Very nice country pub. What one really needs when doing the Coast to Coast is good food (yes) comfortable bed(yes) Value for money(yes). Peace and quiet for a good nights sleep (No) (The premises could do with sound proofing). The last thing that is needed is to be able to hear the locals talking very loudly until 2.30 in the...

A wonderful friendly family run Inn -good food. Easy access to the most beautiful parts of the Lake District. Charming little Church. With a mild peal nearby. Ask for double bed if required. Getting therre from Penrith may be difficult, but asking friendly people how to get there makes it interesting.Parking your car with one door against the opposite wall...

Four of us popped in yesterday for lunch. Very friendly landlord, great beer and food and a relaxed atmosphere. What more could you ask. We will return sooner rather than later as the area is lovely and there's plenty on the menu to try yet!

Although the welcome was not as warm as expected and we felt a little like we were in the way, the place was cosy and comfortable. The place was next to the village church that chimed its bells all night every 15 mins so I would suggest ear plugs for any light sleepers. The breakfast was very good and set...

When staying in a cottage at Great Salkeld, we found this village pub, very friendly and the food is excellent. You must try the Steak Pie ,and the Fruit Crumble that comes with ice cream and custard. We went in on three occiasions.

The welcome on arrival was particularly warm and we were made to feel very welcome, the rooms are modern, clean and contort able withe a particularly good en suite. Food was Fresh and very good, though the selection for vegetarians was limited. Wifi was intermittent and rather slow.

A most convivial and obliging host providing a good variety of food and comfortable accommodation. Unfortunately stairs to rooms and restaurant could be awkward for the less mobile. On street parking on a quiet road available.

We stayed for one night and we couldn't have asked for anything better. The rooms were clean, spacious and extremely comfortable. The owners were so friendly and accommodating. I think I even had the best gin and tonic I've ever tasted (ask the landlord and he'll make it you!) The breakfast was delicious and nothing was too much trouble. My...

What a great country pub. Really laid back friendly atmosphere. Dine upstairs in a very tastefully designed restaurant, with terrace views to the surrounding countryside or downstairs if you prefer. Plenty areas to sit, chat and enjoy a drink with friends, in the traditional way, sadly lost in many establishments these days. Great food and not overpriced. Clean well maintained...

We didn't stay but ate here twice during a weeks self catering in the village, The food is excellent and we will certainly eat here next time we're in the area. Saturday night was very busy and the staff were pushed to the limit and coped well. We went back on the last night of our break (Friday) and were...
