Our five day holiday included a day at Beamish outdoor museum, and the National Rail Museum, Shildon. The hotel was nicely furnished, good food, friendly staff, and entertainment every night. The weather also played it's part, sunny and dry, with clear skies every day.

Stayed for a weekend break with National Holidays The hotel and staff were very welcoming and the food was plentiful and varied, The rooms were spacious and furnishings lovely and comfortable. The pool and spa looked lovely but we didn't take advantage of the facilities, maybe next time. The whole weekend was great and we will certainly be returning.

This is our second visit to the Eden Arms and again we weren't disappointed. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming, however it has to be said that the hotel was short of staff as those that were working were flitting from one job to another. The rooms are quite large if a little tired, the food was good...

Stopped here last weekend as part of a national holidays trip to the north east. First impressions were ok, and although it is in a remote location, the hotel itself seemed ok. Small reception and only one staircase in operation caused a few problems at first as most of our party were elderly so a lift would've helped. Maintenance man...

My Husband and I stayed at the Eden Arms Hotel from the 28th to the 31st of October 2016. We were allocated Room 29 absolutely superb. The Manager Laurie and all Hotel Staff were extremely friendly. The meals were good tasty and plentiful. The entertainment was not to out taste at all, but enjoyed the atmosphere and company of other...

Second time we have stayed here and it was just as good as the first. The staff are lovely and the hotel comfortable and clean. It's a great place to explore the North East from. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. The area of Durham and the city itself is lovely. People are friendly well worth...

This was the best shearings holiday hotel I have visited. Staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Waitresses work extremely hard but still smile and nothing is any trouble. Will definitely go again. Recently newly decorated. Entertainment every night was excellent. Bars and service wonderful.

Stayed for a family wedding. The room had clearly seen better days and in need of complete refurbishment, grubby and wall paper lifting from the walls. The floors in the corridors were uneven and there was clearly loose floorboards under the carpets which could present a hazard to the infirm. Though the staff were pleasant and doing their best there...

Fantastic news, we have just had 16 rooms refurbished and have 12 more planned for next year! It is an old building but we would never use this as any form of excuse as it is the rustic charm of a 16th century building that makes us so special. I hope that may response was sufficient and has efficiently addressed...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Eden Arms Hotel is another one of our great character hotels. The building dates back to the 17th-century when it was a coaching inn. Many of our guests use the hotel as a base to explore the city of Durham and the picturesque countryside around. The location, just eight miles from the historic city centre, is the ideal place to relax and unwind for both leisure and business travellers alike. For those who are keen to explore further afield, the city of Newcastle with its regenerated riverfront and great shopping and hospitality is within easy driving distance. The Eden Arms offers comfortable accommodation and also boasts a leisure club featuring a gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa.
