Chimney Crest, a brick Tudor built in 1930, brings one back to the days of the industrial elite who built beautifully crafted and stately residences to celebrate success and project wealth. As current owner and B&B proprietor, Dante, explained, the house was built for manufacturing titan Henry Barnes, who together with his brother, operated the world’s largest manufacturer of springs. Thirty years later, the estate served as the dormitory for a now defunct boy’s preparatory school – Laurel Crest Academy. Dante shared fascinating fifty year-old yearbooks over breakfast. He was gracious and giving, an understated host set against a monumental backdrop. We stayed in the Master Suite, which was perfect for my husband, adult son, and me. Dante explained that this was the home’s original master bedroom. The suite’s sitting room with daybed (and free wifi) is perfect for a child, affording them privacy from parents. I especially loved the bedroom’s curved window bench and the original jade colored tile in the ensuite bathroom. Our stay was a brief one night, but even in that short time, we left Chimney Crest feeling rested and restored. The home was peaceful, unlike its likely boisterous past. As we drove off the grounds, my twenty-two year old son remarked how much he enjoyed the stay, due to the mansion’s magnificence and proprietor’s kindness.

I usually write reviews to support a superior experience. In a few circumstances, I write a review because my experience differed significantly from prior reviews. With so many five star ratings, my expectations for my stay at Chimney Crest Manor were high. The first clue that something was not quite right was the weed infested entrance. While the interior was tidy and somewhat clean, the furnishings are tired and worn out- think 1970's shag carpet and sheets that have lost their finish. The breakfast was unremarkable and every item could easily be found on a grocery store shelf, This lodging might have been acceptable if the price was lower. For this price, my standards are much higher based on prior experiences at other bed and breakfast inns.

We stayed in a perfect suite overlooking the valley. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable, the grounds were just beautiful, the common areas were welcoming, the breakfast, made by Dan, was absolutely delicious. When we travel we love properties such as this with real character and history. We have stayed in many nice hotels and Bed and Breakfasts, but there are few that we would go out of our way to revisit. Chimney Crest Manor is definitely one where we look forward to returning in the future. Thank you so much Dan, for the lovely visit and conversation.

My husband & I visited here a little before Halloween. The leaves were changing, the air was crisp, the town is the adorable, & the B & B just amazing! The fireplace in our room, the woodwork throughout the house, & all of the details made this the perfect weekend away!

staying at B & B's is something new to my wife and I,. She has just retired and we are getting some time to relax and spread out. Not knowing exactely what to look for we are dependant on reviews by others, but we are finding out that some cannot be trusted. Depending on the mood of the traveler the review can be very nasty and there is no reason for it. Our stay at the Chimney Crest Manor was one of the greatest times we have had in our life time. Dan and Cynthia really do all they can to make your stay as nice as humanly possible. Everything was clean, food was delicious, beautiful fireworks (thunder storm) If ever in the area or even close, stay here if you want a good stay. Remember it is not the RITZ it is a restored beautiful mansion, with all the beautiful furniture and art and decor of the times. We will be back and we will recommend it to all our friends. Thank You Dan and Cynthia OH YES they give you cookies and chocolate and fruit in the room and coffee and cookies in the sun room.

You would never know it was there, but when you get there you wonder how you could miss it. Even if the rooms weren't as homey and comfortable as they were or the owners weren't some of the nicest people I would still go back for the breakfast! We were the only guests for the two nights we stayed and we were upgraded to a larger room - probably unnecessary as all the rooms looked very inviting. The common areas were notable. A sunroom to drink tea or coffee, a library with games, an elegant dining room for breakfast and if you just wanted to hang out in your room they had a huge basket of DVD's to borrow.

We stayed one night on a weekend foliage tour of New England. This B&B is in a very unique large brick Tudor-like house. You drive through the gate into the circular drive and are immediately impressed. The lobby and staircase have beautiful original woodwork and the large common areas have interesting architectural features. Our room was nicely decorated and faced the back of the property with a fantastic view of the valley which was particularly beautiful in late October. The room faced East so you experience sunrise over the mountain if you are an early riser. The house was built in the 1930's and appears all original and well kept. Our hosts, Cynthia and Dan, warmly greeted us and supplied a delicious full breakfast in their large formal dining room. We enjoyed our stay in this one of a kind property and hope to come again.

My husband & I stayed for a long getaway weekend to enjoy the fall foliage and relax. The inn was the perfect spot for our getaway. It is housed in an absolutely beautiful old mansion that is in excellent condition. The rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable. Cynthia and Dan, the owners, couldn't have been nicer. Not only did Cynthia prepare a delicious breakfast for us each morning, but she was very friendly and offered great suggestions for things to do in the area that were perfect for our interests. Definitely recommend this inn and would go back if we're ever in the area again.
