Wonderful intimate hotel. Stayed in deluxe room on 2nd floor which was great. Small but adequate bathroom. Easy to walk to several great nearby restaurants (BL Brasserie was our favorite), and easy access to the wonderful wineries in the region.
We liked our stay at the Hotel Cheval but it wasn't worth the price. While it isn't surprising they'd raise their rates at the Christmas holiday ($465/night -- ouch), we had no maid service but for one night. We had to restock with offerings from the front desk (Dasani water, not the imported Welsh water we had in the room), a few Nespresso packets, tea etc. And since most restaurants were serving only take-out during the pandemic, our trash mounted. We were able to leave it outside the front door where someone took it away eventually. I expected more for the price. The place was virtually empty so we felt properly distanced. The pluses: wonderful fires in the courtyard, a nice breakfast included in the price which was brought to the room (since it wasn't possible to dine-in), destination charging for the EV, a great location off the square, in-room gas fireplace, comfy bed, cordial staff. Negatives, other than the high price and lack of maid service: breakfast came with disposable forks/knives (for the price you'd think they could provide real forks and knives), the menu didn't change at all (they could consider serving a different baked good each day and/or providing some other variation) and the freshly baked croissant isn't very good. The view is primarily of their courtyard which is nicely decorated over the Christmas holiday but otherwise not remarkable. They should consider giving customers a lower rate for this pared-down experience during the pandemic.…
The Stables in is also linked to this property. My wife and I have been trying different places each time we stay and were lucky enough to find this little gem! It’s an Motel style property but done VERY well! Rooms are small but “enough” for what we were looking for as we spend most of our time in Paso on the go. They do a good job with water, coffee and tea in their attached room for guests and the staff was great. This is not a “valet” and Spa place but if your looking for a great bed to lay your head on and a nice walk to downtown this is your place. And it was affordable!
TripAdvisor did it again! We “found” Hotel Cheval here and arranged a weekend getaway with dear friends from SoCal. What a find!! Every aspect of this little treasure is wonderful...the beautifully appointed rooms, fabulous breakfast, wine by the outdoor fireplaces and even S’mores in the evenings! We even walked to dinner both evenings. Love Paso Robles!! We WILL be back!
We were absolutely blown away by every single, solitary detail of our stay at Hotel Cheval. I cannot recommend this property and its staff enough!! Everything from the service, to our room, the s'mores by the fire, outside courtyards.... absolutely exquisite! We cannot wait to come back and highly recommended this property to all of our family and friends who are traveling this year especially during Covid times. We are so impressed and cannot wait to come back and stay longer! Above and beyond - thank you Hotel Cheval and all staff!!
