In May 2015, I spent two short days on Cayo Costa and decided to paddle over to see the source of inspiration for the great Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger in Paradise song ... and return to Cayo, victoriously, with a cheeseburger and fries for my sister (who stayed in the cabin to read). As a newcomer to these waters, I don't...

Our staff were overjoyed to hear you enjoyed your lunchtime visit with us! We are sorry to hear about your being laid off, but will be very glad to see you again in December. We’ll have a hot, tasty burger ready and waiting!

My husband and I enjoyed our lunch overlooking the gorgeous view from the front porch of the restaurant. The food was tasty and satisfying and the service good. Our server Rebecca was friendly and helpful.

Rebecca is always happy to hear when her guests have a great time. Our little island has great scenic views, especially from atop the hill, where our Historic Restaurant resides. We hope to see you again in the near future, for more tasty food and excellent service!

My new wife and I took our honeymoon to Cabbage Key for 7 days. We stayed at the Osprey Cottage. The Osprey cottage was exactly what we were looking for. It was nestled on its own little cove with private dock. Our experience at Cabbage Key was one we will never forget and will be coming back. All of the...

Happy Honeymoon, and congratulations on your nuptials! We are all overjoyed to hear you enjoyed your stay, and special occasion, with us. The chef and kitchen staff were especially tickled to hear your praise of the meals they had prepared. We can’t wait to see you again, maybe for your next anniversary!

My wife and I and another couple took a cruise to Cabbage Key for the day from Sannibel. We had lunch at the Inn and our server Makyla was fantastic. She was very friendly, personable and attentive. We had our drinks right away and she took our order which came in a timely manner and kept checking in on us...

1. Rooms. Our 2-bedroom cottage was perfect. Simple but great A/C (!) and fully furnished with all necessary - including the kitchen. And our own dock for sunset margaritas & porpoise-watching. And surprisingly great value - less than the price of two motel rooms on the mainland! And free waterfront and island trails to walk and wander. 2. Restaurant. Food...

Thank you so much for such a detailed review! Everyone was thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay so much! We like to focus on letting our guests kick up their feet and “watch the boats go by”. Taking nothing away from it's natural beauty, which is free, if I could sit down with the Wells family, owners of this island, I would tell them they have a very beautiful home. . .but, then I would ask, do you have a coffee maker that takes less than 40 minutes to brew a pot, do your drains in the...

Little worse for the wear; docks old and tired; grounds nice and basic; restaurant unique and service attentive. Our second visit was flawless. The cuisine is above average but not gourmet quality IMHO. More on that in restaurant review.

You have to go to Cabbage Key or you've missed what it is to be in southwestern Florida. Great place, great food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dollar notes all around you, leave one with your message on it. Try the stone crabs in season, they are real good. The sauces taste like homemade. We will be back for...

We’re so pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit with us! About $70,000 dollars hangs on our walls at any given time, and every bill that falls is donated to various local charities, up to $10,000 each year! Stone Crab season is back until May, so get ‘em while they’re hot! …. I mean cold!

Amazing! Came in with my family and friends and had the best time. This was everyone's first time there and our server Christina took care of us and was a delight. Kristina was delighted to hear she was remembered! Every dollar that falls from our walls is donated to various local charities, sometimes over $10,000 a year! A lot of history resides in, and on, our walls. We hope you come back soon to enjoy more of our delicious fare, and explore the history of Cabbage Key!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cabbage Key is a 100 acre island located five miles off of Pine Island, FL in the Pine Island Sound. The Inn, built in the 1940's by the family of Mary Roberts Rinehart, now houses our famous Restaurant & Dollar Bill Bar and six guest rooms. The rooms in the Inn are all different with old Florida charm - they do not have TVs, phones, or refrigerators. We have seven cottages on the island, ranging from a 1 bedroom/1 bath cottage to 3 bedroom/3 bath waterfront units. All cottages have refrigerators, televisions (no cable) and coffee makers, some units have full kitchens. Our restaurant is open seven days a week and serves breakfast, lunch & dinner. If you want to relax on a beach...we do not have one here. But, Cayo Costa is a close kayak or boat ride away. This is a great retreat to discover "Old Florida", relax with a book, fish from our docks & watch the boats go by. ... more   less
