To start with the positives, this historic building has a great history, the new-ish owner is very nice and my bed was actually quite comfortable. With a significant amount of work, this historic hotel could be a real gem, but until then, I would not recommend staying here. Each of my 4 pillow cases were stained terribly - on both sides. One side looked like it had tire treads on it. There is no way that the person making the bed could have missed all the stains. There was not a clean side to rest my head at the end of a long travel day. The bathroom in my room was FREEZING. It was in the 40's at night and it may have been an outhouse - it was that cold. That plastic film that you attach to the window and use a hairdryer to shrink would've been a simple and cheap investment to help keep at least some of the cold air from streaming in from the shut and locked bathroom window. The shower curtain had torn through the hooks in 4 or so places, leaving it obviously gaping in several areas. A new cheap white shower curtain would have made the bathroom look much more presentable. In addition, the walls were paper thing and you could hear people's conversations in adjacent rooms quite clearly. The area where they hold breakfast was also extremely cold. One nearby guest had to request a whole new set of sheets, as the ones on the bed were very dirty. The water pressure in that bathroom was so low that barely a trickle came out - impossible to wash and rinse hair. Another party insisted on having a different room, as their original room was in very poor condition. Another issue is stairs - there are many steep stairs from the parking area, down to one level and then more stairs to get up or down to the rooms. Would be very hard to manage for guests with mobility issues and also not ideal for lugging baggage up and down. Although the owner was very nice, this is not a property I would recommend to anyone unless major improvements were made.

This hotel is from the 1850's, so nothing new should be expected. The room was nice, the beds were comfortable, but everything could use a deep cleaning - especially the bathroom tub/shower. The TV remote worked only part of the time and the instructions for turning on the TV/Cable didn't work. Only 1 out of the 3 window blinds could be adjusted and I had to stand on a chair to adjust the air conditioner. The clock time was incorrect and refused to be reset so I unplugged it. Our first day's breakfast was not up to par - the muffins/pastries were stale and the egg dish was barely warm. The second day was better with fresher pastries. I would not recommend staying in a room on the street - it's on a main highway. The traffic noise starts early (5:00 am) and is pretty constant until after the commute. There was a nice pool but it was not heated and a faint sign read "pool closed".

We were very impressed with the hotel and the proprietors being so accommodating. We were on a motorcycle with a small trailer pulling behind it. We were going to be there two nights and wanted to leave the trailer locked in a safe place the days we were going to be riding. They made sure our bike and trailer were in a safe place that wasn’t visible from the street. The room was really nice BUT the only comment we would make is the bathroom faucet leaks really bad and got worse the second night; we did tell the proprietor the next morning. We neglected to mention the vent in the bathroom is open and needs to be repaired. Breakfast the first morning was really very good and seemed to be homemade. We slept well the first night and we had a room that faced the street and didn’t seem to notice much street noise. The second night we woke up on a Monday morning to a lot of traffic noise staring about 4:30-5:00ish. We usually turn on the fan to help keep the noise level down but forgot. When we went to breakfast that Monday morning (which was supposed to be at 7:30 and we were meeting our group at 8:00 with bikes fueled and breakfast done), there was nothing available except for coffee and juice and some muffins finally about 7:45. We had to grab something and go. That was a bit disappointing to us. It was all very good but not very timely. Our suggestion would be to make the breakfast time a little earlier like maybe a 7:00 start for those travelers that need to get on the road. Now having said all that, we are not trying to be critical; just trying to provide some feedback that might help. Would we stay there again if in the area: DEFINITELY!!!

We had stayed at the Gunn House several years ago enjoyed all the antiques, collectibles and history. The Manager, Gary, was friendly and helpful. We loved our room in back facing the pool. (quiet with wicker chairs outside for reading/thinking/pondering_. The quiche at breakfast was also a treat. The only thing we missed was a coffee maker in the room, but City Regulations apparently will not allow due to fire hazards given age of building. Maybe putting one large coffee maker and fridge outside dinning area could solve this minor problem. Definitely a unique place.

I stayed at Gunn House Hotel for four nights in August 2022. The hotel is a historical gem built in 1850, appointed in solid wood furniture and comfy beds. The staff are exceptionally nice and accommodating. The owner Gary was kind and leant me a charging brick for my phone. The breakfast in the morning is served in a lovely dining room, which appears to have been a saloon back in the day. I wouldn’t hesitate to return next time I am back in the area.

There were nice things about this hotel. It is well located within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The outside areas are pleasant, especially the nicely landscaped pool area. But the bottom line is that it doesn’t meet even minimal standards of cleanliness. In the corner under the bathroom vanity we found a clearly dirty towel, there were splashes of previous tenants toiletries on the counter, and when we turned down the sheets at bedtime, we found multiple strands of someone else’s hair. Of course we won’t stay here again.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Gunn House Hotel. The hotel itself is a two story adobe structure built during the time of the California Gold Rush and has plenty of nineteenth century charm. Gary, who was manning the front desk when I checked in, is very proud of the inn and of Sonora in general and it shows. Even though I was about an hour and a half late from the time I said I would check in, it didn't phase him in the slightest. He was also very helpful in letting me know of the various places around town where I could have dinner. The man who ran the Continental Breakfast the next morning (I think his name was R.K.) was great. I told him how gorgeous I thought the hotel and the town was (I had done a little sight seeing the night before) and he beamed with pride and gratitude. They're very proud of the hotel (as they should be) and the town. Such a great hotel, a great little town, and a great experience!

There is no doubt this place use to embrace it's guest in the past. There is some lasting charm of the previous owners. The current staff/owners are very kind but the facility needs major TLC. Several of the outdoor lights do not work, tile in our bathroom is cracked and the porch is leaning (uncertain if it is safe to stand on) and that is just a small list of repairs needed. Cleanliness is questionable. When we arrived they raved about their breakfast but the breakfast casserole was subpar and not fully cooked. The rest of breakfast consisted of funfetti cake, strawberry cake, carrot cake and cold corn muffins. Along with cereal, breads and diluted orange juice. No refrigerator or access to microwaves but this was not advertised. Pool was nice but we had to scoop out leaves and bugs to get in. This place has so much potential but it really needs to renovated badly. If you are just looking for a place to rest your head and don't care about the ameneties and breakfast it will suffice. Otherwise I suggest staying elsewhere until some care is put into the property.

DO NOT STAY HERE! If I could give 0 stars I would! They charged me $250 for a room with a full size bed and a roll away bed which I had to pay an extra $35 for. The most ridiculous thing is that the hotel manager had me and my friend follow him around the property to find a roll away bed for 10 minutes with no avail. When the roll away bed was found WE the guests had to carry the bed to our room ourselves. This is completely unheard of to charge people extra money for a roll away and have the guests carry it to the room. To make matters worse the manager didn't provide us sheets or blankets to cover the roll away until being asked 3 times. We then had to set up the roll away bed ourselves while the manager simply stood there and watched and didn't offer a hand. Not only was the experience with the roll away bed horrible, but the room was even worse! The carpet was covered in this sticky and glossy substance and the cabinets were filled with trash, dirt and dust. Clearly hadn't been cleaned in months if not years. The restroom had a horrendously loud fan and the tiles above the shower were molding. The walls all around the room were also marked up with the paint chipping off. Finally, breakfast was promised at 7:30am the next day and that was the one thing we thought they couldn't screw up. Of course they managed to screw that up as well as when we arrived at 7:45am for breakfast we were told we had to wait another 15 minutes which we didn't have. The only reason we stayed at the place was because we just needed a place to crash for the night on New Years and other hotels were all fully booked and we didn't want to have to sleep in the car. Although after our stay it was probably a better option to sleep in the car and save $250.

Hi We always respect our valuable guest and do our best to accommodate them.We have to follow our hotel policies, rules and regulations to run our business which we feel proud. During our investigation,we found you were so disrespectful to our property and our valuable staff those did their best to accommodate you, even they gave you power extension for your car to charge. We found you smoked in the room while you had kids with you as well.We could charge you $200 cleaning fee.We already reported to booking.com as well about the whole incident, hopefully you will be not that disrespectful to someone else property.
