The room was clean but dated. It had an unpleasant smell as many beachside hotels do. The nearby restaurant the Cavalier was mediocre. The beach access was great. There was sitting available by fires. It was a great place to end the day and watch the sunset.

Stopped here for the night on the way up the PCH. Room and motel is clean and simple with all you need for the location. Best thing about this place is the proximity to the elephant seals (10 mins) and at sunset they light fire pits where you can sit and watch the sunset and meet fellow travellers and maybe...

We stayed in the handicapped accessible room on the first floor. The room was large and clean, huge bathroom, recently remodeled. Our room window was looking inside the indoor pool area, so not much of a view. Very quiet. You can walk around Best Western building and to the beach, great views of the ocean. We used $4 per person...

It was nice small hotel with every thing needed for one night stay. Unfortunately it was very windy and we could not enjoy walk on the beach. Room was clean and bed comfortable. They provided voucher for $4 discount in the next door hotel for breakfast or use it for the continental breakfast. Will use it again if needed.

Only thing town has to offer is proximity to Hearst Castle. No gas station, drug store, fast food. I'd suggest going 6 miles further south to Cambria. Charming town with many more options including galleries, antiques. The Sands does provide a campfire every night by the beach, which was a nice touch. Motel is adequate but no restaurants open if...

This is a basic, but totally fine hotel. It was clean and very close to the Hearst Castle. The hotel is right by the sea and there are some very cool fire pits you can sit by in the evening. The reception is closed for several hours during the day, but the hotel next door is willing to take your...

We were thrilled to find a motel that was reasonably priced in this part of California. It was very clean, but the view left something to be desired. The bathroom was so humid that the walls were wet after only one shower...and this was with the fan on and the window open. The breakfast vouchers for the restaurant next door...

We needed a good, overnight motel from which to visit the Elephant Seal rookery and also Hearst Castle... and we found an excellent solution in the Sands by the Sea Motel. It was clean, very quiet, peaceful, spacious... it had great, strong, hot water in the shower and an easy-to-operate shower faucet handle (both a must!)... and we were also...

Take your time as you drive down the Big Sur coast line between Carmel and San Simeon. Stop at vista points to snap photos of the stunning views. Visit the elephant seal colonies. The hotel is located in the little enclave of San Simeon, about 5 miles south of Hearst Castle, in a cluster of several basic motels and restaurants....

If you're in San Simeon to sit inside and watch the surf, this is the wrong place to do it... But if you're looking for a clean, comfortable, safe place to hit the sack before hitting the road (or the beach), the Sands By The Sea Motel fits the bill. Although this is not a Best Western, it is on...
