We were not sure what to expect at Villa Maria del Mar. Our stay was tied to a conference here. Although the building is old, it is absolutely immaculate! The facility is run by an order of Catholic nuns. The kitchen has lay-staff who do a fantastic job with their three-meals-a-day buffet, that uses local sustainable suppliers. Of course expect...

As stated elsewhere, there is no religious requirement or participation although there is a small church next to the accommodations. There were stairs that go down to an uncrowded section of beach. There is a main...

This is a wonderful catholic retreat center. Very old. Creaky halls and uneven floors, but the view is to die for. Some of the rooms are ocean view. The annex even has some ocean view. Plenty of beautiful walking areas and access to the beach. Also close to a multitude of California sightseeing.
