This beautiful property is a must-try if you're in the Central Coast. For years our friends have raved about this place, and I was happy to be able to book it, but after some pretty dismal reviews, unfortunately after it was too late to cancel without penalty, I was very fearful of what we'd find. Well, I don't know what those other reviewers expected, but our stay here was nearly perfect, despite the fact it rained the entire time. We did hear there was a completely new staff in the last few months, so perhaps what others complained about are no longer issues. The room (Trellis Court) was small, but certainly adequate and extremely clean. The bed was comfortable. The shower was nicely marbled with no wait for hot water. Every staff member we encountered was helpful, friendly, and willing to engage in conversation about the inn and the area. We didn't get to try the restaurant as it was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, the two days we were there, but I'm sure it's fine too. Nico and Jessica were especially nice and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We were greeted with sparkling cider and cookies upon check-in. We enjoyed warm spiced cider in the afternoon in the lobby. We don't drink, but they also offered wine in the afternoon. The cozy fireplace in our room was very welcome on the rainy days. We fully intend to return and stay in the main inn next time, as those rooms seem a bit more roomy and luxurious. But there was certainly nothing wrong with our Trellis Court room. …
This place has gone way downhill. It’s not charming or special anymore. The new owners have ruined it! No more extras, like the wooden apples, the guest books, the sparkling apple juice and the robes. The maid service sucked. We had to ask for towels three times. The carpet was so stained and dirty. I’m surprised they let guests stay in the room it was so bad. The restaurant and gift shop are closed during the week. The gift shop is now mostly wine and bare basics. It’s very sad that it has changed so much and not for the better! I won’t be staying there anymore. It was so empty and it looks deserted. You pay more and definitely get less! Madonna Inn down the road is completely open. All the gift shops and restaurants. Don’t waste your time or money staying here. You’ll just be disappointed!…
You will love it.Spacious rooms, comfortable bed ,clean great staff.Kameron the asst GM is top notch.Ask for any suggestions. Nice walk to downtown . The hotel serves excellent chocolate chip cookies. Make a left and walk in the historic neighborhood. Restaurant is good for breakfast. Try the Denver omelette .
I was a little worried that this hotel would be outdated but it is very cute and comfortable. The room was nice and spacious and very clean. The price was a little high for what you got but I would stay here again when passing through SLO. Wouldn’t suggest the Apple Farm Restaurant though, very basic diner food and very expensive.
We have been going to the apple farm inn for 18 years. Before Covid it had a charm all its own and we loved it. We stayed in August of 2021 and it wasn’t even close to being as it was . However , we stayed there recently and they are working hard to bring it back to a charming Inn. The staff was very helpful , kind and informative . They gave out chocolate chip cookies when we arrived and showed us where the wine reception wound be . The room had new mattresses and bed coverings and I know there are plans for further updates . They deserve a chance as they continue to work through the devastation from Covid as well as new management who now seems to want to listen to what we all miss from the “glory days”.
We stay at Apple Farm whenever we pass through SLO and have had good experiences. This time was quite disappointing. In the morning we woke up to water all over the floor. Apparently there was work done on the pipes in the bathroom and they broke. Suitcases, bags and slippers that were on the floor were soaked with sewage water. (Fortunately we didn’t wake up to use the restroom in the middle of the night or we could easily have slipped and gotten hurt.) I called the front desk and it went through to voicemail. No one returned my call. I kept calling and finally got through. Fortunately we were only staying one night so we threw all the wet things in plastic bags and left immediately. We were told we would be refunded for the room which we were. But because we booked it on hotels.com they didn’t refund us the full amount because of the fees when reserving. Unacceptable and really bad practice. Apple Farm should have done more to compensate. Also, when we arrived at the hotel and registered we saw people drinking wine and we were delighted that there was a happy hour. But it turned out that each guest was given a tiny pour and a ticket so they couldn’t have another. Next time we’ll stay at Madonna Inn or downtown.…
Really cute property with a lot of charm. Conveniently close to Hwy 101. Rooms are a good size but a bit noisy on the 1st floor. Staff was really friendly and breakfast in the restaurant was delicious. And who doesn’t love free wine each night!
We booked our stay at the Apple Farm Inn based on overall reviews, which were mostly positive, but in retrospect we should have paid attention to the most recent reviews which were not as positive as prior ones. It seems a change in ownership/management since the onset of the pandemic has impacted the inn is several ways. The room we stayed in the main in was clean, but the furnishings and fixtures were dated and worn. The mattress was older and uncomfortable, the rugs, while clean, were showing signs of severe age. One of the upholstered chairs was just plain dirty. The "resort's" restaurant was closed during our stay, but the pool and hot tub spa were open and were well heated for February. For some unexplained reason, despite paying for our stay in advance, we were charged over $200 after we checked out. A call to the resort did initiate a refund, but I was left without an appropriate explanation of why it happened in the first place.…
Prefacing this by saying that the cleaning staff at this place is still awesome and I wish them nothing but the best, I just want to complain about the owners and management of this place because it's really mind-blowing what they've done to it. My family and I have been staying at this hotel every year, sometimes multiple times a year, for literally 33 years now. I think the first time we ate at the restaurant was probably 1989 and the first time we started staying at the hotel was 1990. So, since I was like 13 years old. This place is our second home at this point. And even we, some of Apple Farm's longest and most loyal customers, are finally giving up on it. I need to first start off by saying that I am floored that so many people are complaining *specifically* about one particular woman at the front desk (she was a total jerk to us too in November!), and yet she's still employed there. She is the main villain of several recent bad reviews here and yet apparently AF is fine keeping her as the face of their "hospitality" services. My recollection is that the hotel changed ownership for the first time in a good number of years in ~2020 several months into the pandemic ... maybe early '21 at the latest. The guy James who used to always book our rooms left (was laid off?) and told us what was up at the time. At first, I thought the new owners were just lazy and uncaring about maintaining the brand. But at this point I'm convinced that they are actually trying to tank the Apple Farm brand reputation and hotel quality on purpose. Like kamikaze pilots on a mission. Why? I dunno, maybe so they can just do the bare minimum and blend in with all the other blah motels on Monterey St. and still rake in decent cash. The pandemic was initially responsible for a lot of the amenities / extra little nice touches of the hotel going away, but the new owners decided to make those cuts permanent and then went several steps further - They now stock the rooms with only the cheapest soaps and shampoos, they no longer put the little baskets of cider and chocolates in there, they never put back any of the furniture in the hallways, they even took the little nightlights out of the bathrooms?? Like what lol ... OH and they took away the two tables with umbrella covers for shade at the pool!? Like why would you do that!! I think the nice pool towels are gone now too. And worse, they are not maintaining the place - paint is chipped, I see some mildew in corners, a weird smell on the first floor the entire time we were there in November, OH and yes as I've seen in several other recent reviews, no hot water in the shower half the time! And the icing on the cake - the first person you're greeted with now is a very disgruntled crank at the front desk. I feel really bad for the cleaning staff at this place because they are still amazing and super sweet, but I really hope for their sake that these new owners either get their shiz together or they sell the place to someone who cares enough to lift a finger to restore the hotel's reputation and quality. At least there are plenty of other hotels in SLO for this staff to jump to if AF really tanks.…
Rooms are tiny, the shower was weak, the front desk supervisor needs to find a new line of work and is rude. ****They charge a $25 resort fee for motel rooms!!!! **** I went to the front desk to ask see other rooms as I wanted to return often but wanted to see which room to book as their website is not helpful. The attendant was rude. Luckily there are plenty of great choices in SLO. Amazing how one employee can turn you off to the point where you spend your money elsewhere. A real shame as we come to SLO ten times a year.
