We picked the hotel carmel as it was in a prime location in santa Monica. We were aware that it was the lower end of the price scale so were not expecting luxury. It was in a brilliant location, close to all the lovely shops and restaurants. I think for the money we paid we got what we expected. The...

Budget hotel, looking a bit tired. Bit of confusion over our rooms and we ended up sharing a very small two bedroom, three bed suite with our two adult children. rooms were small and backed onto the air conditioning pipework so there was a constant hum which really didn't bother us, but not very pretty to look at. A bit...

Thank you for staying with us here at Hotel Carmel. We appreciate the feedback about our hotel and your mention of our really good location. I do believe we upgraded you to a larger two bedroom suite that better accommodated your needs than two of our individual guestrooms. I guess I'm not sure if that was discussed with you at...

Firstly I should make mention of the very friendly staff and the excellent location. On arrival we were favourably impressed by both but that was the end of the positives. We were told the lift was out of order for one day only. Despite this we were allocated a room on the 4th floor, which we changed to the 2nd...

The location is great and gives you access to all the delights of Santa Monica and LA. Walking distance to both the pier and the Main Street in Santa Monica. The hotel did have a slight smell of damp but service was really good. Breakfast, simple yet more than enough. The location sells it for me!

Great staff- super accommodating and friendly. Beds were comfy but street noise is evident so bring earplugs. Ate at some great restaurants within walking distance, went to a Farmer's Market and also had fun shopping!

No room to swing a cat! Had to stack our suitcases on top of each other so we wouldn't trip! However.......clean and fantastic location. Not sure if there were any better hotels in the area as centrally located...needs a lot of modernising!

We stayed 3 nights & although it's not the most modern hotel we had a great stay. I really wanted to get the feel for Santa Monica as I was apartment hunting and this couldn't have worked out better! It was halfway between the pier and the promenade shopping area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was on the smaller size but had everything we needed. Surprise complimentary breakfast - basic but good. Shopping and restaurants are plentiful. One block from Santa Monica peir so you have it all nearby. A lot of homelessness and people with mental health issues around but they seemed harmless. Would stay again.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
