Nice location with shopping across the street. Check was a breeze and we were surprised when told we arrived during "happy hour" for the guests. There was fresh salad, sliders, meatballs with wine and beer. The rooms were very clean and quiet would definitely stay here again!
We just left after a very pleasant three-day stay in a double Queen room with a balcony. Many pluses including front desk, housekeeping, breakfast, pool, great location with easy freeway access. Rarely saw other customers except at breakfast.. We were able to park right under our third-story balcony. A nice shopping center is right across the street. The only possible negatives are that the rooms are a little crowded and the toilet is way too low. We will definitely come back.
We stopped here just for one night whilst on our Californian road trip. The room we had was really lovely, very quiet, spotlessly clean and really comfortable beds. Breakfast in the morning was a good selection to start you on your journey. Opposite the hotel was a shopping complex with food outlets so we just grabbed a takeout of fried chicken.
Great experience. Location is central to San Luis Obispo, all staff were very courteous and welcoming including the front desk reception and the breakfast staff. Clean room and good variety an breakfast. Nice hotel!
We picked this hotel last minute after a busy day of touring some of the old Spanish Missions. Despite being near 101, the hotel was quiet. There was a nice grocery in walking distance. We were given a room on the back which did have an outside "motel style" entrance rather than a hallway entrance like most of the hotel. The room did overlook the nice courtyard though. The breakfast room across the parking lot was large, and the food was slightly better than the typical continental fare.
After touring the coast, we especially enjoyed returning to the Royal Oak for the Happy Hour in the evening. Janelle was an exceptionally hospitable and friendly hostess offering not only local travel tips but our choice of drinks including beer and wine and delicious tacos and nachos. We enjoyed the full breakfast in the morning but the Happy Hour in the evening was the perfect way to end the day.
When Southwest Airlines cancelled our flight, we drove up to San Francisco and stopped at the Best Western Plus Royal Oak. What a pleasant surprise! The hotel was modern, clean and inviting. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious. Despite its convenient location near US 101, it was quiet. The Best Western Plus Royal Oak also serves an above average breakfast and their staff was great. Moral to the story: The next time Southwest cancels your flight to the Bay Area, you should stay at the Best Western Plus Royal Oak in San Luis Obispo.
I was visiting the area during the floods, and got unexpectedly evacuated in my pajamas from my first hotel near Avila Beach. I had nothing but my purse and my wet clothes after standing out in the rain for several hours. Looking for the first hotel with availability and that was not flooded, I found this Best Western. The check in clerk was so kind, and lent me a blanket while I was standing in line at check in shivering. The night clerk told me about the business center where I could use a computer since my laptop (and all my belongings) were still at my previous hotel. I was cheerfully given toothpaste, toothbrush, and razor. SO grateful in a crises to find this hotel. The rooms were very clean and the bed reasonably comfortable. The hotel has a nice new guest washer and dryer, so I could wash the few clothes I had and wear them again! Breakfast was plentiful and varied. The only cons were the housekeeping staff making a lot of noise rolling carts up and down the outside hallway and talking loudly very early in the morning. Also my room facing the back had a funky, odd entrance below the driveway level. However the other side of the room had a nice balcony facing the pool. Definitely recommend!…
The check-in was quick and friendly. The room was the cleanest I have been in for the last 12 months. The HOT water was very nice and impressive. The breakfast was wonderful with a large selection of items. All the staff was friendly and customer focused.
My wife and I stayed here recently and loved it. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, and the rate is fair. It's also in a good location: not in busy downtown but close enough to get to everything. And we appreciated that they allowed us to bring our rabbit, and because he is so timid, we kept the do not disturb sign on our door, which Housekeeping always respected. Oh, and they offer a nice complimentary breakfast, including some vegan options, which is great. Highly recommended.
