We stayed here on our way back from Maine to Virginia and this hotel did what we needed it to. We had a nice, clean room, a big bed, and a nice TV. Breakfast in the morning was great, but it was very hot in the breakfast room. The pool was getting remodeled while we were there, which wasn't a big deal for us, but some folks may be upset by that, so FYI.
Stayed here Friday night and Connor was incredible! Ive stayed in many different hotels and he was by far the best employee I've ever worked with. He was able to read what we needed and do this with professionalism and kindness.
Stayed here while visiting my grandson playing baseball at University of New Haven. Clean and friendly place to stay with free parking. Free breakfast was good and front desk personnel were friendly and accommodating. I will stay here again.
The place looks and feels great. All of the staff members I interacted with were very nice and helpful. My only setback was when I walked into my room I thought I smelled a smoke smell. I went back to the front desk to ask for a non-smoking room and was told the entire hotel was non-smoking. The front desk attendant gave me a new room quickly and was very apologetic. I went to the new room and it had the same odor. It wasn't offensive or overwhelming but just enough to notice. Otherwise, the place was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was mostly premade sandwiches but such is COVID. The energy and professionalism of the attendant of the breakfast area far made up for any missing breakfast items of hotel breakfast past.
I have stayed at this property multiple times since 2019. It is not as nice as the Courtyard across the street but - usually - slightly better value for money. I had a stay of twelve (12) nights this time. On the 11th night, thieves cut the catalytic converter out of my car, which was parked in the lighted hotel parking lot. Upon discovering this had happened, I paid the $550 for an off-market replacement (dealer part was $1500), taking time off work to: (a) discover and figure out the problem and (b) find a place to do the repair. When originally notified, the hotel staff on duty said the hotel is not liable for property damage to cars (per a posted sign on the parking lot). The property also doesn’t have cameras nor a large number of lights so - clearly - this property is not interested in monitoring the lot on behalf of its guests to keep them and their cars safe. As a Bonvoy Ambassador level guest with >170 nights this year alone, I asked the front desk staff to have Jennifer - property manager - contact me to discuss. Jennifer called the following day and said that I would need to file a police report so she could then file an insurance claim etc. on her side. Curiously, she did not seem terribly apologetic that this had occurred. Her emphasis, instead, was that she needed “proof” the incident had occurred and I must file a police report. I explained to her that not only did I have the $550 invoice plus date stamped photos but that - after spending my own time off work to get my car fixed yesterday - I wasn’t going to spend additional personal time filing a police report so she could then spend weeks working on it with their insurer to see if there was some compensation Marriott may offer. I asked for her to simply credit 2 nights off my stay (approximately $220) - less than 50% of the money I paid to repair my car's damage. This request - again - on the back of a twelve (12) night stay that I was just wrapping up seemed fairly reasonable to me and something that Jennifer should have in her approval as Property Manager. Instead, she said she didn’t think that was possible and it would require her to speak to her regional manager. I haven’t heard back which means, I suspect, she will not do anything. So, a few thoughts on this property: I strongly urge you not to stay here if you have any worries about car damage or safety. I don't drive an expensive car (Acura) so it is not like thieves targeted a Mercedes Benz or other high end vehicle. Without cameras or security, your car is not safe as I have discovered. There are some lights in the parking lot but it is relatively dark in many places. The property - when incidents occur - is not interested in solving a situation for a customer (even someone who has stayed for 12 nights in a row and multiple times prior) Jennifer has no interest in actually handling customer issues, even as Manager of the property. Before contacting me about this issue, she hadn’t bothered to check how many times I’ve stayed at the property before, how many nights I’ve stayed at Marriott in this year alone, etc. It would seem to me logical for her to see if I am just someone random off the street or someone that comes to Wallingford often. She seems to have no understanding of word of mouth impact that will occur when I share with associates who are also in Wallingford for business that car damage occurs in the property's lot. Her most customer forward comment to me was that she had 'signed the birthday card that was handed to me at check in’. But when issues arise, instead of solving the problem, she punted to the regional manager. In sum, I would strongly advise not staying at this property if you have any concerns about damage to / theft from your car and are not comfortable walking at night by yourself. Per the shop that replaced my catalytic converter, several incidents have occurred in this area in past weeks with converters and other car parts.…
This may be the cleanest room we have ever had in a mid-priced hotel. Corner-clean. Breakfast had a nice variety. And the staff was friendly and helpful. We were on a one-night stopover, but will be back to stay and explore the area. We highly recommend this hotel.
Pretty standard Fairfield Inn. Rooms were fine. They're large, clean and didn't smell like smoke. Breakfast 8n the morning has some good sandwich options. Just wish there was a bar or restaurant within walking distance. There isn't a ton to do in the area
I stay frequently in Marriott-branded hotels, including Fairfields, and this place is not up to par. I'm getting a sense they are really struggling with the labor shortage, as I only saw two staff the entire time I was there, but it's really letting the hotel fall into a sad state. Staff at the desk who checked me in was very friendly and easy to deal with. I'll throw a star in for that. My first room smelled like smoke. Asked to get a different room and was accommodated. This one was on the back side near the parking lot though, and when a car that was backed in outside my window was started, the A/C drew the exhaust fumes into the room. Couldn't win. Bathroom wasn't particularly clean. Shower caulk was cracking and moldy and there were hairs left from someone shaving on the back of the shower wall. Breakfast was disappointing even by COVID-era standards. There was bacon and eggs and yogurts, but no bagles/toast/pastries/etc. I'd look somewhere else.…
We booked a room at Fairfield by Marriott Wallingford in July, 2021 for a one-night stay in October (via a travel website). We received a confirmation e-mail in July. As we were preparing for our weekend, we received an e-mail from Fairfield that they had overbooked and could not honor our reservation. Over an hour on the phone with their representative to be told that all other comperable hotels in the area are booked as there is an event scheduled in town (which is why we booked in July as we also have expensive tickets for the big event). The customer service response was worthless and a wast of time. As a result of this ridiculous episode, we will avoid any Marriott property at any location for our future travels needs. Book at Fairfield Marriott at your own risk!
This hotel is far from Marriott quality, it needs some TLC and fast: Green Pool- the pool was closed, water was dark green. Yuck. Staff told us the manager has refused to fix the pool until further notice. The Room- smelly and dank, like a basement, due to a dripping air conditioner. Security- all doors are unlocked and broken. Anyone, at any time, can freely walk in and out of the back and side doors of the hotel, no key is needed. Sanitization- non-existent. On-site convenience store- a sad excuse for a standard hotel store, almost nothing available. I've been to several hotels lately, their stores are fully stocked, so there is no excuse.
