Average accommodations and no staff member went above and beyond. Few made eye contact or smiled. I still have not received a statement of charges. With the exception of overflowing towel bins by the pool, the facility is very clean.

Great location, but customer service was off the chart. Awesome!! Better than some Disney resorts. Lazy river was great and has fun for all family. Clean and cozy. Quick transportation to Citywalk. Great selection of food.More

JUST did this myself and the answer is YES. We checked in around 7:30am, received our room key, and dropped off our luggage for safekeeping. All you need for early entry to the park is a room key - you simply flash it on a line while in the park. No one touches it, no one examines it, no one compares it to list of anything. Early entry allowed us to get some great pictures and for the available rides, no wait. Worth it!

The exterior entrance suites are family suites. They open to the pool area with the water slide. The perks to that for us was we had easy access to our car, the parking is right there. It also is very close to the walking trail to the parks and to Sapphire Falls, where you can take the boat into the parks. The down side was even though it’s not a long walk to the lobby, the walk is all outdoors which was not great on a rainy day. Also, our too faced out to the parking area and the street. Not a big deal but we didn’t have a great view from our room.
The interior entrance rooms (tower rooms) are mostly regular double rooms. Our room was about half way down the corridor, and I can see how further down the hall it could be considered a long walk. I did like that we came out of the corridor right where the bowling alley, arcade and dining area are. We didn’t have to go outdoors to get to the lobby. When we were in this room, we had a great pool view, as well. The other perk is we were much closer to the bus pickup and drop off than we were in the exterior entrance suites.
Both rooms were nice and were clean. Each had it’s pros and cons, as location is concerned.

You can purchase express passes for each visitor for each day of your stay. It is not included in the Cabana Bay or Saphire Falls Packages. You might compare the purchase price of a package at one of the 3 higher end hotels at Universal to compare. Mostly I've read you get a nicer hotel for about the same price as if you choose to purchase express passes.
