As the saying goes: "... you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear".. but this is an excellent try and a welcome relief from the frenzy of Reunion Week at Stanford University. Here, right now, on this Planet, is a sensible and reasonable base for business and pleasure. I believe we were put in the "Broom Closet"...

I've stayed at the Country Inn a couple of times a year for the past several years, and have never been disappointed. The managers are always friendly and helpful, and the accomodations are a bargain for the Palo Alto area: clean rooms, comfortable beds and attractive grounds. Plus, a convenient location. Highly recommended!

After much research into finding a decent hotel in the area that was not ridiculously over-priced, I stumbled across this little gem. You won't find this hotel on expedia, travelocity, etc. The booking is through the website, or via telephone, and the rates are flat rates. $105 for one night in a king room was a bargain! The rooms and...

This was a great motel! Our family stayed for 5 days, so we got to know the staff and the grounds really well. They were nice, sweet, and happy! The grounds were beautiful...there are beautiful trees, and the pool was well-lit at night, giving the place a really quiet and calm feeling. The room was clean, and the bathrooms were...

This was our second stay at the Country Inn. Our first stay was excellent so we decided to book again on this trip. Unfortuanately our room was one of the few that lacked airconditioning. It was equipped with a box fan and it was extemely hot and stuffy. We went to the desk to inquire about changing our room and...

I loved this place. Extremely inexpensive. Immaculate and modern rooms. Loved the motel style, comfortable beds, beautiful tiled shower. The pool area was beautiful! gate access and towels waiting on the side.

This Mountain View motel has a few things going for it--very low price, four miles or less from Stanford, brand new carpet and very nice new furniture (in our room). But be forewarned: NO A.C. in many of the rooms--and plenty of El Camino traffice noise because you have to leave the windows open. The rooms do not cool off...

I booked this motel directly, it costs $110+tax for a 2 double bed, and $120+tax for a queen bed with sitting area. This was my only stay in a non-franchised place in recent years, but the experience was one of the best. Clean rooms and higher end bathroom, which far exceeds 2-star motel standard. The location was great with easy...

Because we have regular medical appointments. at Stanford Clinic, we often find ourselves staying overnight in Palo Alto before driving home to Monterey. One day we stopped and checked out all the motels on El Camino from Stanford to San Antonio Blvd. (motel row). Country Inn had them all beat for value received - very nice atmosphere, comfort, cleanliness, safety...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Palo Alto Country Inn was built in 1954 along the El Camino Real, the main thoroughfare of that time. Shaded by large trees and surrounded by orchards, travelers would stay here when visiting Stanford University or the city of San Francisco. Founded by Italian immigrants, the Cesano family took care to provide excellent service, and clean, well-maintained rooms for their guests. Many became good friends as they made the Country Inn their home away from home. Today, the inn lies at the heart of a busy Silicon Valley. Destinations such as Google, Yahoo, Apple, Stanford and many Bay Area attractions are within easy reach. Although the surroundings may have changed, the Cesano children and grandchildren have carried on the traditions of providing an affordable and comfortable place to stay. The staff and the accommodations continue to earn the trust of returning clientele and the rave reviews of new visitors. Some special features of the Country Inn are the lovely garden patio that greets you as you arrive, the pool area with available barbeques and ample patio furniture, rooms with kitchens, free wi-fi, and consistently friendly service. At the Country Inn you will find all of the modern conveniences as well as enjoy the warmth and welcome of a quaint inn of days gone by. Please consider us as your hosts on your next trip to the San Francisco Bay Area. ... more   less
