The house is well located and closed to the main downtown area and the Huntington Library and Garden. The house was very clean and we were greeted by the owner of the house and shown different areas where we can relax and stay. We only stayed for one night. The fixtures seem ve

Thank you! The house was built in 1887 and is a historic property. We agree that some of the charm is that some of the features are the original fixtures in a lot of the bathrooms. For your next stay and for any guests reading this review, please note that the hot faucet is the one on the left and the cold one is the one on the right with one exception due to plumber error, but it is labeled in that room. We have our phone numbers posted for anyone needing assistance with any aspect of their stay. We are more than happy to assist.

I was just at the Bissell House for a quick overnight stay before attending a conference. It had been recommended to me by a friend. Keep in mind this is a bed and breakfast, and for me reminiscent of those I have stayed in Europe. Don't expect a hotel like atmosphere, but you

Wow - this was such a great experience. The place is owned by the founders of Bissell Vacuums. House was built in the 1880 and is very quaint. Has a pool with a great are to sunbathe. The surrounding grounds are so peaceful. Albert Einstein used to visit here and have dinner her

Thank you for this lovely review. Although the house has passed through many hands since it was originally built in 1887, the current owners are not related to the Bissell family. The daughter of America's first woman CEO, Anna Bissell occupied it the house from approximately 1902 until 1958. Since then it has been owned by several large families, including ours. It has operated as a Bed and Breakfast for the past 23.5 years as of the writing of this response. Please come again!

I am really surprised at all the negative reviews here, because it was totally the opposite for us. So much to talk about....where to begin?........

The setting is gorgeous with lots of vegetation and trees. We heard lots of parrots calling each other and loving all the trees

Thank you!!! We are grateful for the time you took to post this lovely review. Especially, given the contrast to the recent negative reviews you refer to, one of which the reviewer wrote us a separate letter privately, seeking compensation in exchange for removal of her negative review. A reviewer who didn't even stay with us I might add. We are thankful that you chose to stay with us and appreciate your detailed comments here for the benefit of the viewing public. We hope you have an opportunity for a return visit if you are ever in the area again.

I don't understand why my recent review is pending! All the careful travellers should know about the true negative things I experienced at The Bissell House!
Exactly, I totally agree with you! The travelers should know not only true negative things, but also false positive comments. Unfortunately, I am not English native speaker, it could be some positive comments are written by the owner herself. So, I can imagine how much busy she is on PC, everyday. No time to cook something for guests. No time for guest’s comfortabolity. No time to look back her attitude, no chance to improve.
"Larger Rooms are nice- we did the garden room."
"The Garden room is well named....great bed, great furnishings, great bathroom - very tranquil at a lot of levels."
"Wouldn’t bother frankly"
"Not at all. Famous hotel would be better than Bissell house"
"The Morning Glory room on the third floor had a wonderful a/c unit which you could program. The bed was divine."
