We went in September when the weather was very hot mostly! Vale is a ski resort so I guess hiking is best left to a more temperate time of year. We didn't like Vale so much as Breckenridge - Vale is a bit of a Disney-esque German skiing town. Pretty but we much preferred the more honest American style.
