This is an old building furnished with antiques rather than a modern hotel. The entrance is on Ash around the corner from California. Enter the door, walk up a flight of stairs, follow the signs to the "front" desk. If it is not staffed, ring the bell or call their phone number. A nice, informal young lady should appear quickly....

This a basic, no-frills accommodation in downtown Palo Alto that is convenient to the Stanford campus. The facility is showing its age but is basically clean and sound. We found the shower to be laughably small - one could not turn around without hitting the shower control and thus adjusting the water temperature. The shower head was below 6 ft...

We stayed at the Hotel California for the weekend of Stanford graduation. I found the hotel online and was disheartened by some of the older reviews, so I called and spoke with the manager, who is brand new. We had a delightful conversation--resulting in our coming there to stay. Our expectations were realistic: we found a very small, friendly, clean...

I stayed qt this hotel for a week while visiting my daughter at Stanford. The rooms are each individual and pleasant and clean. The kitchen is like a home kitchen and is available all day, from 6 or 7 am to 10pm. The rooms are all on the second floor and surround a shared sunny courtyard with chairs, tables and...

Albeit clean, this is more of a hostel than a hotel. Rooms and decor are 'early thrift shop', lighting may or may not work, and the electrical code is questionable (extension cords and outlet multipliers are used generously). If you arrive after 5:00p you will see your key and instructions will be taped to the office window. There is a...

Although old and quite spartan, with small rooms, it is Ok for a short stay close to SU. There is wifi It is within walking distance to SU (internal transport) and to Caltrain. A few restaurants and other services also close. It is not located downtown Palo Alto.

Stayed here for business in Menlo Park. This was very much an economy trip and as a result the chosen motel was also very much a no frills place. I'm calling Hotel California a motel because that's what I feel it is. There are maybe 20 rooms all on the first floor with no lift so be prepared to carry...

I stayed two nights in this hotel during a business trip to Palo Alto. The hotel is located in a quiet position, about 30 minutes walking from the center of the Stanford campus and very close to the California station of CalTrain. My room was clean, although the whole style was a bit too close to that of an old...

The hotel itself is nice enough for the price, quirky though dated fixtures and bedding, located very close the the CALtrain. However I stayed for a two nights in mid-October 2013 and woke up on the second night of my stay to find my pillows crawling with bedbugs (both on top and inside the covers). Checking online for other complaints...

My room was infested with bed bugs (room 115). If you plan to stay in this hotel, do a thorough inspection of the room before you enter. Check out the bed bug registry website for any updates or additional reports (bedbugregistry.com).
