You know it’s a bad sign when the receptionist HANGS UP on you! So just FYI, the “free shuttle” doesn’t start until 5pm (our flight came in at 4). Receptionist snarky and not the least bit apologetic or pleasant. Room just okay. Internet lousy, kept dropping signal. No decent restaurant in walking distance. Look, there are plenty of hotels to choose from so consider yourself warned. They should want your business.

Kindly note that our shuttle schedule has been modified due to the limited number of flights to/from SFO during non-peak hours in the wake of the pandemic. Again, we are one of only a few hotels that still provide this service. Most SFO hotels have discontinued the service. Your comments about the location and our WIFI service have been duly noted. We generally have a strong WIFI signal, so there must have been an issue on this particular occasion. Please know that we will be contacting our network provider to ensure that this was just a one-off incident. Also, our central location means we are minutes from San Francisco's world-famous attractions. Plus, you can always reach out to our on-site staff for local recommendations on things to see and do. I first stayed at this property in March 2019 and had a very good experience for the two nights I was there and wrote an appropriate review. I suggest reading that now to get a sense of this hotel in normal times. In COVID times, things are only marginally different, but there are some issues that exist now that are not COVID related at all. The free airport shuttle (free except for the very aggressive drivers refusing to hand over your luggage until you've tipped them) is not running in COVID times. There is the local bus 292 that runs from the airport to within about 100 metres of the property and back again that only costs $2.25. Otherwise, you'll need an Uber or Taxi. The hotel is still very well maintained and looks good, but the small spa pool is closed and the exercise room very limited in capacity. Masks must be worn at all times, but some guests ignored this completely and were not told by staff to put them on. Breakfast is still included in the rate, but it's fairly pitiful. Toast or bagels are the only hot items and come with a small pot of jam, peanut butter & cream cheese. A choice of three cereals, boiled eggs and yogurt are the only other options. No tea, just coffee and juice. They do still put coffee in the rooms for a Kuerig machine. Housekeeping is still daily and operates as normal, unless you request it less often. Something no other hotel in the area is offering, so that's a huge bonus. I did find some nasty hairs gripping the towels, but otherwise, the rooms are still clean and the linens fresh. The WIFI is terrible. When the hotel gets busy in the evening, you can forget about getting access. It's impossible to log on and keep logged in. Every few seconds, you'll lose connection. It's not too bad during the day. Ironically, the McDonalds next door has a stronger signal and if you're on that side of the property, you can connect to them for free. The hotel really needs to fix this. The big issue is that the property is now charging at $7 per day "hospitality fee". When I questioned this - as was another guest checking out at the same time - I was told it was a mandatory tax imposed by San Mateo county. It's not. The county tax is listed separately. The rather irritated desk clerk then insisted that all hotels in the area have to charge it. They don't. No other property does and I've stayed at several for work recently. Indeed, I moved on to another Holiday Inn in the same county but much further south and they informed me there is no such county tax and they didn't know any Holiday Inn that was charging it. A hospitality fee for what? Ultimately, I have to conclude they're actually charging you for the "free breakfast". Not sure that's worth $7. They certainly aren't providing WIFI for the fee. The WIFI is hopeless. Still a good property and the rates are very competitive at the moment. I paid far less than my visit two years ago, but the fee is very annoying.

Dear guest, We would like to thank you for your return stay and agree that COVID-19 has severely limited our operations and amenities. Our shuttle service is running during peak airport drop-off and arrival times between the hours of 5AM and 10PM. This is a COVID modified schedule since traffic at the airport has declined significantly. Our competing hotels have simply dropped their shuttle service altogether. The spa is closed until we get approval from the San Mate County Health Department that we can re-open. The health department also placed restrictions on our breakfast buffet; however, unlike other hotels that are simply distributing grab-and-go bags with limited and cold items, we have worked with the health department to come up with a breakfast offering that is both safe and contains many more items than our competitors. We will investigate your WIFI complaint; however, since most guests are sheltering in their rooms, we have noticed that the volume of streaming has increased by a factor of ten since guests are sheltering in their room as opposed to being out and about in San Francisco. Lastly, our hotel rates have decreased by more than fifty percent as we are trying to offer our guests a huge discount to come and stay with us again; however, the fee that you referenced is necessary for us to retain staff, retain amenities, and offer amenities that our competitors have simply dropped in order to reduce costs. Regardless, we are sure that you will agree that the fee is a small fraction of the discounts that we are currently running until the world returns to normal. Stayed one night to catch an early flight out. Check-in took forever as the hotel has very archaic check-in protocols. The front desk person was slow and not very interested in attending to guests. This property is on the north side of SFO, but not very close (one highway exit away). The cab ride does take about 8-10min, so plan accordingly. Shuttle service starts at 5:10am these days, so if you have an early flight out at 6:00am, you will have to take a cab. Uber will cost you about $16, but surge pricing sent the price soaring to $50 for me. Fortunately, I could find a Lyft ride for $18. This property is clean, but dated. It desperately needs an upgrade. The in-room HVAC system was old (the window mounted unit with attached control panel) and emitted a strong smell when I turned the heat on. Luckily I did not need the heat.
