From the moment we arrived at Clonabreany, we knew it was our dream wedding venue. The calm ,countryside atmosphere and the beautiful house and marquee had us in awe from the onset. After walking into the reception area of the house we were in love with the place…the décor, cleanliness and friendly atmosphere made this our number 1 choice. 1 and a half years later after viewing Clonabreany, Covid decided to throw a curveball to our plans. Along with many other couples, we made the difficult choice to postpone our wedding from July 2020 to July 2021. Clonabreany could not have been any more kind and helpful during the process of postponing and changing our date, even going to the effort of emailing us words of positivity and encouragement. As our new wedding date drew near, we realised that the ‘big’ wedding wasn’t going to happen and no way was Covid stopping our plans again. We decided to go ahead with a wedding of 50 guests. Shiyra, our wedding co-ordinator was a dream to work with. Not only was she approachable and patient leading up to the wedding, she was also good humoured and kept us positive and happy during the difficult process of organising a ‘covid restricted wedding.’ On the day of our wedding, Clonabreany bet all expectations. Everything was perfect on the day; the wedding could not have gone any better. The staff were so meticulous and professional on the day and the food was absolutely divine. Our guests were full of admiration and praise for the venue, as were my husband and I. In the short space of time in which we were in Clonabreany, it became like a ‘home away from home’. We became so attached to the place in such a short space of time which really shows what an amazing place it really is. Clonabreany will always have a very special place in our hearts! Thank you to Shiyra and the amazing staff at Clonabreany for giving us the wedding of dreams! Love Laura & Andy x

Disgraceful handling of our Rescheduled Wedding It took alot of time and consideration and research to find the Amazing Clonabreany House. For almost 2 years of planning we Couldn’t fault it. The venue, the grounds, the area, everything was just perfect for our big day. We originally booked for a Friday in July 2020 and had a 120-140 guest list at around €115 a head. Due to the pandemic we decided to postpone our wedding date to May 2021. Giving us 10 months for the pandemic to hopefully pass. We signed new contracts for a Sunday in May with 80 guests which was a slightly lower rate than our Original Friday wedding @ €109 per head. We hadn’t heard from Clonabreany between April when we had rescheduled and November 2020 so we requested a call as we had anxiety surrounding the ongoing pandemic and we wanted reassurance. We spoke to the owner, and we advised her that we wanted to go ahead with our wedding whether we had 6,25 or 50 of our contracted guests. This might have been our downfall, showing our cards. We asked about a fee as we had seen this topic mentioned on a wedding forum (higm), she seemed to dodge answering it fully. She advised there would be a really small feel, no set fee and it depended on how things are at the time of our wedding. She also said that we could have additional toast drink or an open bar for the fee we would be paying. This made me anxious not having an exact answer, but I convinced myself to think positive and wait to see how things panned out. My partner & I naively discussed the possibility of the fee being around €1000 - €1500 and we were willing to accept this however, we should have asked for something in writing to specify the terms as again it was never mentioned or outlined in our renewed contract. Also the contact nowhere says that you must meet the minimum number of guests. Fast forward to 13 weeks before our wedding date in May 2021. We were assigned a new coordinator (our 3rd one since we booked) after we requested to be contacted. We went through all of our concerns and our general run-up-To-the-wedding planning questions with her. She was very helpful. We asked about balances and payment due dates. This is when She mentioned the €3500 venue hire fee. We ended the conversation still unclear on the costing. So we called the coordinator back, and she explained this fee again but didn’t explain the details or breakdown of this fee. Afterwards My partner & I then came to the realisation of what they were actually charging us. If we had 6 guests attending: We would Take 1 bungalow for overnight accommodation - this was a set fee of €750. We would Pay for the orchard/ceremony room - this was always a set fee of €700 We would Pay a Venue Fee €3500. So a 6 person wedding would cost approx €4950! For 6 People!!! If we had 25 guests attending: We would take a minimum 15 rooms for overnight accommodation at approx €90per person per night b&b We would pay for the orchard room - this was always a set fee of €700 We would pay for 25 Guests Plus the bride and groom @ €109 per head We would Pay a Venue Fee €3500. So a 25 person wedding would cost approx €7143. The fee being higher than the actual cost of the wedding!! Plus with 25 guests we would realistically only have 12 rooms occupied (12 couples) so we would also foot the bill for the extra 3 rooms. If we had 50 guests attending: We would take a minimum 27 rooms for overnight accommodation at approx €90per person per night b&b We would pay for the orchard room - this was always a set fee of €700 We would pay for 50 Guests Plus the bride and groom @ €109 per head We would Pay a Venue Fee €3500. So a 50 person wedding would cost approx €9868. Our original wedding contract for 80 Guests @ €109 per head was costing €9420 So they were set to make more during this Pandemic than they would have with our original contract! Bearing in mind, pre pandemic we were willing to hand them between €13,800 to €16,100 for 120-140 guests @ €115 a head. This was not about the money as much as it was about the greed surrounding the fee being charged. And the fact that we were being penalised for wishing to go ahead with our wedding and supporting the venue while doing so. We asked for the fee to be reduced but they refused and tried to justify it by saying they had to pay for deep cleaning, chef’s & preparation. All of which would well be paid for out of the rooms and the fee per head with room for profit. The alternative was no couple marrying there and no profit at all for that day. It was all handled via email, which were professionally & politely written, however the handling of the whole situation was completely unprofessional and unfair with no consideration to how their couples were coping with home/work/finances. They were only interested in a buck at the end of the day. I myself work in the travel industry and we went above and beyond for our customers and would never charge extortionate fees even though we were one of the worst hit industries during the pandemic. We eventually terminated any contract with Clonabreany, were refused a refund of our deposit even though they were in breach and had frustrated their contract, And we took the matter to the small claims court.

It is difficult to put into words the amazing experience we had of Clonabreany House. We booked our wedding in September 2019 for November 2020. Pre any pandemic, Clonabreany staff were so lovely to deal with, no question was an issue and they reassured us and offered us different options we had never even thought of for our day. Pandemic hit- Mary was a dream! We first made contact in May 2020 ahead of November and Mary was just brilliant providing us reassurance at a time when everything was so uncertain. Mary kept us updated throughout the year at the different ways weddings were prooceeding in line with the National Guidelines and the improvements that were going on at Clonabreany. Every time we spoke with Mary we came away thinking our day will happen and it will be just as we had wanted, despite numbers. We had to change our date 5 times until we finally got married in early June this year. Mary & Shiyra were so helpful at constantly rearranging dates with us. Their commuication was brilliant- a key in any wedding planning. We proceeded earlier this month with 25 guests and had the most magical day. Mary & Shiyra had everything arranged and we really did just have to show up. They took any effort and stress out of planning, and I would say they felt like a counsellor to us at some stages helping us with the many different curve balls the arose (the joys of planning in a pandemic). Our day, down to 25 guests was just amazing. The staff throughtout the day were so helpful from breakfast & brunch right through to dinner & evening food. All our guests commented on the food & how tasty it was. The staff at the drinks reception continuously kept the canapes going- delcious! For anyone worrying about proceeding during a pandemic - Clonabreany has covered all issues re social distancing & hand sanister etc in such a tasteful way that you do not feel COVID has a presence on your day. You do get to enjoy every minute and forget the outside world around you. We had our drinks recpetion outside and our dinner in the main marquee. Having been worried about the room feeling too big with such small numbers- we now know this was a wasted worry! The room felt lovely and intimate and enough space for everyone! We spent our evening out in the new outdoor area down by the courtyard- this has been such an amazing addition to Clonabreany! All our guests commented how different and great this area was. We cannot thank the staff enough for making our day. And a special thank you to Packie, for directing and helping all our guests to driving us around to the various parts of the venue all day. Fiadhna & Tom

From being at a few weddings in different venues over the past few years the decision where to have ours was an easy one after attending a friends wedding at clonabreany house in 2018. The high level of service and the quality of food we experienced as guests was excellent. We booked clonabreany in January 2020 before the pandemic hit. Been a year out we were hopeful we would have our dream wedding where all of our family and friends could attend. This was looking less likely towards the end of 2020. In January amidst the lockdown we decided to go ahead with our wedding regardless of numbers. Both Mary and Shiyra at Clonabreany reassured us at every step that no matter what restrictions where in place we would have an experience to remember. Our wedding coordinator, Shirya, organized everything and sent us an itinerary for the day once we were happy all that was left was to turn up and enjoy the day. We were only allowed 6 at our wedding which made for a very intimate day. We wouldn’t change a thing, from the time we arrived to the moment we left. The level of service from all the staff at Clonabreany exceeded our expectations and the quality of the food was amazing. If we can leave any advice for any couple it would be to go ahead regardless of numbers, Clonabreany will make it feel special either way. We can not thank Clonabreany enough, we hope that in the future we can attend another wedding in this amazing venue. Grace & Michael
