What a wonderful resort. We had an amazing time! I can't wait to go back! From the minute we walked into the lobby, Truth greeted us with a smile and was very helpful! He even remembered my name when I came into the lobby the next day. And the Sunset Deck bar was great! The sunset views were absolutely amazing and Sam behind the bar was just as amazing!! Not only was he friendly, but he acknowledged everyone as they came up to the bar and he kept track of exactly who was next to be waited on. You don't see that kind of service very often!!
We had an excellent vacation stay at The Opal Key Resort. Our pool view room was very clean, relaxing and well appointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful with anything. The location and grounds are beautiful and accessible to all attractions. We had great breakfasts at Bistro 245. This our second time at Opal and it was wonderful. We are definitely returning next April.
My husband, daughter and I stayed at this resort for 4 nights in February. We had a one bedroom suite with kitchenette overlooking the pool and you could see the ocean beyond. Nice enough room although some of the common areas are a little run down/dated. Lovely staff throughout the resort. We did have to get down to the pool early to grab a good spot. The bar service and food at the pool were great and one evening we ate at the hotel restaurant, Bistro 245. The restaurant patio is directly on the pier which allows you to have the best view for watching the famous sunset. Wonderful location for walking and exploring Key West, a very unique and fun town.
Stayed 4 nights at Opal Key Resort, staff was excellent, stay was great. My wife and I played a round of golf with Sam Jacobson and his friend Taylor. I cannot stress enough the courtesy and respect received by these two young men. My wife is a new golfer and is nervous to play with strangers as she is still learning the game. Sam and Taylor made us both feel relaxed and stress free and made the round one of the best highlights of our entire vacation. Sam is a bartender at Opal Key Resort and if you get a chance to meet and spend time with him, I guarantee you will walk away with a smile on your face. He is a good soul and I will definitely be playing golf with him again when I’m back in Key West. Thank you Sam and Taylor!
Perfect resort for where it is and what it is. Tucked off of the main area and completely walkable. The resort is two buildings. The main building will have the marina view rooms and is set back a bit. Pool rooms in second building. Oceanfront room in second building overlook the pier and water. The grounds are lovely. Our room was above average. The balcony was amazing and faces the sunset. So central yet tucked away. Service amazing. Waters, coffee available. The sunset deck is the perfect place overlook the pier at sunset. I honestly can’t believe the negative reviews. I am very picky. The cruise ships can pull up but they have to be out at 5 and it did not affect our ocean front view of sunset at all. Who sits in the room all day anyway? I’d get an oceanfront room not on the first floor. They have a sunset deck bar and outdoor restaurant both excellent. I would not hesitate to stay here again!…
Our Jet Blue flight was cancelled, but that didn’t stop us. We drove from Boston to Key West straight through. The Opal Key is in a great location. We walked everywhere. The sunset deck is amazing to watch sunsets at night. The bartender’s Yarra & Zalin are outstanding! They definitely made our stay at the Opal Key exceptional. They went above and beyond for us. The food was delicious, the rooms were clean. The views are beautiful. This hotel is pricey though and rooms need some cosmetics.
The Good -Well located with easy access to Old Key West and harbor -Grounds are well maintained and the exterior paint looks OK -Cleaning crew do good job -The main desk concierge and check in staff are OK The Bad -The hotel buildings are very old. Originally a Hilton ,decades ago. In dire need of a complete renovation and some TLC. These room we were in was not even a 3 star accommodation. In serious need of renovation and TLC to restore these rooms. -We had an ocean suite on the fourth floor .... they assigned us a corner room. This limited the view. -the room looked and felt old and tired. -the original balcony in the bedroom was closed off to install wall AC unit. A very patched up job. -The furniture was also old and tired. Springs were sagging. Even got poked by feathers coming out of the pillows on the sofa. -The AC was leaking water into the balcony when we checked in. Management refused to change rooms. -The AC problem was reported earlier and the management was aware of the issue. But went ahead and assigned us that room anyway. -The AC was loud and ran nosily all the time even after reaching the set temperature. -The mattress was old and lumpy and gave us back aches for the entire week that we were there. -The "ocean" view was blocked during the day by a mammoth cruise ship most days. -Peeling wallpaper and paint. Old rain shower head with blocked nozzles. - like I said ..... a 2 star room at a 5 star price. And ... The ugly -The management team were impolite, inflexible and unhelpful. We interfaced with 3 managers while trying to get the issues resolved. Not a single one followed up. Most of them would send word through the check-in person rather than talk to us in person or invite us into their office to discuss the issues. Most of them claimed that there was nothing they could do and there was nobody available that we could escalate to. -Showed no respect for the customer or any desire to be be helpful or even simply listen. -All this at the 5 star rates they were charging. In Conclusion -Very poor experience and old and sadly ignored rooms. -Save your hard earned money and look for better accommodations with management that actually wants to earn your business.…
The room was clean and well appointed… the staff was friendly and accommodating . The grounds were well kept, the pool area was welcoming. The ice cream shop was an easy walk perhaps too easy 😊. Easy walking distance to Duval & Mallory Square. The concierge was helpful with recommendations
Best location ever, extremely friendly staff but the building and rooms itself are in a lousy condition and need remodeling. Pricing is reasonable for Key West and again, the staff is more than worth their money. Cleaning could be better.
We stayed at opal key resort last week for five nights. Although this resort is a bit pricey, the amenities and location were worth it. We had pool view rooms. The rooms were well equipped with everything, except a microwave. They were clean and up to date. The staff couldn't do enough for you. They had coffee and orange juice and bottled water in the lobby. The location couldn't be better. We walked everywhere. The restaurant, though pricey, was very good. Their portions were large, and enough for sharing. I would definitely consider returning to opal key. However, don't pay extra for water view since cruise ships block the view on most days.
