We are Ct residents and Nelson’s is our go to campground in the summer. We are mid week visitors, prefer less commotion. Ironically we are in G10, same as reviewer below. G section mostly seasonals as 80 per cent of the park appears to be. We did not experience acorn bombs or annoying squirrels. We did find the previous visitors left trash , banana peels and bottle caps in the fireplace. It’s annoying that most leave a mess. Staff could clean after one leaves but the campers should help. Nice peaceful mid week stay with all the amenities that we require. Will return next month in G12.

Stayed there a week in G10. Acorn tree right above and permanent campers across on whole row and most of park. Acorns constantly falling and morning squirrels make them worse. About 5:30 am in summer they will wake you up. BEWARE. The park is full of permanent campers who leave during work week. They have family and children's events planned all weekend if you have...mine are grown.

In my experience visiting this campground for the 1st time ever I’ll have to say, I was at first impressed with the view as I’m driving along the lake with y son and his nephew. As I enter the campground and make contact with premises registering office, the 2 ladies at the counter were polite but a little on the rough edges. I immediately felt a bit disturbed on how the older lady was engaging with when she asked me who I was visiting. I provided the info. And requested. At that point the lady (don’t recall her name at this time), but certainly I’ll this much. As she’s talking to me, immediately after getting knowledge of the party (the family who initially registered to stay at the campsite she advised me I can’t stay after telling her I had a party total of 3 people with me. She once again asked me the name of the family I will be visiting, and if it would be for 1 day or I will be staying over for the evening. Twice I was ask the same question and twice the same consistent response was given. At this point she went into a filing drawer or cabinet, and pulled out the file of the registered family I was going to visit. Her response was “NO! You can’t come in because the party has exceeding its limitation of guest for today.” My response “no problem” It’ll be some other time where I can bring my minor child and him and I can possibly rent one of your campers on site.” I ask for prices and requested a business card at this time and expreses my gratitud and exited the office. At this point I’m headed to pick up my minor child from the campsite where my son was already part taking with friends and family already there. On my way to getting my son I come across a friend, family that we’re on there way to register to part take from the birthday gathering (parry of 2 people). At this time I took the liberty of advising my friend not to go register cause they have exceeded the number of invites for the day (4 people). So my friend and I decide to go back and meet at the parking lot where my vehicle happens to be parked at the time while I go ahead and get my minor child from the campsite. We were immediately approached by this burgundy SUV (female driver). This is how the person initiated her interaction with me. “Hey you! You need to leave the premises now!” At this time I was very puzzled on how this person was talking to me and the demeanor she chose to ádrese the issue. She seems vet upset, demanding for me to leave and very persisten in her tone as well. I was able to capture her attention to try to deescalate the situation where I wasn’t aware there was any issues at the time. We were ready to leave but first I needed to pick up my child. I was not going to leave without my child and I communicated this to so called “ one of the owner” as she identified herself during our very short engagement. She took the liberty to engage in a very disrespectful and demeaning manner especially coming from so called “one of the property owner.” Temí g me I need to leave the premises NOW!!! That I told to leave at the office and I didn’t so. At this time it had not been not even 5 min. fri the time I left with office and mind you without incident. What happened from the time I walked out the office and now walking towards my vehicle it’s beyond me at this. I continue to be respectful and a gentlemen with the so called “one of the owners.” Where once again I impressed upon her I needed to pick up my minor child but my friend was not answering his phone after we’ve tried numerous of times even the office tried to get a hold of him. At this time she was livid. Yelling at me that su needed to leave. Again I’m trying to make sense what’s happening here and what I possibly said or did to set her off. I managed to say to her “ ma’am, there’s a right and wrong way of doing things and how to communicate with people, but how your choosing to communicate with me it’s a bit disrespectful and rude.” What send to be the issue here. “We’re living and we gather that might that want us to leave, but my son is still at the campground and I need to get him. She said. “No! You will get him, you will stay where you are, and call your friend to bring him to you.” At this point I see she’s not understanding and continued to adamant in her position and said “ I will call Greg!” Who this Greg guy is, don’t know, but we continued to wait and at this time I sent my friend’s son to get my friend to make contact with him and bring my son. While we’re waiting in the parking area, this Greg shows up, makes contact with the rude “Karen” and carried on a brief conversation. While they are doing so, I managed to get Greg’s attention by saying “Sir can I have a conversation with you?” Greg’s response was “YOU MEDD TI LEAVE TBR PREMISES NOW AND GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FTOM. YOUR NOT WELCOMED HERE!” At this time the whole situation took a complete turn making matters worse from insult to injury by insulting me and my friend by suggesting I didn’t belong in the United States. I asked what exactly did he mean by that, but Greg continues to stress by saying “I DONT KNOW WHERE YOU FROM OR WHERE YOU CAME FROM BUT YIU NEED TI GO BACK TO WHERE YOU FROM!” My response at this time was “ it’s a shame you talk to me in this matter, to a person who’s fought for this country, your freedom .” I’m not going anywhere” I’m from here no different from you.” At this point he stopped engaging with me and they left to make contact with the party I was initially there to visit. I left with no further incident, but I’ll have to say this. This is what we’re currently experiencing in our nation. Something I’ve never experienced in my life not even living and or being stationed overseas in foreign countries fighting for my country with the U.S Navy. I’m completely uphold on the matter I was treated here at home, here in the United States. This is completely uncalled for and disgusting how these folks behaved. No honor, no respect for services men and women whom served our country 🇺🇸

Hi im Rachel and I am a seasonal at Nelsons. Let me tell you this. This is very loud campground with many different kids here and as long with teens. I hang out with all my fiends all weekend long. I have been here for 11 years and have had the ups and down about this campground. Yes there are the bad things that happen up here but the staff and owners take care of that for you. I started off coming on here and looking and thinking everyone would of loved it, but no that did not happen. So thats why im here to tell you all haters about this amazing place that I call my 2nd home. This campground has changed me as a person, kid, teen. I have the best of best friends. Now yes we all might have a small problem that only takes a weekend to fix for us. After all the fights that I have had I always go back and say sorry that u didnt get these great ass memories that we have made and many more to come. As I say this for all of us u cant jugde a place that u have gone to for the weekend or even the month. Come and on here and say what ever u want because we know thats not true. If it wasnt for the friends I have made over the years I wouldnt be here today. This campground has made me see something. Its that when new friends leave its because of them not u. I myself have and still have friend problems here. But we all hang out because if u dont u will be alone. The whole reason my mom and dad has not left his campground once was because me Rachel,Alyssa my sister, and Tyler my brother. If my family ever tried to take this amazing wonderful place i will fight to stay. This year 2020 has been a hard year for us and them. But they never let us down. Now yes if u came this year most of everything is closed. They dont have a choice to do this. But yes why some of you are mad because he pool you have to sign up for thats for our goods. When everything is open come again and see again. There are activits for younger kids, not so much teens. But thats why you need friends up here or not friends just people to hang out with. I will stand my ground if anyone has something to say because please lets see this go down. Someone who went for a weekend or a few or even a month try staying for 11 years. This is my 2nd home and wish to never have to leave. I love this place very much with all my heart and no one will ever change that. I know I will always come back and when im grown up and have kids I will be sure to come back here so my kids can see where there mother grew up. My friends and I are the best. But please dont look at the bad ones look at this one or the other good ones. This will be my forever campground that I love and care for so much.

We called Thursday the night before and ask about any specific camper/tent rules because we was planning to take all the kids. We were assured that the bathrooms & showers were accessible during the day as well as a tent set up for the kids only to sleep in was totally ok. We arrive Friday night and setup shop. No issues... Saturday came the issues Saturday morning no access to bathrooms until almost 9am and NO showers available. No activities for the kids and the pool "reservation only" was booked in advance by other campers. Also Saturday the owner drives by yelling something at me from her car. At the time I was not aware who she was and couldn't make out what she was yelling. I approached her car and she yelled for me to take down the kids tent now because tents are NOT allowed. I apologized and mentioned that I called Thursday before arriving and was told the tent for the kids was fine and she then yelled stating shes the owner and that its my problem to check their website before camping. I apologized again and agreed to take it down immediately but she didnt even seem happy with us being there at all and continued to yell and babble about being one if the owners.. Nelsons Campground should be renamed Nelsons Retirement Home because it's now looking more like a nursing home than a campground. After that we felt so uncomfortable and not welcomed i didnt even sleep Saturday night.. Never again.

The grounds are nice and staff was friendly. However, it is very loud at night. Campers here do not abide by quiet hours and staff do not seem to make rounds to enforce. There were kids screaming and running around and parents screaming into the wee hours of of the night; well past quiet hours off 11pm on weekends.

Stayed a month because daughter and grandkids have seasonal spot and we’re visiting from Indiana. Our site is weedy, not level, and has no privacy, and in full sun. Right across the road from us is a motor home maintenance and repair garage. There is welding, drilling and banging all day long, so no quiet camping. Also all the lots have tons of ant hills, which means my dog can’t lay outside without getting ant bites. We set our own ant kill traps outside our screened tent. The pool and playground are nice for kids. No showers or restroom near the T section. The T sites are the only ones with sewer. Lots of potholes in town still not fixed and it’s almost July, so driving is bumpy in town.

We were visitors to weekend campers with a full hookup site near the pond. The makeshift entry procedure was entirely too long, unorganized and unprofessional. There was no direction from the staff about where to park and no signage about the $16 entry fee when you pulled up. There was a line of cars behind us blocking the street in both directions. I cant imagine what a headache this is for locals! We were also not informed of the fact that there was a locked gate that blocked entry to get to the "road" to the site we were visiting. You needed a swipe card and apparently the $16 entry fee didn't include one?! Bizarre. We parked on a grassy hill and lugged all of our very heavy things quite a ways because we couldn't park close enough to the site we visited to unload conveniently. Once we settled in, we realized how very crowded and uncontrolled things really were at this particular campground. Children seemed to be allowed to run amok and I never saw one staff member the entire 8 hours we were there. You would think they would do periodic tours of the grounds to ensure quiet enjoyment for all. I was wrong. We won't be back. It's a zoo.

Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 9 nights in a site for big rigs, site G7. The Good…. If you desire privacy, request a site in an area (for example area G) with the full time residents as these sites are large and offer lots of privacy from your neighbor. The residents occupy most of the sites here so this is a very quiet park when summer ends. If you have a dog there is ample area to walk. The laundry facility is clean and equipped with modern washers and dryers. There’s even a wall mounted TV to watch! The Bad….. If the office gives you a site in the area with the overnighter’s the sites offer no privacy and no shade trees. In the full-timer areas satellite reception is doubtful due to the amount of trees. Not sure about Satellite reception in the overnight sites, but there’s certainly no immediate trees to interfere. We walked the entire park and noticed that almost every overnight site was not level, lacked gravel, and most were located on grass pads. The sites in our area (G) were also not level…all tires on the drivers-side of our coach were off the ground, plus it was a mud-pit because it lacked gravel. Big coaches need a gravel pad and this park lacks gravel on the pads. Definitely would be a big improvement if gravel was added to the sites. Is it that hard to put a little gravel down on the dirt? This park has a third party (FastWaveNetwork) that offers wifi…. but it’s garbage. We paid $8 per-day for the streaming package. Half the time it didn’t work, also couldn’t view an entire show without it pausing 3 to 6 times. With our Wifi-Ranger there was no way to achieve direct line-of-sight to the source due to the amount of trees. The office did tell us the third party was having a problem with their equipment however NINE days is not acceptable. Don’t know how streaming works in the overnight sites. Bottom-line; if you’re looking to stay at a quiet and clean park where you can sit outside and relax… go here. We enjoyed our stay, however because of the un-level sites, lack of gravel, and horrible wifi, we wouldn’t stay here again.

For people with any of the discount camping plans BEWARE! We reserved our spot in August 2018 through our Passport America plan for a 2 night stay after the Labor Day holiday. The bulk of vacationers are gone at this time. There are 200 spots on this 175 acre campground of which less than half were occupied upon our arrival. As you will see from the photo, our site was totally unacceptable. We were put in section "T" across from the Service Bays, the RV displays, the Fireplace Ash dumping ground and the RV storage, basically off the campground. Great view don't you think! To make matters worse the ground crew started mowing the lawn at 8:30 this morning, very inconsiderate. There were plenty of grassy areas in the unoccupied parts he could have started with instead of disturbing our breakfast with repeated passes over the same areas on either side of our trailer. I finally made my displeasure known and he went to a different part of the campground. In closing I would not recommend this campground to anyone using Passport America, AARP, or any other discount plan. You will not be treated fairly. One would think that any money coming in at the end of the season, regardless of amount would be welcomed and appreciated. This is apparently not the case here.
