Hotel's Favourite
I selected the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel because there are many good reviews. I booked through UVC Lifestyle Collection, which then in turn used Expedia. We were going on a cruise and arriving two days prior to that. Our place had to be more than just a bed and a pillow. It had to be clean, comfortable and in a good area. There were plenty of hotels around that were close to the cruise ships. I found that most of those hotels did not have great reviews and were almost the same price.
The moment we arrived, we began to experience a very warm welcome from their most excellent Concierge. Her name is Evelyn. She was the tipping point for us that made our stay absolutely wonderful. Evelyn was always accessible and she gave us some great advice on where to go for the best deal and the best meal. She took good care of us no matter what came up. I can't say enough about Evelyn. She is without a doubt the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel Hero.
Our room was spacious and comfortable. It was actually made for the handicapped. The bathroom was also large and had a large walk-in shower. There was a fridge, safe, TV, ironing board, iron and a hairdryer. The bed was very comfortable as well. No hills or valleys. The view was spectacular. The ocean, the gardens and the A1A highway out front.
We ate once at the Steelpan restaurant located just off of the Lobby area. It was a really good experience. The food was delicious and the service was as best as it could be. They also had some Happy Hour specials that were irresistible. They had a decent-sized bar area and a friendly bartender named Patrick.
We did not swim in the heated pool although it looked very inviting. One end of the pool area connects to the bar. There are areas that can be sectioned off for private groups. We did use the beach and lounge chairs provided by the hotel. It was comfortable and well-maintained.
I do recommend this hotel. It is very clean and inviting. All of the staff are commendable. I could not find anything to substantiate any complaint that I had read in other reviews.

This is the best beachfront hotel that I have stayed in years! The premises are spotless, rooms are beautifully decorated and updated, breakfast at the in-house restaurant is varied and freshly made to order, the Ft Lauderdale Beach with chairs and umbrellas is just across the street, valet parking is accommodating and efficient, location is absolutely unmatched. Last but not least the staff was truly amazing. Everyone was friendly and anxious to make our visit the best ever. They succeeded.

This hotel is situated directly across the street from beautiful Ft Lauderdale Beach, and our hotel room had a LOVELY view of it. Chris (?) at the reception desk was a delight and it was clear that COVID precautions were in place (there was hand sanitizer and wipes everywhere and all guests/staff wearing masks).
The pool is pretty small for a hotel this big, but with the beach right across the street, it's not an issue.
What WAS a bit of a problem is that 2 lounge chairs on the beach are included in the nightly price. However, by the time we got to the beach each day, they were already taken. There were some chairs under umbrellas, but you had to pay $34 a day to rent the umbrella. It was frustrating to see beach chairs available, but not unless you pay the $34 to rent the corresponding umbrella. If you have your heart set on beach chairs, be there first thing in the morning!
The other issue is that parking is $39 night with in/out privileges. I will say that Steve, the car attendant, was GREAT! He always had a smile and a warm greeting for us and never failed to ask how our day was. It was great to start/end our day with a quick conversation with Steve.
Drinks at the hotel bar are expensive, but not unexpected for a hotel of this caliber.
There are several ethnic restaurants and a pizza parlor right next to the hotel, offering something for everyone.

Exmoor National Park, United Kingdom165 contributions132 helpful votesThe Sonesta hotel is slightly out of the main hotel collection which is a great benefit as it is much quieter. One observation is that this area does attract a few vagrants on the beach, however they were no trouble and did not hassle. The hotel is coming towards the end of a major refurbishment. Loved the dual aspect rooms. Constructive feedback for the management team - during our 6 night stay four day the room was not serviced until after 4pm (as a result of large corporate check out I presume). This is not ideal as guests are ready to make their way back to their accommodation at this time after a day on the beach or exploring. Secondly the resort feed do not include a sun parasol this is an extra charge payable on the beach. This encourages guests to possibly over expose on sun and is not in the spirit of an inclusive resort fee. All in all a good choice for visiting Fort Lauderdale with some exceptions.

Thanks very much for sharing your feedback following your recent visit. I'm happy to hear that overall you enjoyed our hotel and all of it's amenities. I am sorry to learn about the difficulties with housekeeping and I will share your comments with my team so they can improve in this particular area. With regard to the beach umbrellas, the concession stand is operated by a third party, so unfortunately, their pricing is out of our control. I do hope you will consider a future stay with us despite these minor shortcomings.

Considering all the hotels we had been to over the last 40 years, favorite none has been designed better for the handicapped patron
The rooms are designed for the one who is handicapped will not bang into uncomfortable places.
The only drawback I have goes to the entire hotel industry. I abhor the resort fees, it is a rip of the highest order
BTW parking is a fortune at 38$per day
Finally the beach is across a very busy street.

Thank you very much robert b for sharing your recent experience with us. I am so pleased that we were able to meet all of your handicapp needs which contributed to a pleasant stay. Unfortunately, due to lack of parking along Fort Lauderdale beach, we are only able to provide valet parking. I do hope you will come back to see us again soon. Thank you again for your business.

Check in went smooth and the view was nice, but we wouldn’t return.
The hotel has hand sanitizer dispensers located in the lobby but the one I tried was empty in the morning and still empty that evening.
The shower grout was discolored and appeared moldy in places.
The COVID protocol means no housekeeping, which means no clean towels, no beds made, no trash removal, etc.
The beach is nice but they tried to charge us. When I questioned it I was told “no the chairs are no charge”. Note the beach gets crowded fast, even in January.
As many of the reviews mention the pool is obscenely small.
We wanted to wait for our Uber outside, but there was a homeless person sleeping on one bench and day old vomit in front of the other. I mentioned the vomit to the front desk and was told that was a city bench.
We tried the hotel restaurant. It was decent but overpriced even for Fort Lauderdale.
We walked our Ubered everywhere to avoid the $38 per night valet charge.
We stayed at the Sonesta in Hilton Head SC and loved it. Better service and cleaner overall.
Simply put: I look forward to our next visit to Fort Lauderdale but it won’t be at the Sonesta.

Over all good stay that started off with a few bumps in the road. Upon arrival we checked in and let the host know it was our anniversary and asked if there were any free upgrades or perks? He basically said no and told us he could charge us for an upgrade to the next tier room. We declined. While a business is not obligated to do anything outside of what you have paid for it is still a nice touch. Especially since we usually stay up the road at a different hotel that has it saved in their system when our anniversary is. When we arrive there they either do a free room upgrade, free breakfast for the entire stay, remove parking fees, or resort fees, or a combination of those perks. We could have easily gone there but decided to try someplace new.
It just so happened that our first night's stay was terrible due to noisy neighbors. I went down stairsthe next morning and spoke with Suzette and she provided excellent customer service. She upgraded our room to a junior suite and provided 2 free meal vouchers along with an apology. She saved the day and I would now definitely consider coming back.
Just added info. Parking is valet only for $38/day and there is a $35/day "resort fee" for 2 bottled waters, 2 welcome drink vouchers for your entire stay, use of beach chairs across the street, internet access, and something else I cant remember lol!

There are many positives about this hotel. It is directly across the street from the beach and the rooms have spectacular ocean views. I recommend requesting a room on one of the higher floors. The hotel provides two beach chairs free of charge and beach umbrellas for a nominal fee. Overall, the hotel is clean , quiet and well maintained. Staff are pleasant. The downside is that hotel amenities are sparse. There is no morning coffee in the lounge area and the room Keurig coffees were not replenished. No bottled water in the rooms. Housekeeping needed to be requested on a daily basis and was limited. There is no guest list of recommended restaurants or activities and no concierge service. There are no room movie rentals. While the beautiful beach and hotel cleanliness made this a positive experience, I'd suggest a few basic amenities to make guests more comfortable.

Staying in hotel. Service at front desk was cold and the lady was condescending when I asked for a higher floor or additional choices for rooms. We had booked a junior suite ocean view. Suite was just a longer bedroom, completely wasted foyer that had no furniture, carpet or decor (pics). Had view of ugly roof and powerlines on one side, (see pics). Lady at reception had a dismissive attitude when asking if she could accommodate us better. We had driven long hours to be there and my girlfriend couldn't believe her attitude. Food in room service was cold, had only a pepper shaker and 1 cup for an order of 2 though the gentleman who served as very nice. Room did not have any paintings or enough furniture for even a nightstand on both sides of bed. End of the day it's all subjective on $ but there were a lot of options in fort Lauderdale and even better locations and and this not worth any of the $ even at a discount. Oh and there's 40$ per night parking and 45$ hotel fee you can add with an attempt to be made up by a 2 drink voucher.

Thank you Surfinsoodly for sharing your experience as you continue your stay with us. It's never easy to read when a guest has had anything but a perfect stay. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience and it's apparent in this case that we fell short in many areas. I intend to share your comments about your In-Room Dining experience with my Food & Beverage team to make the necessary changes to the procedures that failed during your visit. Additionally, we will address the poor customer service on the part of our front desk agent - this type of behavior will not be tolerated. I am terribly sorry that you experience service far below our standards and reputation. I would embrace the opportunity to speak with you personally about your stay and encourage you to call me directly. I hope to have the chance to win you back and show you our best. Thank you for choosing to stay at Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach.

My daughter and I stayed for a 4 night get away. We were very happy with the hotel. The room was clean on arrival. We felt very safe traveling alone. At this time due to covid they are not cleaning rooms daily, however if you needed anything all you had to do was call the front desk and they would get it to you very quickly. We had a broken TV and it was replaced immediately. The beach access was directly across the street and had chairs reserved for the guests. We spent most of our time at the pool which was spotless and has food available poolside. Loved the view from our room each morning. We had a mix up with our Jet Blue trip and they worked with us on making it all work out. I would definitely visit this hotel again for location and for the service. Thanks to all for a great trip for my daughter and myself!
