I’ve stayed at Kimpton hotels all over the world this year — London, Bangkok, DC, Denver, etc. The thing that I love is the commitment to quality — I know what I’m getting with the Kimpton experience. My wife and I, unfortunately, experienced a disturbance at Hotel Born due to other guests that were blaring music between 2-330am, but Kimpton management was efficient and thoughtful in engaging us to ensure we continued to experience the Kimpton quality that we love and keep coming back for. We're excited to check out their Miami and Tokyo locations next!
We loved the location, only 20 minutes from the airport and close to so many places we wanted to visit. Within walking distance of Union Station and other restaurants. The hotel also had a lively bar; and what looked like a nice restaurant. We ate elsewhere but came back in for dessert late night which was delicious. The room was super comfortable, beautifully decorated, and We would love to stay there again the next time we are in town!
Stay away. Service ranges from pleasant to awful. It's truly a shame because the location is fantastic and the hotel itself is beautiful. We stayed 2 nights with the AmEx Fine Hotels program (includes breakfast). Have never had such a disappointing experience in the past with other hotels in this program. Have also stayed at several different Kimpton locations and had fantastic experiences. But here at the Born, the front desk staff and 2 managers (Hannah & Paulina) were not service-oriented. Upon check-in, they didn't have my IHG status. They didn't explain the full AmEx benefits (as usually happens at other hotels) or general hotel amenities. We were not informed prior to arrival that the kitchen had experienced a fire and was closed. When we indicated that our stay included breakfast, we were instructed to eat breakfast out on our own and bring receipts back for reimbursement. There was inconsistency amongst the front desk staff about this process because we got different conflicting instructions each time, but no reimbursement. Still waiting...for reimbursement. This should have been settled upon check-out. We were unable to use the AmEx program's $100 resort credit, again because the kitchen was closed. The only other place to use the credit was valet parking, and we didn't have a car. Cleaning staff did not service our room during our stay, nor were we informed of any policy regarding reduced housekeeping . We were not asked "how was your stay?" upon check-out, presumably because they knew what the answer would be. This hotel should not be part of the AmEx program as it doesn't meet basic service standards. I realize many places are short-staffed and over-worked, and a few have even experienced major malfunctions like a kitchen fire. But I believe that the management should at least make an attempt to mitigate such misfortunes, which they certainly did not.…
We took the Amtrak train to Denver, arriving around 7 or 8 PM at Union Station. It was a few days before Christmas and the temperatures were very low due to the cold front moving through. Originally, we planned to stay further south in Denver but I cancelled a couple days prior and booked at the Kimpton Born due to location. I was a bit surprised to read a number of negative reviews. This was not our experience. We were happy to be close to the train station, especially at night and with very cold temperatures. Check in was pleasant. We requested a coffee maker be brought to the room and it was delivered within 15 minutes. The room was perfect. We were tired from the long train trip and the beds were great. The sheets must have a high thread count (according to my spouse); very nice indeed. Lots of comfortable and new appearing pillows. It is my general experience that hotels and motels hang on to their pillows way too long. The Born's were not of this low quality. Like a previous reviewer, I didn't care for the "amenity charge" which covered things of no use to us (museum entry, etc). I am of the mind set that hotels should simply set their price and avoid the add-ons (like resort fees), which are really a way to get more of your money for nothing. I guess the Born is doing the same thing but in our case, with this trip, it was not an issue with me. I am not a fan of dog friendly hotels and there were a couple of very large dogs in the entry when we arrived, but they didn't bother us and we requested a room where no pets had been allowed. Guess we will never know but my spouses allergies did not suggest that a pet had been in the room (we requested and received a high floor). The hotel was very quiet. The room was clean, including the bathroom. Overall, it gets high marks from me. Thank you.…
Despite its good location near the Union Station and its modern boutique room style, this hotel did not offer anything extra for loyalty members. As an IHG Diamond, no status recognition or any upgrade was offered at check-in. Also, no breakfast as a welcome amenity even though the check-in app mentioned it as a benefit. IHG customer care told me a day after check-out that breakfast should be included, so it seemed like a specific issue with this hotel! The room was comfortable but there was no in-room coffee or complimentary water bottle. The Wi-Fi was below average at around 7Mbps. I got two $10 bar credits which I used for a snicker and a beef jerky from the mini-bar. I was told you can use them at the hotel restaurant bar too. There was a happy hour at 5pm in the hotel lobby. It was a nice touch but the lobby was small and it can get crowded to find a seat. Recommend checking out the awesome daily happy hours at Sunday Vinyl, Tavernetta, or Avelina nearby!…
We stayed with American Express under the Fine Hotels program. We enjoyed everything about our stay. We arrived early on a cold and wet day. The front desk graciously allowed us an early check-in. They also offered a late checkout, although we did not use that benefit. The room was lovely, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom and large shower were perfect. The only thing that could be improved upon would be the addition of a floor length mirror. The reception area is warm and cozy and was welcoming for morning coffee and the afternoon social hour. Housekeeping staff was friendly and provided great service. The location is optimal--just behind Union Station. We highly recommend this hotel and plan to stay there again.
Lovely room and bathroom, with great shower. Very comfortable bed. Public areas very smart, but shame no restaurant, and therefore no breakfast. There is, in the same complex, a place that does brunch which we used once (disappointing). Very quiet despite being in a busy area and very effective AC. Surrounded by good restaurants within very short walk. But lots of small faults. Very poor lighting in bedroom - several very small lights but overall ineffective. We had clean bath towels every day, but the maid never took the old ones away - the was a pile of 6 in the bathroom when we left. $53 a day for valet parking is extortionate, and there are several cheaper places quite nearby. There is also a $23 daily Guest Amenity charge, for which there are several discounts given, but pretty irrelevant unless you want to make use of those facilities like the gym or a local museum (we didn't). Laundry was poor and expensive - one jumper I put in for Dry Cleaning was ruined, and even now a month later still smells of DC fluid.…
We were given a room with large, unsightly stains on the carpet (see photo), and the front desk said there was nothing they could do. I requested help from a manager, but heard nothing for our entire stay. No comps, no apologies. This is not at all the level of hospitality and cleanliness I would expect from this level of hotel. Very disappointing experience that soured our weekend.
Lovely decor, welcoming staff, perfect lobby for gathering and socializing, large room with beautiful bathroom, excellent restaurant in Citizen Rail. We stayed three days for a wedding that was hosted in the hotel. A perfect location in Denver!
I am usually a stressed out wedding vendor on delivery days, especially to downtown Denver when I need to leave my vehicle idling so I can load flowers in and out when parking situations are a bit difficult/nonexistent. The valet team comprised of Matt + Ty (the managers), and Jillian and Henry, made my job an absolute breeze. They let me keep my vehicle close, and even turned it on when I needed to run cold air for the flowers while I was loading in and out. They made sure I always had a cart to help transport heavy boxes, and they even helped my empty my car, truly an all hands on deck and very helpful experience. I have never, and I mean never, experienced service this incredible from a valet team. They cut my amount of work in half and saved me so much time. I could only dream that every downtown experience is this great! Thank you, Kimpton Born Valet Team! - Kelly…
