Paint is peeling everywhere. No TV or City guide in room. No hot water. Dirt and lime scum in corners. Sound of water running all night. Cannot adjust any climate control as it turns off automatically. This is a "do not stay" Hotel. I will say, staff was apologetic. Piano entertainment good. No TV guide an difficult to operate. When I called front desk and asked how to operate TV, she said she would send a maintenance person. I asked for a manual or guide and she said the maintenance person could help. We are both in the industry and this hotel Should be a 2 star based on the condition of the room. So sorry that a Marriott is in this condition.
Afternoon tea with one of our close friends is a tradition, and we hadn't yet been here...we had such a great experience! Tea is served right inside the main entrance in the atrium. We loved being able to see all the neat architecture from this vantage point! Service was excellent, and all staff were very knowledgeable about the menu items. We chose The Brown Palace Signature Tea, which comes with three different pots of tea (continuously refilled) served with homemade scones, Devonshire cream, preserves, finger sandwiches, and classic tea pastries (petit fours, etc.). The three teas we chose were the Peach Blossom, Masala Chai, and Peppermint. All were delicious, but my favorite was the Masala Chai! All the food items were delicious as well. We're hoping to come back soon to try some of the other dining options at The Brown Palace. It's definitely on the pricey end, but well worth it!…
I dropped by the coffee shop here to meet a colleague - what a lobby! The coffee shop was great, but I wish that I had the time to experience the full afternoon tea service as it looked amazing! I cannot wait to return when I have more time.
Great, nostalgic, period “Downton Abbey” feel hotel. But with some not so easy picked out caveats. First the great. Again, great, period, nostalgic, early 1900s “grand hotel.” Beautiful center vestibule, internal dining, spa, and workout options. Grand hotel style rooms, well decorated according to the period. A real “Somewhere In Time” step back into the past. Beautiful railings, marble, and sitting areas everywhere. Doorman, porters, concierge, tea time hostess, quaint little coffee shop, real early 1900s style tea times… the works. Beautiful marble bathroom. Nice king sized bed. Now for the not so easily seen. These little details added up to subtract from the stay. January, and the hotel was quite drafty. Older heating and air conditioning. Downstairs was actually cold at times (60° or less?!) and that included all areas of downstairs and the little boutique restaurants. (Even so, The Palace Arms was top notch. Expect both Ruth’s Chris or higher prices, but also quality of food, service, and boutique 1900s atmosphere. Quite possibly the best Caesar salad I’ve ever had, prepared from scratch right in front of us.) More details: No bathtub (in our style room), the shower leaked (glass door on the hinge side wasn’t sealed), no microwave in room, and the drapes didn’t work very well. Aside from the Palace Arms, some of the food wasn’t hot. The worst of it was no atmospheric controls. Apparently about 80 rooms are that way. So we had to get an engineer into the room to adjust the heat manually. After about 3 tries, someone got it just right. You could consider this an intrusion. Or you could see it as part of the 1900s “feel” of the hotel, depending on how you want to look at it. :-) Overall, if not for the little details that we’re missing (in spite of a lot of little details that contributed to the feel), this ended up being a 3.5/5 experience instead of a 4.5/5. The gym (shared with Holiday Inn Express across the sky bridge on the 2nd Floor) was well equipped but crammed. Could get tight with more than 5-6 people.…
Wow! That was a special experience of a lifetime. No complaints- just lots of compliments. Whoever is running the show knows what they are doing as I haven’t seen staff morale so consistently high anywhere. The food was terrific as well at the High Tea (scones and lemon butter to die for) and the Ships Tavern (best fish and chips ever). You would think in a hotel 130 years old, the rooms would be small and dated but quite the opposite with modern conveniences and luxurious robes. Superb all around! My only complaint is no ghost sightings 😙
As a belated birthday celebration, I stayed here with 3 of my best friends after having High Tea at this gorgeous and historic property. The high tea was perfection. It is still decorated with the breathtaking holiday decor. Our high tea was supreme. Little tea sandwiches, scones, pastries, lemon curd, cream, lovely teas and champagne with berries on top. The staff (Mariella was our wonderful server) was so attentive and our teapots, food plates, champagne glasses were always replenished right on que. There is a wonderful pianist named John Kite that played all of our requests and it was the perfect soft backdrop. Later in the evening, we went over to the Ship's Tavern for a light dinner and had a fantastic server named Michael. Again, he was so attentive and knowledgeable. We shared some tasty fish and chips, crab cakes, french onion soup, clam chowder and a chopped wedge blue cheese salad. Our rooms were on the "top of the Brown". Very comfortable with coffee service, robes, nice television, beautiful soaking tub and a separate glass shower. and the beds....oh my...SO comfortable! I think this is what heaven must be like. We are a group of women in our 60's and this was the perfect "slumber party". Dawa happily took pics of us together with all of our phones. From check in to check out we were treated extremely well. It is a 130 year old hotel that has such a rich history. The staff stives to provide an excellent experience and they surely succeed. I stayed here for the first time about 2 years ago. This will always be my go to place for a very special occasion and to make beautiful memories!…
We went for the high tea and spent the night. The tea and all treats were amazing, so delicious! The atmosphere is so magical and still had Christmas decorations which added to it. I love all the history in Brown Palace, so much to see. Every single person I interacted with working here was so great, sweet, accommodating, helpful - they all went out above. The room was very beautiful all the way around and the beds super comfy!
The Browne Palace Hotel In August 1964, the Beatles were the first rock band to have a concert at Red Rock. They had a confidential reservation at this hotel. However, their reservation leaked and 5,000 screaming females were in this hotel waiting for them. Traffic was stuck for hours. The hotel gained its fame from this.
Historic luxury is an accurate description, as luxury is history, having not visited this hotel in decades. Our suite was is dire need of maintenance & repair; cracked & peeling paint, missing vanity doors with exposed plumbing, exposed wiring, worn woodwork, a broken door, nonworking reading lights, nonfunctioning shower heads, & loose carpeting that is coming up from the floor. Elevators are filthy, one even having old, dark liquid splashed all about the ceiling. Ship Tavern is filthy; food on the floor, food & drink stained table & chair legs, air vents covered in .5" of thick dust bunnies, cobwebs, etc ... Food, though beautifully cooked, was served luke warm. Churchill's has a miserable selection of cigars; I have greater selection in my home humidor. And no proper ventilation system. For a cigar connoisseur to be choked out attest to the thickness of the smoky haze in the room. One glance at the menu confirms that management also knows nothing about whiskey. The spa men's locker room has peeling wall paper & a steam room which can't be operated by customers; you must ask staff to turn it on, a bit of a problem for female staff who are hesitant to enter a men's locker room. The website says nothing about a Sunday brunch buffet, which is what we desired. We drove 30 minutes away to enjoy a wonderful brunch buffet & upon our return saw that the hotel offered what appeared to be an elegant brunch buffet. I suppose management, in it's incompetence, prefers we spend our money elsewhere. The only luxury about the Brown Palace is the staff; friendly, attentive, & professional in all ways. The failures sit squarely on management & ownership. Management is clearly incompetent; willfully blind to the great many deficiencies at this hotel. Marriot is ignoring everything that needs to be done to make this a decent hotel & is light-years away from restoring it to luxury status. What a shame, because this really could be a magnificent hotel & guest truly could be awash in elegance.…
I am not sure what happened to this place. Prices have stayed up and the quality has fallen dramatically. From our dingy room with broken fixtures, a dirty mirror, falling draperies, and no hot water; to the *ill-conceived placement of the cigar bar off the lobby so you can have plenty of smoke with your afternoon tea, to the ruined Ships’s Tavern where you can now enjoy your $48 prime rib with pounding music and sports on screens everywhere, this place is a mess. It is heart breaking if you visited this hotel when it was nice. BTW, we did contact the staff about the hot water situation and someone came promptly. Staff got warm water from tap and announced the problem was fixed but shower was still cold. Avoid for now.
