If you are looking for a superb deep tissue massage you need to call Mikaela at Soma Spa. She has a lovely personality, will address any problem areas, and the cave environment is excellent for relaxation. You can even has a dip in the jacuzzi whirlpool! If you are staying in or near Firostrefani in Santorini I highly recommend an appointment.
This was a family stay in one of the DVC villas. Bell service was non-existent but front desk staff was lovely. The room was nice - not spectacular. If you are looking for Disney theming, it's not here. We had a studio for 3 people. Two showers in the bathroom area was nice, but that's all that made this different from a regular hotel room. It was lovely to be able to walk to the Magic Kingdom on the new walkway! There are absolutely no shops in the DVC building. It is near the fitness center, which is quite small considering the size of this resort.
Our second stay at the Villas at the Grand Floridian was even more magical than our first 3 years ago. We stayed 6 nights in an upper floor 1 bedroom villa with a standard view of the main lobby and monorail station. Everything about this resort stay was amazing; breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe, the walkway to MK, the pools, the refurbished rooms, the ambiance, the proximity to parking, the walk way to the Polynesian, etc. I loved relaxing in the room at night with the doors open, and waking up to the view of monorails coasting by. The rooms are light and bright, and the new furniture is lovely. The lobby of the villas is gorgeous and the service provided by the cast members is exceptional. The penguins fountain is “practically perfect”! I plan to stay here again next May, and will no longer be doing a split stay with another resort. No other resort I have seen compares!…
I have stayed at Grand Floridian in the traditional resort rooms a number of times and always had positive experiences. I’ve always loved the resort’s mix of grandeur and classic charm, and how you can feel like you’re in a perfect little world within the courtyard setup of the property. While my experience at VGF was fine and nothing to complain about, I did find that the villas weren’t quite as magical as the resort side and didn’t exactly live up to the hefty points/price tag. We stayed prior to the recent soft goods room refresh, so some things we noticed in the room may now be a non-issue. Our standard studio was spacious albeit quite worn, as evidenced in the walls and furnishings. The fixtures were high quality but had seen better days. My favorite part of the room design was the massive bathroom, which was spread across three separate areas and included both a walk-in shower and tub-shower combo. Though a small detail, I especially loved the TV built into the bathroom mirror as it was an addition that made the room feel a little more luxe than other DVC villas. From our standard studio balcony, we felt just feet away from the Monorail passing by (the coolest thing about this location), and had a view of the Wedding Pavilion and some snippets of Polynesian and the Seven Seas Lagoon. The location of the VGF building is on the outskirts of the property and closer to high traffic areas, such as the parking lot, the gym/spa and basketball court, the Wedding Pavilion, and the walkway to Polynesian. All of the coming and going around the area kind of felt like we had one foot in Grand Floridian and the other outside the resort’s “bubble”. With the location of the building, I felt a bit isolated from the main resort and outside of the things that make Grand Floridian so special. The walk back and forth to the main building/buses was pretty direct but the separation from all the happenings definitely felt more impactful when we experienced bouts of heavy rain and felt restricted to the villas building. Overall we had a good experience but I did leave feeling underwhelmed. Keeping in mind this is usually the highest points resort (and highest cash price resort, always excluded from discounts), if felt like there should have been more to VGF. It didn’t feel like the villas had many (if any) exclusive amenities, and I’ve definitely noticed more villas-exclusive amenities at lower points resorts (BLT or BCV, for example). I would be more likely to try VGF again in the future once the new resort studios on the main property are completed.…
The new updates for the rooms are very nice. It was time and Disney delivered as it has been almost 10 years since the VGF were built. The Murphy beds are very nice. I slept on one for four nights and it was very comfortable and not much different than a bed. As we stayed in a two bedroom and then a one bedroom we were lucky to have laundry capabilities. This is so nice as you may pack less and even take home clean clothing. My only concern was: We were in a two bedroom and then had to move to the one bedroom which is a bit of a hassle. Had we been in a two bed lock-off we would not have had to move. We spoke to concierge about this prior to travel, at arrival, and again right before we had to pack up and move.
First off, we had such an amazing time at WDW! And we will be back I'm sure. I was a bit torn on what to rate this hotel. For review purposes this is split between the main hotel and the villas. We stayed in the villas. Both are listed separately as 5-star hotels. Despite my frustrations I would gladly stay at either again in the future. Our family had a wonderful time at Disney World and at this resort. It is very well located on the monorail. We originally booked about a year ago, and updated our arrival time to 1:30 when we booked our flights several months ago (I understand this is before 4:00 check in). When you check in on the app it ask about your room preferences, and you can bypass that and say "I just want the first available room". Well, we didn't get into our room until after dinner. That was very hard traveling with two small kids. The villa was great. It was set up very well for a family. But don't be mistake that a "lake view" necessarily means a view of Magic Kingdom because we faced away from it. Oh well. This resort is extremely spread out, and there are no services at the villas building. All restaurants, etc. are in the main hotel buildings. That's not that big of a deal, but it was quite frustrating that you can't even get a cup of coffee without a 10 minute walk to the main building. And for the prices they charge, maybe put some free coffee in the lobby? Heck, add $10 to the rate and do it, no one would notice. The main building has most of the restaurants, but not all, and you do have to walk outside to get some. We were there as the mask mandate expired. I realize the hotel wasn't built with masks in mind, but having to walk in and out of buildings in heat and humidity, rain, masks are frustrating. But that's not really their fault. The real frustration on the restaurants and shops were that: (1) there were none at all in the villas building, (2) several were closed so it was *extremely* hard to get into the ones that were open, (3) there was no place to get ice cream, which seems like such a fun warm weather thing to do, especially at a Victorian style hotel, and (4) there was not a good selection of sundries. Disney has such a massive amount of people on property but they have a worse selection of toiletries, medicines, and other basics than a typical Marriott. Regarding restaurants being close, I talked to some staff and they told me they believe it is a staffing issue (that's certainly believable). But I would suggest the right thing to do at a 5-star hotel is to not fully book the hotel as there were not enough eating establishments for the guests. That's no good at a 5-star resort. Having said all that, we really did have a good time. The staff was really great and very helpful. They were very knowledgeable about the parks and could answer our questions. Even though they said housekeeping was every other day, our room was refreshed daily. Despite my frustrations with the hotel I would stay here again, and maybe lean toward the hotel itself rather than villas. The location is fantastic, being on the monorail. The atmosphere is nice. The staff was really great. Staying in the main hotel with all restaurants open I would have given this hotel a 5 star review. But the lack of services in the villa building, several closed restaurants while still fully booking the hotel, and not having our room ready anywhere near the stated check in time warrant the 3 star review this time.…
The villas are being updated brilliantly! The fresh take on the Victorian inspiration could not be more perfect! The new Murphy bed is so much better than the old sleeper sofa. The new carpet, upholstery and paint is so fresh and vibrant! Wish they would have kept the tv in the bathroom mirrors, or at least added a tv to the bathroom. Cast members were all excellent at the resort! (Parks are another story) Disney is changing and not for the better. But I will return a few more times - and will ONLY stay at the Villas at Grand Floridian!
The hotel is beautiful. We love coming here and never have any issues. The staff is always so friendly and it’s always so clean. I highly recommend coming here even if you’re not visiting the parks. There’s so much to do as a couple and with the kids.
Room: needs a complete refresh. Stains on couch cushions and chair cushions. Bathroom hardware falling apart with finishes all rusted. Cobwebs in room between the curtains and the door out to the balcony. Room for five people, towels for three. Normally you can pay extra to have daily housekeeping, but it was not available during our stay. Resort: pool activities on the resort activity list did not take place for the children. Bathroom was not very clean. We are not allowed a late checkout, but we were told there are showers available in the pool bathroom to freshen up and change. Well, it would be nice if there was warm water, but nope. Bus service to parks were limited and sporadic, ended up using Uber for Epcot, AK and Hollywood Studios. Staying at a flagship resort, but having to spend six months trying to get dinner reservations at the restaurants is unacceptable. The only reservations we were able to book at the hotel were 830, which with children is not easy. What made it harder is that they never even run close to the reservation time. Unable to get a single breakfast in the five days we were on property. If you are looking for a more luxurious experience, I truly recommend considering one of the other resorts near the parks. We've stayed at the Four Seasons, and considering the cleanliness, the attentiveness, and the service (including availability of meals), we are considering selling back our DVC membership and just traveling ala carte if we ever want to return to Magic Kingdom.…
4 stars for the room- the service and staff need to do better. Our room was gorgeous! We loved the view of the lake, the spa shower was amazing, the soaking tub was awesome! There were a few hiccups with the room like the tub wouldn’t stop up so we had to call maintenance, the tv wasn’t working so we called maintenance-little things like that but nothing major. Overall, a beautiful resort and if you get a chance to eat at the seafood restaurant, do it! It’s phenomenal!!! Now my complaints. 1- our magic bands constantly stopped working. We went to the front desk and called the entire time we stayed on property which was 7 days! 2- we ate at the restaurant in the lobby, had reservations, and were seated within a few mins of our reservation. Our waitress, poor thing, I’m pretty sure she forgot about us after our meal was served. We waited 20 minutes before we finally flagged down another waitress and asked if she could get our check. Our initial waitress came back with the check and disappeared. There was no pen to sign and tip her with so we had to flag down the 2nd waitress again for a pen. Not a huge deal but the restaurants aren’t at full capacity and it looked well staffed. 3- it seems like there’s no bell hop. I don’t have an issue with this except we had a bell hop one day then never again. I was confused what was going on there. 4- on day 1, we had been had the hotel a few hours when it started to rain and had to leave the pool area due to lightening. We decided to explore the lobby and look at the shops. We went up to Basin which is a store that sells every bath bomb scent you can possibly imagine. I had my mask on, I’m also fully vaccinated, and I pulled my mask down to smell a bath bomb and immediately put it back on. The manager....yes, the manager, walked by and stated that masks must be worn at all times. Now, after traveling in a car for 2 days and driving 16 hours I was exhausted and I’m not sure if I sounded rude (my husband said I wasn’t and he would definitely tell me) but her response was 100% unwarranted. I asked how I’m supposed to smell the bath bombs with my mask on. I actually felt like this was a legitimate question considering I wasn’t sure if they had a new process since we had only been at the resort a few hours, hadn’t been to the resort since covid and seriously had no idea what their policies are bc things change everywhere daily. The manager turned to me and said “put it on your forehead!” My husband heard her and we both kind of laughed bc what else do you do in that moment. She was clearly agitated and refused to make eye contact with me the rest of the time I shopped and checked out and basically ignored me. I’m not an antimasker. I follow policy and protocols and respect those working in industries like retail/hospitality/etc. I maintain a safe distance from others and even though I’m vaccinated I wear a mask in crowded places. I appreciate that Disney has taken precautions with Covid. Her response, not necessary! I emailed Disney immediately! I got ZERO response but I was sent the Covid policies via my app about 10 times during my stay. We’re DVC members. We’ve been members for 12+ years. We stay on Disney property almost every year. There’s a level of politeness and courtesy that is expected. I get there are probably those who show up angry about having to wear a mask and honestly, it’s the ONLY reason I didn’t say something back. I’m sure she’s tired- so was I but the difference is I wasn’t the one working. Do better, Disney!…
