The site makes it seem like it's in a picturesque country setting when in fact it is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. I included one of the views below. I was traveling alone as a younger female and instead of trying to make me feel comfortable the owner was nasty and snarky to me. He was also very creepy and inappropriate and I kept myself locked in my room the entire time I was in the hotel because I did not feel safe with him around. The decor was country, and not in a good way, kind of like the owner. This has been the worst hotel stay I have had and I won't be back.
We arrived at 6:30 PM. I was expecting an exceptional room for over$200.There was No host around. Some ladies having a party invited us to join them. I called the desk number and a young gal, appeared from one of the rooms, totally disheveled. We had clearly interrupted her evening plan. She showed us to a room which was on the 2nd floor and we observed no bathroom. She showed us the "shared" bathroom down the hall down ,2 steps and around the corner. We are 75 year old couple and need to use the bathroom at night. This was totally unsafe and inappropriate for us to consider. I asked if we could have a refund and she indicated the policy was no refund on day of booking. We left as we were not going to try to spend an uncomfortable night in a house that wasn't safe for us . If they were booking a girls B day party they certainly should not have booked an older couple as the noise was also a problem.…
A B&B we had booked for a long time called and canceled because of water problems. We found Bevin House and so glad this happened. Dean the owner and Kristina the host provided the ultimate stay. This was an exceptional experience in a restored Victorian home in a wooded area. Their hospitality was above great. Our room was spacious and overlooked everything as we were on the third floor-34 steps. Morning breakfast was delicious. Conversation about the history of the home added immensely to the experience. Also was greeted by the goats and duck at the barn in the morning. Would love to go there again. One of the best we have ever been in.
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Bevin House Bed and Breakfast in East Hampton, CT. This stunning 1872 Victorian mansion has been recently restored to its former glory. It’s in impeccable condition, inside and out. The owner, Dean, put a tremendous effort into furnishing every room with 19th century furniture. Obviously a labor of love. If you go to the Bevin House webpage you can see photos of the house and many of its rooms. You can also read about the history of the place. Staying in the house made us feel as if we had stepped back in time. Everything in our room was in perfect condition. The bed was large and comfortable. The furniture was in excellent condition for its age. Only the bathroom has been modernized. The Bevin House also has wifi, which is something that obviously didn’t exist in the 19th century. My favorite room was the library. I won’t try to describe it. You have to see it to believe it. Dean was a thoughtful and friendly host. He gave us a tour of the house and told us a lot about its history. In the morning he made us a large gourmet breakfast. He has a large swimming pool but it was covered because of the winter weather. We will be tempted to book a room there again in the summer. He even has a barn and two goats. I highly recommend the Bevin House.…
fantastic restoration job on a magnificent house..furnished well complete with a terrific porch , pool and yard. Also worth mentioning the updated bathrooms, heating and cooling ..a nice surprise vs some B&B's .Very nice host with some good stories and a great breakfast Was not familiar with East Hampton...it is a nice little town with some excellent hiking/riding options .Would highly recommend staying at the Bevin House. If you are a Wesleyan parent ,the Bevin House is a fantastic option that is a quick and easy drive to and from campus and a significant step above the vast majority of options in Middletown.
The Bevin House has been lovingly brought back to its 1872 glory. An architectural gem with period perfect details throughout, you feel like you are stepping into the Gilded Age. The owner is hands-on, having remodeled the place himself, and attention to detail is shown with a craftsman's touch. Very comfortable bed, gorgeous bathroom with tasteful and elegant modern features, and an all-around lovely vibe. Top that off with a gourmet breakfast and delightful conversation with our host, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish.
I grew up in East Hampton, CT and always loved walking past this beautiful old victorian home that has recently been turned into a Bed and Breakfast. I stayed at the Bevin House this past January and was so impressed with the renovations and learned more about the rich history of the home. East Hampton is nicknamed Belltown because of the bell manufacturing that started with the Bevin Family. The B&B is clean and comfortable and the breakfast that was prepared by the assistant innkeeper was delicious and cooked to order. I highly recommend you treat yourself to a stay at this B&B if your travels take you to this part of CT.
The Bevin House is perfect if you are looking for a quiet New England getaway. The grounds are well-kept and the house is nicely decorated. However, we would caution those who are considering renting out the Bevin House for an event. In September of 2018, we spoke with the then-innkeeper about renting out the House the weekend of our wedding (in August 2019). We explained to her that we would be the only two people staying at the Bevin House for the weekend, but that we wanted our entire bridal party to get ready with us at the house. We gave her the exact number of people that would be joining us and we made clear that we wanted to provide a meal and drinks for the bridal party as everyone got ready. We also told her of our plans to take some pictures at the House. She told us that we could definitely reserve the House for this purpose and that all we had to do was book all of the rooms for our wedding weekend. She even said that, as they had done with past events, the Bevin House would be happy to provide some food for our bridal party (though we did not take her up on this offer) and that the staff would help to take care of our party while they were visiting. On our wedding day, everything seemed to go off without a hitch. Our bridal party came to get ready with us for 6 hours at the Bevin House. We provided sushi from a restaurant nearby and we even asked our bridal party to eat on the back porch to avoid any mess. We brought coolers of drinks, which we also left out on the porch for our family. As the day went on, my then-fiancé and my mother spent some time cleaning up plates and cups that were left out by our bridal party, as we are people who pride ourselves on cleanliness and respect. And every time they tried to clean, the innkeeper told them not to worry about it. We did not notice anything out-of-order before we left and our bridal party said they believed the house was left in pretty clean condition when they went to the ceremony, aside from a few plastic champagne glasses that were left on a table. The next morning, when my husband woke up and went downstairs, the owner angrily reprimanded him for overwhelming the innkeeper (without even congratulating him or acknowledging our wedding). The owner said our family was messy and the innkeeper shouldn't have had to clean up after them. He said that when the Bevin House host events such as ours, they charge a higher price to account for the cleanup costs. This was very bizarre because no one mentioned this higher price when we explained to them our exact purpose for renting out the house. For what it's worth, we paid over $1,000 for all the rooms when we were the only ones to sleep at the house. So, while the innkeeper may have had to clean up a bit from our family's meal (which was alleviated by help from my fiancé and mother), she didn't have to remake beds or linens in 4 out of the 5 rooms. And, not to mention, we probably would have even paid the higher price had we been asked when we spoke to the Bevin House the year before our wedding. The owner was the first person we saw the morning after our wedding and he made us feel incredibly uncomfortable. We got together all of our things and ran out of the house as fast as possible, even giving the innkeeper an extra $200 tip. This is not what you want to wake up to the day after your wedding and it all could have been resolved had they been as transparent with us from the outset as we were with them. We would caution anyone considering hosting an event, and especially as important an event as ours, at the Bevin House for these reasons.…
Our stay was amazing! The house is lovely and beautifully maintained. The owner paid so much attention to detail in both the property and in his guests. The breakfast is absolutely amazing and wonderfully presented. The B&B sits in a quaint small town, with wonderful restaurants within walking distance which we found perfect.
This B and B is in a rural area and is worth every minute of the drive. From the goats who love affection (one even came out and looked mournfully at us while we had wine, cheese, and crackers on the porch... maybe it was the cheese, though) to the remarkable breakfast (maybe gained a pound or two after two days of those breakfasts), this place was wonderful. The two people who run the place are so very nice and very proud of their home. Go for it!
