A Victorian treasure in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, the Upham Hotel is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Santa Barbara, Southern California. Constructed of redwood with sweeping verandas, the 50-room 1871 landmark is surrounded by an acre of gardens and combines the intimacy of a bed and breakfast with the convenience of a full-service hotel and conference facility.

This is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. Breakfast (so many goodies and even a bowl of marmalade!) was delicious, next to the fireplace or in the sun room. Wine and snacks in the late afternoon in the beautiful courtyard garden. Cookies at night next to the fire.

Staff at the front desk are extremely helpful. We arrived by car but walked everywhere once we got to the Upham. Maps, public transport info etc all available from staff.

Do these allow pets?
I do not know although my guess is that they do not allow pets. Best to call the hotel itself.

"Our room, in the main building, was airy, a good bed, and sun streaming in the windows."
"Ask for a room on the courtyard side. If you do not mind stairs, the 2nd floor is best in case you have a heavy walker overhead."
"don't stay here until they remodel and refurnish the rooms and train their cleaning staff"
"Get one of the garden rooms."
"We stayed in the main building but there are numerous other buildings on the property"
