the hot water on all day and still get cold water. A simple swap of the water lines would solve the problem. Also, bring your own pillow. The bed was comfortable, but pillows need immediate replacement. A very nice feature to the small room was the lovely outside balcony. Very lovely, but we could not sit out there due to smokers. Signs must be put on all the tables that tell guest to respect others and PLEASE DO NOT SMOKE!. Nuff said.
The hotel is old and historic so you must like that and be ok with small bathroom and dark room Our main shutter to the outside balcony was broken so it was dark in our room We also needed help with the heat ac system which is a small unit on the wall . The bed was comfortable and we slept well Some noise fm restaurant across the street but was not too bad The folks at the desk and valet and cleaning staff were helpful and nice. We enjoyed the hot pastry . Would suggest half and half since we don’t like coffee mate. Too windy to sit on balcony But nice if weather permits
We have been going to the Park Plaza Hotel in Winter Park, Fl for many years and it is always a pleasure ... Yes, it is 100 years old, but the history ... if those walls could only talk. Always an enjoyable stay. The front desk personnel is ALWAYS so helpful and do all that they can to ensure your visit is a pleasant one.
