The hotel is apparently undergoing renovation, which it needs! My girlfriend and I both got ocean views but the rooms were shabby. The carpet and wallpaper were old and out dated. There was no ramp from the front desk to the elevators so we had to carry our suitcases up the stairs. There was a constant hammering and when I...

We recently stayed at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows rather then Oceana Santa Monica. My decision was motivated by an automatic upgrade offered to me by my credit card. It turn out to be a mistake. The hotel itself is very nice but very crowded, our original upgraded room was the size of large closet (at least overlooking the...

We used the bungalow meeting room for a two day conference. The atmosphere was fabulous. This was nothing like the usual hotel meeting room. The Fairmont went to great lengths to create something very special. I highly recommend it.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Miramar. The location is excellent - a close walk to downtown restaurants and shopping, and right across the street from the beach. The Miramar staff was fantastic - everyone from the front desk, concierge, restaurant and housekeeping were polite, efficient and incredibly friendly! We booked through Amex FHR and were upgraded to a...

The service at this hotel was unsurpassed. Every request was met in an extremely timely basis. Location was fantastic. On the pricey side for sure, but we got our 4th night free through a promotion. We stayed in the one-bedroom suite, on the Palasides tower. Room was nice, quiet. Wasn't thrilled with the sleeper sofa (it was noisy and thin)...

Stayed here on our last night during our So-Cal vacation tour. Driving through the gates to the hotel makes you feel like you are entering a drive way to a resort in Hawaii or the Bahamas. Beautiful décor that defines what an upscale hotel next to the beach should look like, modern but relaxed. Our room was spacious with a...

We booked our stay through Magellan online when I explained what we wanted and how we tended to stay at Loews in Santa Monica when we went, they recommended Fairmont as a classy and luxurious place to stay. I looked them up online and was a bit concerned because of noise complaints because of the very hip "bungalow" bar etc......

I stayed for one night at the Fairmont recently, and felt there was a bit of a mismatch between the quality of the facilities / communal areas like the lobby (which were overall pretty good, I especially liked the open-air gym overlooking the pool area) and the rooms (which were very average, and definitely overpriced). I had stayed at Hotel...

I booked through Get-a-Room, this hotel in particular because they had a "king deluxe ocean view" available. I paid almost 500, for which I could have stayed at any of several 4 star hotels in the area. I picked this one for the view. When I arrived, I was told there was no ocean view room available. They upgraded me...

we arrived after a long flight and the staff were helpful in dealing with our booking quickly and then we were shown to our room overlooking the swimming pool. Unfortunately the weather was bad and cold on our 3 day stay so we were unable to use it. Hotel is in a good location and concierge is helpful. The downside...

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
